Just returned from a brilliant week at the Solimar Emerald with 3 friends. Our flight out from Gatwick was cancelled last minute so we had to book another for the following day. I rung the hotel to explain and Maria and Adrianna were very helpful and understanding. The change in flights meant we arrived a day late and didn’t get to the hotel until 1am, they had taken the time to make sure we had a lovely plate of cold meats and cheeses waiting for each of us along with beers and juices! VERY much appreciated after a long days travelling. The hotel itself was a nice mix of families, couples or like us a group of friends, very nice and chilled out during the day. Zara the entertainer guy did a good job of getting everyone together during the day for water aerobics which was fun. We paid a little extra for a suite and was very impressed with the rooms which were large and cleaned very well every day. The food was very nice with a good amount of choices for each meal and there was some nice restaurants within walking distance if you did fancy breaking things up a bit. A taxi into town cost no more than 15E and whoever was on the front desk would always order one for us if we fancied a night out. All in all we had an awesome week at the Solimar Emirald and I’d like to thank Gloria, Adrianna and Maria for making us feel very welcomed and looked after, these guys never stop smiling even tho they are working hard!!

There are many ways to describe the Solimar Emerald and it’s staff, but excellent is the only word I can use. While a little way from the hustle and bustle of other local resorts, this smaller hotel (but with loads of space and facilities) provided the peaceful location we wanted. With only 29 rooms, the hotel never feels busy or noisy. With most of the rooms being towards the back of the property rooms are quiet. With all of this said, the hotel is only a short walk to shops and a range of tavernas, some on the beautiful beach if you want them, although like us, most people were taking advantage of the all-inclusive board.

The choice of food within the buffet was good for both children and adults, and the all-inclusive bar included a full range of soft and alcoholic beverages.

While at the hotel we booked tours to Rethymno, only about 15 minutes away… the old town was a rabbit warren of beautiful narrow streets, with a plethora of bars, shops and restaurants. We also took the Knossos and Heraklion Museum…. both amazing. The only trip we weren’t happy about was the day trip to Santorini… lovely in theory but the ferry each way was just over the hours, so a lot of your day is travelling. While we loved seeing the amazing white buildings on Oia, I’m not sure it was worth 175 euros each!

This was a fantastic trip to Solimar Emerald… we loved staying here, not least because the hotel is great, but the staff are what makes this place special… really special! Thank you to all of them… I’m not going to name them all because each one always made us feel welcome and made every day brighter! Thank you to you all.

Just got back from an amazing week here with my boyfriend. Solimar Emerald is a small, family run hotel which means it is quite quiet and relaxed. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, we were given a welcome cocktail on arrival. Our room was clean and spacious overlooking the pool, which itself was large and well looked after - and there was no morning rush for sun beds. We chose to stay all inclusive - the food was tasty, varied and fresh and there was a large variety of drinks, including cocktails were very good. There is entertainment on every night which is lively and fun, and although it is mostly aimed at the French guests it was inclusive for everyone. The hotel is a short walk (5 mins) to the strip of shops, tavernas, bars and the beach. We also got the bus into Rethymnon (bus stop is opposite the hotel) which only took 10/15 minutes, so the hotel is in a great location. I would really recommend staying at this hotel, we had a brilliant week.

Perfect! We stayed with a 7 month old and 9 year old for one night as our flights were changed.

The staff are amazing! So friendly and nothing is too much trouble for them. They all go above and beyond for you.

The room was very spacious, lovely and clean, we arrived to a complimentary fruit basket and bottle of wine (much appreciated). There was a travel cot, tea and coffee facilities and large bottles of water in the fridge!

We stayed all inclusive, the food is nice and lots of variety. Plenty of options for the children! The cakes were delicious especially the tiramisu. Every meal time the staff had set us a table with a baby high chair ready which is just a little thought but makes it so much easier for us. Excellent cocktail menu!
We was late down for breakfast as baby slept in but Georgia came over to us and made sure we had a hot fresh breakfast (perfect eggs!).

Check out is at 11am but we was aloud to stay around the pool and bar and still have drinks and food within the all inclusive!! Which was lucky because we didn’t realise our little boy had left his Nintendo game and the cleaners returned it to us! Thank you so much!

The pools are extremely clean! You can hire pool towels at the reception. And there is a small park for the younger children.

We just wanted to say thank you for having us and being so friendly and helpful. Especially Georgia for always making sure we had everything we needed and Andriaua for a very warm welcome.

We loved this hotel where stayed with our three primary school-aged kids. The hotel is at the edge of Rethymno, away from the busy streets but close enough to walk to plenty of tavernas and beaches. There is also a bus service which stops just outside the hotel.

Because the hotel is small, the staff are able to give a personalised service and are so friendly. It also means the pool is quiet and there are plenty of sun loungers to go around. We found it super relaxing as we could see our children in the pool at all times without having to be in there with them.

The restaurant had a good selection at each meal - we enjoyed everything we ate and the kids could always find something to suit them. The food was fairly authentic Greek with some familiar favourites too. The drinks were fine, we liked the wine. You pay extra for familiar brands of spirits.

Our room had plenty space and a balcony overlooking the sea. The rooms all have some seats outside so you can put your kids to bed and still sit outside and enjoy the entertainment which happened by the poolside.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to families looking for a quieter resort.

We stayed in this hotel for 11 days, we found it on lastminute.com, and it was a really fair price for all the services included. The personnel is really nice and available for any request and solve any problems. The beach isn’t right in front of the hotel, but by just walking for 10 minutes you can find great beaches that you can rent for a very low price. The restaurant offers a great choice of foods, ranging from greek typical food to pasta. The pool is big and 1,70 meters deep, along with another smaller pool that is for kids. The wifi works in the whole hotel, rooms included and it is pretty fast. Rooms are good, we got the 203, which had 2 twin size beds and one queen size. The entertainment for kids especially is really professional and fun, but it’s not too invasive if you don’t care about that stuff.
The position of this hotel is not the best, but there is a bus stop right in front of the structure, which takes you to Rethymno with a 1,20 euro bus ticket. (purchasable at the nearest mini markets).

Normally, when we travel, we stay in large All Inclusive hotels..... This time we are in a smaller, indeed quite bijou, hotel near Rethymon in Crete. We picked up a fantastic 5 night deal, just as a getaway from the Covid-19 world we live in.

I must say that the hotel, and staff, are awesome. We arrived in the middle of the night to find that check-in was open and even had plated some food for us which was MOST welcome. Our room is spacious, has everything we need and even a sea view. There is a large pool and all the normal extras like games room

The food is Cretan and both plentiful and very very tasty, a mixture of great Mediterranean fare and really good meats. The bar has the usual local drinks on their All Inclusive list, with the option to purchase premium brands should you wish. The evening entertainment has been of a very high quality.

All in all, what a great little find this place is.

Mixed opinion.
The hotel is rather old but functional, it lacks maintenance.
This hotel has around thirty rooms and this is undoubtedly the most positive point of the season. Not many people, family spirit, it’s very relaxing.
The rooms are cleaned every day and the linen will not be changed all week, the same goes for the towels.
Entertainment is non-existent during the day, so it’s perfect for relaxing.
The only host, named Zara alias Raki, is friendly, helpful, a simple man and very sunny, he made us have a very good stay and especially with his joie de vivre every evening.
The buffet is small but the food is very good.
The geography of the hotel is in the right place for exploring West Crete on an excursion! However, don't expect a private beach in front of the hotel, it's a nudist page and that may come as a surprise! You have to walk 50m to the left to avoid accidents ;)
Warning: The excursions offered by the hotel are very expensive and I advise you to walk 300 to 400m to the left when leaving the hotel to find agencies that are much friendlier, more serious and less expensive.
In short: nice hotel for rest and well located for excursions. However, in proportion to the price paid (~500 p/p) for the week it remains more than correct.

Our experience in this hotel exceeded my expectations. The staff were extremely friendly and made us welcomed throughout our stay. Georgia the manager,Maria the receptionist were so helpful and kind. Our room was spacious and we are 100% happy with the cleanliness of the room and the hotel in general. They provided a variety of fresh local foods and the catering staff looked after us very well. What i found good is also the meal times,eg. Breakfast from 7:30-10:45 🙂
The hotel itself has a good location and a great atmosphere.

We went to Solimar Emerald for 5 days in May. Arriving at the hotel, we were very kindly welcomed; all employees appreciate the hospitality and family feeling. The rooms may be a bit dated by Dutch standards, but in a typical Greek style, which really makes you feel like you're in Greece. Hygiene is of paramount importance. The first evening was a bit cold, but this was also immediately helpful by immediately bringing a blanket to our room. The food is very varied, there is something for everyone and there is also something different on the menu every day. We love delicious wine when it comes to eating, the tap wine was not our favorite, but of course there was also a solution: an arrangement of different wines. In the evenings, we sat with the other hotel guests, this is something Zara facilitated: talking about what everyone had experienced that day and ending with Raki and music together. We really appreciate the efforts of Zara (the entertainer), he is always happy and positive and listens to the wishes of the guests: if you want bingo, we'll do bingo, if you want a disco, we'll do disco. All in all, highly recommended to go on vacation to this hotel!
