I really enjoyed my time at the koggala beach hotel. Everything was so great and affordable. Special thanks to the front office manager gayan for your kind hospitality. Food was superb. The room had all amenities and I had an extremely relaxing stay. It is a beach front hotel. The welcome drink could be improved. Other than that everything was super nice.

This is our 2nd visit to this lovely hotel. All rooms have sea view. We had a room on 1st floor then changed to a terrace room for a change. The terrace room was really nice as there are sunbeds outside your door. Food was good especially the soup and Dall. If there any requests Chef gladly accommodated. Staff - absolutely wonderful. Always happy, polite and helpful. When my husband was attacked by sandflies staff brought in Aloe Vera from their home and the lifeguard applied Citron oil. Transport. The hotel is ideally placed for travelling on South Coast. We visited Mirrisa, Unawanatuna, Hikkaduwa, Gall by bus no 350 and 2. (100 rupees) Stop located outside hotel. Hikkaduwa and Galle can be visited by train. Timetable easily accessible on phone. Koggala Station turn right out if hotel. Approx 1/2 mile. Best by taking tuc tuc approx 300 rupees. At time of writing 400 rupees to British pound. Hotel situated on beautiful beach but high waves unsuitable for swimming, best beaches for swimming, Unawanatuna by bus approx 10 minutes. Snorkeling Hikkaduwa approx 45 minutes by bus or train. Exchange. Banks need your passport. Turn right, Approx 200 yards from hotel. We found best rates in Galle in Fort area. 15 mins by by bus or train. No bars or restaurants in immediate area. Best in Unawatuna and lovely beach bars.

At first sight this should have been a wonderful stay. We were booked here through our holiday company for 3 nights at the end of our Sri Lankan tour. The hotel is located on a busy road in between 2 towns on a stretch of golden sands, but essentially isolated. Walking through the entrance once we'd been 'wowed' by the view of the beach, we quickly realised how depressing it all felt. No colour/flowers - a fish pond with dirty green water - and then it became clear that although the beach is amazing, there are no hotel facilities whatsoever to allow guests to relax there - not an umbrella/sunbed in sight despite temperatures of 30 degrees .. just sand and sea and generally pretty deserted. The cabins are rather run down and there were broken things in the bedroom (toilet seat/no plugs in sink or bath) ; we also had to ask for a security box which was supposed to be supplied. The hotel has clearly suffered from the impact of Covid and obviously has lost its experienced staff, but it is surprising that knowing guests were coming in that more of an effort hadn't been made to spruce up the room beforehand. Unfortunately the buffet meal was the low point - despite the spread, not up to scratch and we struggled to find anything to eat. We were shown to a table in a dining room that felt more like a school canteen but there was no follow up and we weren't offered a drinks menu so it was just water for us. Had the hotel been closer to amenities we would have perhaps considered staying and using alternative restaurants (despite the added cost) but the thought of 3 days here to relax to round off what had been a fabulous holiday was not on the cards and we left the next day. The staff did their best and somehow managed to find 2 sun beds/umbrella to put outside our cabin the next day but sadly it was too little too late. It must be said that overall the staff were lovely making this a difficult decision but in the final analysis this was our first holiday for nearly 2 years and we were not going to spend any longer than necessary in such a place. This could have been a real paradise and we can only hope that changes are quickly made to ensure this is the experience guests have in future.

The Koggala beach hotel has a very friendly and helpful staff, with very good customer service right from the beginning when booking. We travelled as a family and it is an excellent hotel for kids the pool is quite large and the kids pool is a good add on. The variety of food was good and up to standard. The hotel is clean with very spacious rooms. The greatest asset is their large garden area and the clean beach.. I have never seen a cleaner, soft sand! The beach was completely empty on the day we visited.. A must visit!

I had stayed in this hotel for 7 days of quarantine period during pandemic. I've arrived from Doha and after a quite long bus ride we arrived at the hotel early morning. I was a bit disappointed since I received a 3 star hotel on the particular date of my arrival. Some how the staff made my stay very comfortable and happy. The view was amazing. I was missing the smell of the breeze of wonderful beaches of Sri Lanka for the past one year. So on the other hand I was glad that I got to stay in this hotel. Overall, I had enjoyed my stay and the food was delicious. I would never get bored with their menu. As a person who travels the world, I could say that this hotel has great team of staff. I would like to thank Mr. Manoj Priyanga for taking every step to give his best service towards the guests. And also I would like to thank Mr. Bishan as well. I can and I will recommend this wonderful beach hotel to my friends also. Thank you for your great service. All the best!!

I have stayed for 14-day quarantine. I enjoyed a lot and felt like a tourist. The ocean view from my room is wonderful. The foods are delicious and healthy. The staffs and Army are friendly, caring and peaceful. Importantly, the hotel adheres to the health guidelines. I'm very happy to recommend Koggala Beach Hotel to anybody.

We spent 3 weeks at this basic, good value hotel. The room was spacious and the sea view from the balcony was wonderful. The food was mainly Sri Lankan dishes, we especially liked the vegetable curries. We liked that we could get to Marissa and Unamatuna by tuk tuk or bus from outside the hotel. The beach is beautiful but the strong waves made swimming difficult at times. During the last week of our stay the country was put in lockdown because of Covid 19. The hotel managed the situation well and we felt safe. Mercury Holidays our travel company kept us updated and the airport transfer during curfew happened without a hitch. We definitely did not feel abandoned, but were grateful to get home.

Mercury Holidays, two weeks end of Feb 2020 - £1150 each paid for two weeks All Inclusive and a private transfer. A hotel run by (mostly) extremely happy and hardworking staff. Brilliant service for two weeks from maids to managers. 10/10. Our rooms was a little dated but kept spotlessly clean, a decent size with a big double bed. A large balcony overlooking the beach (room 630). Food was pretty good on the whole with lots of variety and traditional Sri Lankan cuisine. The food could have been hotter sometimes, but that's a normal problem with all inclusive. Plenty of sunbeds, smallish pool but there are beautiful beaches right on the doorstep. Sea is swimmable with caution and there is a lifeguard. This hotel is very quiet with some small wildlife and birds to see, no loud music, queues, boozy guests or crowded bars - perfect for us. It is located a mile or so from bars and restaurants, however a short Tuk Tuk ride is very cheap (agree price before you go). They wait outside the hotel. There is also a bus or train close by. All in all a thoroughly relaxing couple of weeks (with a few trips), recommended for those that like a quiet, reasonably priced hotel with beach access/walks.
