Regarding food, we didn’t like the local cafes, we went to Unawatuna for lunch (it’s not far, 10 minutes by bus, 100 rupees per person, walk, eat delicious food, swim), we ordered dinner from the beach boys on the beach - homemade food, very tasty. Beer We ordered from them - 550 rupees 0.65 bottle.
We went on a two-day excursion with beach boys (they hang out near the beach) - inexpensive, safe, very well organized. They go several times a week, seven tourists in a group, two guides, almost individual approach, a comfortable minibus.
About the hotel: of course, “hug and cry.” But for the location, you can forgive any shortcomings. I recommend staying in a villa if possible. The hotel has a very good pool - deep and clean, you can even swim at night, the staff is kind and helpful. Everything is very simple ,without pathos.
In general, if we accept that this is not a hotel in Turkey or Egypt, but a completely different concept of recreation. then everything is very good.

There are a lot of mosquitoes, they bite so hard that the bites still hurt. The hotel does not take any action (for example, install spirals or fumetoxins at the reception, because Wi-Fi is only there and you often have to sit in the evening).
Room cleaning is available upon request, but this request can hang on the door for up to 2 days (apparently when the cleaner has a day off).
Hot water appeared only after numerous requests from guests and repair work.
The plumbing leaves much to be desired; the tap may remain in your hand.
The lights are turned off periodically, either only in the hotel or in the entire village.
Pros:
Very beautiful, quiet beach and endless coastline
The villas (we paid extra to move out of the building) are located right on the shore.
If you choose a calm, quiet, measured vacation, then Kogalla is just the place for you. After sunset, silence, darkness and peace.
They provide a bottle of water per person every day.
In general, I do not recommend this hotel to any of my friends, simply because of the discomfort in everyday life.
The staff is very welcoming and friendly.

During my 10 days of vacation, I still couldn’t figure out where exactly the repairs were. The main building was completely uninhabited; sometimes workers met there.
The rooms are very old (the date on the key tag was 2012).
We were put into a room (#708) with acid-green walls and a toilet that someone had just used, but had not cleaned up after themselves. Let's go negotiate with the admin. After an hour of negotiations, they changed our room, supposedly renovating (#701). The only thing that was different from the previous one was that the walls were already white and the bathroom was a little cleaner. In the bathroom there is fungus on the tiles, old rickety furniture, and a lamp with a dim light hanging crookedly above the mirror. There is no safe, the room is locked with a regular interior lock. There was hot water once, although friends in the next room always had it. The air conditioning worked properly, in the bungalow, for example, there is none at all.
Soundproofing. Any movement in the common corridor echoed in the room. All sounds on the hotel grounds near the pool are also perfectly audible in the room.
A small pack of red dogs lives on the territory; they feel like masters here. They sleep wherever they want, very often on the floor right under the door. I have an incredibly sound sleep, but this piercing howl, squeaking, barking, woke me up several times a night.
Room cleaning and towel change upon request. Water 0.5 liters per person was brought daily. Hotel employees finish work at 10 pm and go home. If you need to resolve some issue, wait until the morning. There is only a guard at the gate on the premises at night.
Upon check-in, we were informed that all rooms were occupied, but we only met 3-4 families every day. There were no more people. The pool is always free, not a soul on the beach.
The bar restaurant was only open in the evenings. Prepared upon request. But I didn’t see anyone eating there.
Wi-Fi only works at the reception.
We are not one of those who hang out at the hotel during the day; we left early in the morning and arrived at night. But several times in cloudy weather we rested on the territory of neighboring Long Beach.

The hotel enjoys a scenic location close to the beach and nature, allowing you to enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka.
As guests of the hotel, we can note the courteous and sympathetic attitude of the staff who are always ready to help, the room was always bottled water.
The restaurant offers a varied menu with local and international dishes, allowing you to taste different cuisines.
Local beach boy Chathura offers stunning excursions to the town of Ella for $50 here is his room +94 71 190 4907, as well as a tuk-tuk for fruit.
If you need a cozy and relaxing atmosphere perfect for rest and recuperation, then you urgently need to go to Sri Lanka.

The area is clean, well-groomed, the pool is cleaned every day and the water in it is cleaner than in the neighboring Koggala Beach.
We only spent the night at the hotel, spent the evenings, and traveled a lot. We ate in different cafes and tried local food. Next to the left, right on the beach (if you stand with your back to the hotel and facing the ocean) there is a cafe - the food is very tasty, we periodically had breakfast and dinner there.
Don't expect entertainment or a working bar at the hotel.
We came to enjoy nature and the ocean and had a lot of fun doing it!

Everybody, this hotel.
There are separate bungalows with panaramic ocean windows.

The rooms are clean, bed linen and towels are changed every day🤩, you won’t find this even in the top five everywhere. There are small ants and termites, but they didn't bother us too much. The staff is responsive, the lighter got wet, they gave me matches without any problems. We didn’t have food, but in the restaurant they gave us glasses, straws and even cut fruit once. The room has a refrigerator, but no freezer (which was disappointing).
Very comfortable bed, just a delight. The room has air conditioning and a ceiling fan. There is a balcony, we had a view of the ocean😍. Crows flew in and chipmunks came, we fed everyone.
There is no adapter for the socket, buy it in advance.
The beach is the best on the entire coast, and we drove to Hikkaduwa and Matara.
I definitely recommend it.
Cons: there is always a tuk tuker on duty at the entrance and local barkers walk on the beach, they overwhelm you with their offers. You say you've been everywhere.
Koggala Lake is worth a trip, the real price for this trip is 2000 rupees per person, don’t settle for more.
