We just had a wonderful stay at Hotel Ullensvang. Fantastic hotel, great rooms, beautyful surroundings, excellent food and service-summed up briefly. We travelled with kids and there was a lot of activities to keep both children and grown ups entertained at all times, both inside and outdoors. I highly recomend this hotel to everyone, whether you travel with children or as a couple, business etc. You will never get bored as there are numerous possibilities both if you want an active vacation or prefer to relax. The amazing scenery alone is worth the visit. We will definately come back.

It’s unfortunate to say that our stay at this hotel got ruined by complete clueless and unproffesional staff. A party of 27 people were supposed to celebrate a 50 and 80’s birthday. Already during the dinner the discontent started. Getting served a bland main course would make Gordon Ramsey go head over heels in anger. They also forgot the dessert and we had to tell them outselves. Then we were supposed to have a private room where cake, coffee and some drinks were suppossed to be ready. This was completely forgotten and absolutely nothing was prepared. We had to wait for at least 30 minutes before anything happened. If you wanted something to drink you had to go to the only place that were open, namely the bar with one completely clueless person behind the counter. The hotel seemed quite fully booked, but still ONE person serving the whole lot. What a joke!!! It took ages before the absolutely incompetent «bartender» gave you service. After a while there came two more just equally incompetent bartenders. It was almost amusing to watch this complete disaster trying to do anything. This is all so sad as last visit was spectacular. But when you just want to earn money and hire untrained staff to manage such a beatiful hotel, it’s bound for disaster. The owner(s) should really take a good look at this problem and straighten things up.

Thank you for the thorough review from your stay with us. We appreciate that you’ve taken the time to tell us about your experience. Sorry to hear that we didn’t meet your expectations on this occasion, we always strive to do our best for all our guests, and we are truly sorry that we didn’t succeed this time. To answer your points; we are not clueless, but as everybody knows then the government decided to announce to open norway a friday afternoon, without considering the chaos it would creat in restaurants and bars that weekend, as it has been described in the news.,.; We display the evenings menu at reception every day, with a detailed list of ingredients, allergens and choices. We serve a mix of traditional norwegian food as well as some international-style dishes. We’re sorry that the dishes served were not to your liking, however we try to avoid over-seasoning our dishes, as it can result in unhappy punters on the other side of the palate. A quote from gordon ramsey comes to mind: “there’s enough garlic in here to kill every vampire in europe”. Now we do not believe in vampires, but just to be safe, we let our guests add any additional seasoning at their own behest, if the normal amount isn’t sufficient. It is very unfortunate that there was a slight misunderstanding on our end as to when you’d like the cake and coffee served, resulting in a 25 minute wait. We apologised to the group when we discovered the mishap and took the liberty to remove the coffee and cake charges from everybody bill, and the host of the party, did apreciate this and were apreciative and understanding to the situation. As mentioned, the norwegian government decided to lift covid-19 restrictions on friday, and this resulted in a much greater-than-expected turnout in our bar, and guest deciding to break our rules, including going swimming in the middle of the night.. As you will notice on trip advisor you find no other complains over the saturday bar service, and you find compliments over the food and service, and 5 star reviews. But on this saturday , then due to the governments decision, our bartender was caught off guard by the celebratory nature of our guests (next time pandemic-related restrictions are lifted, we will ensure that there is enough staff on hand). We are happy to hear that this wasn’t a permanent problem, and that the bar was sufficiently staffed eventually. We do not have any untrained staff, but as it is well know from the news medias, there is a shortage of trained professionals currently in the hospitality industry. We have actively been recruiting for all departments, but the response has been less than stellar, likle it is the case all over norway and in europe.. As an industry, we’ve struggled through covid-19 and lost a lot of good people to other sectors, meaning we have to rebuild departments from scratch. Of course, this isn’t something that should affect our guests, but as our options are to either to remain closed due to insufficiently staff, or to open and train new colleagues, we chose the latter, but on a day described by the police as busy as 17 mai and new years eve, with no chance to plan it, yes we were caught short (to plan new years in a hotel starts in august, and not the day before)) but luckyly almost all guest understood the situation brough upon us and took it with a smile. Of course, this is not an optimal situation, but we believe in learning by doing. We’re saddened by the absence of complaints whilst you were on site, in particular as the persons inviting you and paying for the group expressed their understanding , and appreciated our efforts to make good, where you instead decided to post on tripadvisor before reaching out to us directly. We’re not in the business of making excuses, but we would like to be given the chance to make things right when we make mistakes, rather than having to respond in writing online. We hope that the experience hasn’t put you off a return, but rather inspired you to do as gordon ramsey and return on a day where the government decided tha catch us and all others by surprise, to see if we have made improvements.

We had a beautiful room on the last floor with a nice balcony. The view was breathtaking. The pool area was beautiful. We even had a swim in the fjord. Breakfast was very good with lot of local foods and drinks. We would immediately go back to this hotel.

This is a very good hotel. The crooms areclean and most of the rooms have a good look at the fjord. The food are very good. We recommend breafast luch in the garden and dinner. We will come back to this hotel it is one of the best.

The hotell holds a high standard. But the restaurant has very blend dinners and the food is lacking it both taste and excitement. Prices for cider and drinks are heavily overpriced. But all in all a welcoming visit. Please do something about the dinner quality..
