Solstrand Hotel is a historical resort located right by the fjord on the west coast of Norway. We offer a spectacular view over the Norwegian fjords and mountains - at the same time our location is just 30 km from Bergen Airport Flesland and downtown Bergen. All 134 rooms have individual decor and charm. Our wellness area lets you unwind in hot therapy pools, swim a few laps in the pool, relax in the sauna or gaze at the stars in our outdoor pool. We recommend taking a fjord bath from our bathing pier - it is open all year! Our award winning SPA offers spa treatment that suits your needs - relaxing, revitalising or cleansing, for face and body. The food we serve is deeply rooted in coastal culture, and we offer Western Norwegian specialities as well as continental flavours. We are happy to serve our guests local fish and seafood. The meeting facilities have a capacity of up to 180 participants and is tailored to management and board meetings, seminars and major international events.

Detailed Reviews
This hotel gives you the feeling that you are living in 1896 , when it was built. A selection of old furniture, painting and antiques decorate the interior. Surrounding the hotel is the fjord and small paths lead you around the property. Our room had a balcony with a breathtaking view to the fjord. The hotel has a spa and you can swim in a heated pool from to the outdoors. Bathrobes and slippers were provided . We were served a three course meal of fish soup, salmon, and chocolate cake. The breakfast buffet consisted of a good selection of food.
The staff was incredible and helpful in every way. We were very impressed with Vibeke and Thomas who also assisted us with our need for a wheelchair. This was arranged and brought to our room . Thank you for being such wonderful people.

I experienced week at Solstrand Hotel and Spa which included an extended weekend stay. It was remarkable from the attentive service to the scrumptious meals to the simple accommodations to the location on the fjord to the spa and pool facilities. What I liked most? 1) Getting to know the owner who is hands on from serving food in the restaurant to speaking to guest to working the front desk. and 2) getting to know and be pampered by the staff from Andy who hails from Egypt to Christine to Miriam as well as Tom the sommelier (all in the dining room). They took great care of me as a single diner especially Andy who made sure my glass nor plate was ever empty when hungry as well as Tom for his expert choices for the glasses of wine paired with dinner. Wow! Would I return to stay at Solstrand? Yes, of course. Would I recommend it to others? Yes, of course. GO Team, GO!

I spent half a day visiting Solstrand Hotel to have a SPA treatment. I was also allowed to use the wellness area, which I did.
The wellness area was great, my favourite is the outside pool, which was enjoyably warm and I loved being in the sunshine and overlook the beautiful fjord.
Afterwards I got an aroma body massage in one of the many rooms in SPA area. It was amazing! Kristin was very proffessional, I felt completelly relaxed both physically and mentally. My skin was smoother than ever before after the treatment and I loved the aroma! You can actually choose the aroma yourself.
Before leaving the hotel, I strolled along the sea and in the park, which was a joy again. The place is so peaceful, the nature so beautiful, and the amenities are well taken care of.

Dear Jana, Thank you for sharing your experience at Tripadvisor. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed a day-spa experience here at Solstrand. Our mission is that such a visit should invite for a “change of pace” from our daily lives. Use of the wellness area is always included when you book a day-spa treatment. Day-spa guests are welcome Monday-Friday, all year around. A stroll in our park and along the shoreline walk, right by the sea, is a great way to start or end a day at Solstrand. Welcome back. Solstrand was absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. The staff was accommodating with big hearts and bigger smiles. My wife and I loved our stay. It was a nice break from the big city of Bergen. The bus drops you off very close to the hotel for an inexpensive ride into Bergen or from the airport. Would love to have stayed longer at Solstrand. Thank you for the amazing memories.

Dear Garrett B, Thank you so much for your review. We highly appreciate your kind words and the way you mention Solstrand as a peaceful break from the city of Bergen. In October a new road opened between Bergen and Solstrand, reducing the efficient travel time to around 22 minutes from both the city centre and from the airport. We hope to welcome you back to Solstrand. Kind regards, Pernille & Børrea Schau-Larsen Owners & General Manager

+1
I spent 3 nights and 4 days working with my son in Solstrand and it was simply fantastic! The combination of nature and the sophistication of the place was incredible! Super friendly staff and ready to help, including alternatives for children and adults with dietary restrictions, impeccable common areas, spacious rooms and the best part were obviously the heated and cold pools depending on each person's taste, overlooking the fjords!
Highly recommended
Clearly justifies the investment and costs of this place
I will definitely come back

If your trip to Norway includes Bergen I recommend you spend one night at this beautiful hotel about 30 minutes away from the city.
The architecture is beautiful, with lots of attention to detail. It complements the incredible views of the Fjord. There is a walking path right outside the door.
The pool areas are not to be missed. There are choices in pools and saunas including a warm outdoor pool looking out to the Fjord.
They did laundry for us the same day we arrived.
The only reason I gave the hotel a 4 instead of 5 is the limited menu in the dining room. We were told there was one choice for lunch and at dinner the menu offered one 3 course choice but it turned out there were 2 other options when we asked. I don’t think there are any other dining options within walking distance.
I would recommend to the hotel to consider upgrading their pillows and adding a coffee and tea station in the rooms if they want to provide a bit more comfort for their guests.

Dear DJRN, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the architecture, fjord views, and our various pool and sauna options. Your feedback regarding the dining menu is very valuable to us. Every evening we serve a three course menu based on seasonal fresh ingredients. For the starter there is two options, and for the main course there is one fish, one meat and one vegetarian/vegan option. The dessert is a selection of cheese, desserts, fruit and cakes. Thank you again for your thoughtful review. We hope to welcome you back in the future. Solstrand Hotel & Bad Pernille Schau-Larsen Owner & General Manager

Fantastic stay at Solstrand
Incredibly nice staff and top service. The rooms were great, and the food was delicious. The pools make Solstrand a very attractive place for family visits. We were a large family of 13 people aged 6 to 80, and the experience was great for both young and old. In advance, we had booked a separate room for dinner, and it was successful to that extent. After dinner, we were reserved a small living room where we could sit undisturbed. There was service from A to Z. The outdoor area around the hotel is indescribably beautiful, especially when the sun is shining.
Many thanks to Solstrand for an unforgettable experience 👏

Currently here, and it’s *thoroughly* disappointing. First, the spa/pools pictures, while nice, are entirely misleading re what this hotel generally is like. Those areas are nice; but the rest of this place is directly out of the Shining. The hotel had a squadron of children here today who turned the (allegedly very sleek) pools into a water park.
After dinner, someone dropped a glass and no one cleaned it up for an hour (despite staff acknowledging it) and everyone was simply walking through it.
Furniture is cheap and from the 1980s, very much including the bedrooms (and we have the supposedly great balcony room).
Don’t waste your time and money here.

Dear bbbbbb1234, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. We strive to provide a comfortable stay for all our guests, and it’s clear we fell short during your visit. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the children in the pool. We daily monitor the number of guests and children at the hotel. This to do our best to prevent it from being crowded or noisy at the pools and in the restaurant. However, please note that on the weekends we host family gatherings and celebrations as well as spa guests. There will always be some children in the hotel. We also regret the delay in addressing the broken glass, which is certainly not up to our standards. Please be assured that we will review this with our team to ensure it does not happen again. We appreciate your honest feedback as it helps us improve. We will do our best to provide you with a more pleasant experience, should you decide to visit us again. Kind regards, Solstrand Hotel & Bad Pernille Schau-Larsen Owner & General Manager

Stayed for 3 night with 5 other couples. The room was big with beautiful garden & fjord views. I found the spa treatments excellent - a 50 minute massage/facial and an 80 minute mud wrap/mineral bath. I prefer light pressure massage, so if you’re looking for deep pressure you might want to specify that ahead of time as others in the group were disappointed. Staff was generally pleasant & accommodating. Be aware that you need reservations for every meal. Food was good, not great. Pool/spa area was nice, but not huge, and there were lots of kids. There were no towels in the pool area, which we thought was odd. We had to bring bath towels, which are very thin and then of course you have fewer towels for the shower. There is no gift or sundry shop but you can walk into Os. As far as the room goes, the bed wasn’t super comfortable and the quality of the towels and toiletries was disappointing. I definitely expected more creature comforts. Overall, a relaxing retreat in a beautiful setting.

I travelled from London to Bergen to have a short break to unwind. The whole experience was amazing from beginning to end. I messaged their social media account to get directions from the airport to the hotel, and they were spot on. It was very straight forward getting there.
On arrival, the staff was polite, and helpful, and this remained consistent throughout my stay. The staff are very helpful, and cannot do enough.
The building is amazing, and it's like stepping back in history. They pay a lot of attention to detail. and it's very clean.
I have stayed in a number of spas, but the facilities here were amazing, and this is officially now my favourite spa hotel. The infinity pool is beautiful, and it's best at night, where you can see the lights in the town from afar.
Really cannot say enough good things - totally amazing, and I will be back this year.

If you plan to explore our region by car during your stay, we would recomend you to hire a car at the airport. But there are many things you can do at the hotel, and in our nearby surroundings, whitout having a rental car. We are looking forward to be welcoming you to Solstrand.
