I spent a week at Rustad leading up to the Birkebeiner race. The location on the Birkebeiner trail is fantastic. The town itself is nothing special; the main bar is only open on weekends. There is an austere bar/cafe near the sporting goods and grocery stores. But I came to ski. The breakfast was more than adequate and the hotel... More

It's the only game in town so slightly complacent and expensive for what you get. It's supposed to be the Rolls Royce of ski hotels but I found it a bit tired impersonal and not very friendly or comfortable. I would say if you are looking for an escape from it all with a warm welcome personal touch with people... More

Great place to try XC skiing. Fantastic selection of routes pretty much from the hotel. Everything you need is at the hotel (ski hire etc.,), the rooms are comfortable and the food was very good (announced by a charming gong every evening!). The staff were friendly and always ready to help. We will return.

What a lovely place this is, full of Norwegian mountain cosy charm. A warm welcome awaited us, our rooms were simple but comfy, and the public areas friendly and cosy. Delicious food, for every meal, special New Years dinner. Good efficient table service. It's great the the family owners eat meals with the guests, and make you feel like special... More

We went to xc ski and we got perfect trails right next to the hotel. The owner was delightful. She made sure we understood the speeches in Norwegian for their anniversary celebration. I think it was 70 years. The staff and the guests were very friendly. We had coffee in the lounges each night after dinner with one of the... More

Rustad is the perfect place to stay if you want to go cross country skiing! It's lovely situated next to hundreds of kilometres of well-prepared tracks. The hotel itself is nice and convenient, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The food in general is very nice (we didn't try the lunch), even though I missed eggs and bacon for... More

Our third trip to Sjusjoen for cross country skiing turned out to be our best! The accommodations and atmosphere of the Rustad supplied the needed respite at the end of many enjoyable days of skiing. The trails were superb and it was always a pleasure at the end of the day to return to the warm and friendly confines of... More

This is a lovely authentic hotel that has been in the same family for generations. The public areas consist of a rabbit warren of charming sitting rooms that have been added on over the years. There are a couple of fireplaces which are lovely. It is all just a bit tired, however, with extensive grey carpet tiles throughout. Wood floors... More

Our agent recommended this place and it was more than we anticipated, fantastic views across frozen lake, Like Narnia! We upgraded to lake view and balcony. Comfortable bed and room and lovely staff. The snow was deep and the sun shined. They have a fabulous buffet lunch and the evening meal is set 3 course but good. Breakfast is a... More
