Reviews Summary
This summary was created by AI, based on recent reviews.
Powered by AI
Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort has earned accolades for its attentive and friendly service, with guests often praising the staff's helpfulness and the management's quality, despite the occasional slow service reported. The resort's stylish atmosphere and comfortable ambiance are well-received, although environmental concerns in the vicinity have been noted. Its prime location is a highlight, offering easy access to the beach and local attractions, which enhances the relaxation experience for guests. However, the value for money has been questioned by many travelers, who feel the prices may be steep compared to the services provided. The amenities, including the well-regarded pools and comfortable rooms, generally receive positive feedback, but some guests have raised issues regarding beach cleanliness and room noise. Overall cleanliness is a strong point, with fresh rooms and well-kept facilities often mentioned.

We returned from this lovely resort after a 2 week stay in January, couldn’t fault it the staff were amazing couldn’t do enough for you . Breakfast was good plenty of choice, Rooms we’re lovely, cleaned every day and bed changed when requested. Lovely pool and bar area nicely situated right on the beach , the only downside is crossing the road from the hotel to the beach bar as the road is very busy, so Traffic guards are there to help cross you over. The staff were amazing, a special mention to barman Nate, who entertained us and made our holiday, Also a mention to Mui who was there most days and Art from reception who were very helpful and attentive after me turning my ankle on the first night! Location of hotel is about a 20 minute walk from main part of Lamai, taxis are easy to flag down but a nice stroll if you fancy walking!! Would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return one day!!

We absolutely loved our stay in this beautiful resort. It was a lovely little break away for myself and my boyfriend. We loved our room. We had a beautiful pool view from our balcony. The bed and pillows were just perfect 👌 we loved that there was so many different options at the buffet breakfast and the food was delicious! We loved the beach front pool and the restaurant did really good food. It was lovely to chill out on the sunbeds with a cocktail with a sea view. We loved the activities you could choose from, we did the Thai Muay Thai on the beach front and would highly recommend trying this one out 😀 Also loved the gym, it had cardio and weight machines so we could get a workout in. Theres a fire show on the beach every Friday and Saturday and you can’t miss this, it was brilliant! Overall we had a fantastic stay and we will definitely be back again, what a fabulous resort.

Thank you for the glowing review on your recent stay with us at Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort. It was an absolute pleasure to host you both. It was delightful to read that you enjoyed the views from your Superior Pool View Room. During our renovation last year, we purchased all new linen and towels to provide that cloud like sleep. Our activity schedule has a variety of activities including private Muay Thai classes with ex-Muay Thai champion Khun Pea. One can definitely stay active while holidaying with us! We can't wait to welcome you again when you are next travelling to Koh Samui. Until then, safe travels. Kindest Regards Leah Matters

Really lovely place. Beautifully maintained. Housekeeping girls did a great job. Beds very comfortable and air con worked very well in the heat. Breakfast choices great. If you can't find anything you like there is something wrong with you. We went on a luxury escapes package and there was no drop in standard because of that. The twin room was not available as requested but this was not Outriggers fault. Special mention to Karwee who seemed to be at every meal we were at. He offered suggestions and booked tables and always bought the cocktails at an amazing pace - specially when happy hour was finishing. My only critisism was that the price of the alcoholic beverages was very high. That didn't turn out to be too big a problem as we walked down the beach (or road depending on the tide) to the New Hut Restaurant & Bar. Drinks there were amazing. I would definitely return. The location is a small distance from the main part of Lamar but taxis there are cheap.

Of the best hotels i have had the pleasure to stay in. Hotel itself is well appointed, scrupulously clean and very well maintained. The beach part across the road (with animated crossing guards) was equally superb. Lovely pools, plenty of loungers and right on the beach. If you want to walk on the beach, turn right for a longer, better walk. Very, very good breakfast. Friendly helpful staff.

This is a middle aged viewpoint. We arrived after staying in good to high end hotels in Chaweng, Ko Pha Ngan and Bangkok. The only other reference points are a few hundred other hotels stayed at, largely in the pacific, predominantly Australia but also a small range in Europe, Africa, NZ, quite a few in SE Asia and finally, a visit to Thailand 20 years ago (Bangkok, Karon beach, Ko Phi Phi) We stayed for more than a week at Outrigger. Fortunately, this stay met and exceeded expectations. This review may be a bit long and the “TL;DR” version is it met or exceeded expectations. I hope to provide readers with fair observations below to help them make an informed decision. I knew of the Outrigger brand from a holiday in Fiji. We were told the management of the hotel changed hands in August 2023. You therefore can see reviews on tripadvisor in terms of this fact. There are few reviews after August 2023. The hotel itself is on one side of the road and on the other side is a picturesque series of pools and cabanas, a restaurant and a covered area adjacent to the restaurant, overlooking the beachside. Aesthetically, this hotel is very scenic and the design well thought out. The reception is off to the side in an area near the front so unless you intend to interact with it, you don’t have to. I liked this. The staff were faultless from beginning to end. There are 3 stories and we stayed on the second. It was perfectly quiet. The first visual impression walking into the room was it is feels like part of a nice residence, say in northern NSW or more fittingly Queensland, a little like the “Queenslander” style inside, with peaceful and calming arrangements. It put me at ease any time I was in the room. The bed was very comfortable. There were quality finishings evident, particularly the bathroom. Shower strength was reasonable. Cleaning was immaculate when we requested it done. The staff were unobtrusive. This was subtle and also a nice feature. It quietly added to the sense of holiday. Edgewater staff were laid book, friendly, looked cool and made the vibe - definitely relaxed poolside and brought a smile to my face. In fact this is where I think it excels. It was popular but not crowded at all. A nice thing to do there is laze by or in the pool. Full holiday zone. The food options we tried there were of a high to great standard generally. The only one which was a bit lower to me, but still nice, was the chicken cashew nut. This is probably being a little biased - I tried this about 10 times in Thailand and could not find one as good as the memorable Thai restaurants in Australia (sorry!) However, the other dishes we tried were excellent, eg the battered calamari snack was top tier and lot better than usual back home. We enjoyed the BBQ night on Saturday and the cocktails, making good use of the 2 for one happy hour from 1630-1830 (this makes them 7.50 AUD each). I also really enjoyed the ice cream. You could wonder if the restaurant would do better trade if some of the prices could have a reward based discount or ‘happy hour’ style enticement for the food. You do get a discount via GHA - this is 15%, but the problem is the price on the menu does not include some taxes, which add up to an additional 17%! There is an option to pay a large sum and get a decent discount but you are most probably not going to drop 500 (or more!) AUD unless staying for a long time here. As the restaurant was not that busy, I wonder if this issue should be re-evaluated creatively to bring in more business flow (and thus better trade overall) as it seems a bit of a barrier. In simple terms, I would probably have eaten there more often with a better deal for doing that, as it is high quality. There is a place to get massages, like a “massage island”, accessible from the beach cross an isthmus. I never went so can’t say more. You can also get a kayak from a kiosk on site at the beach. There is an 8 ball table, table tennis table at the main hotel, also a laser tag game for kids (at a cost). The breakfast on hotel grounds goes from 0630 and officially ends around 1030. I remember reading some reviews saying there wasn’t the biggest range or not 5 star. I can say there is a substantial range and more varied than some reviews suggest. The Thai/asian items did seem to change daily (this is over 8 breakfasts). The western options are much the same each day but extensive. This IS a greater range than your average Australian buffet breakfast at 4 star level. I remember a decent tropical fruit section, 3 types of bread to toast, a large selection of jams, various pastries, various cereals, a fridge cabinet with slices of meat and cheese, yoghurt and also fruit salad cups (the cheese types changed several times over my stay), scrambled eggs, an egg station where you can be served freshly cooked eggs and bacon, also buffet option for chicken sausage (‘vienna’ style), baked beans, hash browns or fried potato, sometimes mushroom/tomato, stir fried vegies (often with a delicious smoked flavour), a curry - eg penang, green or pad thai or other noodle dish, rice, sometimes fried rice and I think once pineapple fried rice. Sometimes small chinese style meat dumplings. There is some kind of congee I think, 3-4 juices and 2 or so other liquid options eg ice tea or lemongrass infused cold water. 3 coffee machines. This isn’t everything, just from memory. I say all this to counter the some reviews which seemed to not be satisfied. The only small downside was the fried potato or equivalent section - this is common in hotels that offer it. The problem is (I think) when the lid is down the potato starts steaming and this softens the crispy goodness. I’m not sure of the solution. The first day the hash browns were nice, hot and crispy, however. Downsides in the room (there are always one or two!) - the biggest : aircon was set at lowest to 19 degrees C. This is slightly higher than usual nighttime temperature at home, but is obviously lower than the 25 degrees in Thailand at night at this time of year. The temperature at night sometimes seemed to oscillate to a bit higher, feeling around 20 maybe around 5-8pm or so, even if very briefly (and subjectively) 21, given the humidity, but this may be inaccurate. I think minimum setting in a high grade facility should be 18 degrees C at night but I also can appreciate the economics. The AC type itself was a really nice one I am familiar with in good hotels (Honeywell) so that is not the issue - it looks like a business decision. That said, I slept well enough. Occasionally, I wondered if it might be best to sleep under a sheet but it never got to a must have stage. The other slight downside was the TV in the bedroom area kept turning itself on and there was nothing I could do. I tried pulling out the remote batteries and tried looking for a power cord but the TV seemed fixed in a frame. It was mostly around 5-8pm from memory and never at a late hour. I am not sure if the reason is a voice/sound activation trigger. That would be a bit creepy. There really is nothing much else to whine about, except maybe the “Mentalist” type magic show was currently unavailable (yes there is a magic show on site usually!) I’d also like to offer a counterpoint to the opinion expressed about the road crossing. There were 2 guys there every time we wanted to cross and they were super helpful to everyone. It was no problem to cross whatsoever. It’s just a few lanes on that street and although busy, I can’t see how anyone could get streesed about it unless you have a serious mobility issue, in which case, why are you coming to Thailand? I would not do such a thing to myself if it was me. About the area - there is a 7/11 almost next door and you can get supplies there, also includes alcoholic beverages. There are several local style restaurants nearby and then some alternative western ones as well. Of the local style, I quite liked “Jim Joom” off to the left towards the Tamarind hotel - not high end food but not bad for the $ - I think it was $18 AUD equivalent for 2 entrees, 2 mains and rice. Lamai beach, as said elsewhere is not much of a beach at high tide and not a fine beach by Australian standards, but this was not a must have for me and Outrigger had a better waterside vibe than the place I stayed at in Chaweng which was right on the beach in a nice part. The sunset colours can be really nice dappling over the water. The main drag of Lamai is about 15-20 minutes walk. The best and shorter pedestrian way I found is to walk the first bit on the road until you cross an area where there is a bit of a bridge over the water, then cut through on one of the walkways from the street to the beach. This isn’t that obvious from the road, so I suggest you look at your GPS if trying to do this. There is a restaurant we walked through - I think maybe called ‘New Hut’ but on the GPS it says this is on the beach. It has a road access as well. There are multicoloured lightbulbs on the entrance. If you decide that’s too confusing and stick to the road instead, you can get to the main Lamai street by turning at the small McDonalds arch. It’s not that pleasant - the beach method is better imo. You can always otherwise commute if you wish by song thaow or your own transport. Overall, the stay at Outrigger was truly a standout hotel in a series of good to great hotel experiences in Thailand and I loved it. It was my favourite (and there was another really great hotel in Bangkok I might also review!) One last word - there is fairly strange review elsewhere on tripadvisor about the clientele of this place being ‘newly rich’ stereotypes or something like that. In my experience, it was your typical couples by modern standards and some families, zero pretence and no antisocial or haughty behaviour. It just felt like everyone was having a relaxed time wherever they were and safe. Culturally, the mix leant towards continental European, as was my experience of Koh Samui tourism in general. Thanks to the staff for making us so welcome, being gracious hosts and I hope readers found these observations helpful.

Thank you very much for the detailed and indepth review regarding your 7 night holiday with us at Outrigger Koh Samui Beach Resort. It was a pleasure to read your positive yet objective review, allowing travelers the ability to choose the resort that is perfect for them especially given the abundance of options on the island. Thank you for recognising our Housekeeping team who are our superstars, working behind the scenes ensuring our resort and guest rooms are presented beautifully every day. I was also delighted to read that you enjoyed your dining experiences at Edgewater including our Seafood BBQ evenings and Happy Hour. Throughout Thailand, all international hotels, resorts and high end restaurants will add 10% for service charge and 7% VAT to the total bill. With this in mind, we introduced our "Dine Around Card" which allows guests the option to pre-purchase food and beverage credit to receive a % off the total bill. We have a number of tiers available starting from THB 5,000 (AUD 200), THB 10,000 (AUD 420) etc. We have three massage salas available at our Edgewater Beach Club from our licensed partner. Please note that the pop up massage beds on the small island across from the resort is not associated with the resort and nor it is a licensed practice. Please accept my sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused with the television intermittently turning off and on. I have taken the liberty of sharing with my Engineering Manager to investigate and rectify. I issue positive feedback directly to our staff, something very much appreciated by them in recognition of their efforts. I am very much looking forward in sharing your review with my team who are gracious hosts and deliver genuine Outrigger hospitality. Thank you for your recommendation and glowing feedback, it is most sincerely appreciated. We are very much looking forward in welcoming you again when you are next travelling to Koh Samui. Until then, sawasdee and safe travels. Kindest Regards Leah Matters

What a spectacular resort! The outrigger met all the criteria we had for choosing a hotel on koh Samui. Previous TripAdvisor reviews helped with our selection. The hotel was newly renovated & is a beautiful colonial style hotel with large comfortable rooms. We were in rm 222 overlooking the pool across from the staircase (which was only noisy one more with early departures). The king size bed was nice & comfy with oversized pillows & a fluffy duvet. There were adequate outlets for any electronics that required charging & altho there wasn’t an outlet in the bathroom for the hair dryer there was one behind the kettle on a shelf near the mirrored cupboard doors. There was plenty of room in the closet to hang clothing as well as (3) drawers. The bathroom was a little small but it was nicely set up. Housekeeping staff kept the room looking spotless & thankfully also paid attention to the towel/water/linen signs we would leave out. They did not replace them every day which we had noticed at other hotels despite leaving signage out saying it wasn’t required. We had breakfast included with our reservation, it was delicious with lots of variety from several hot dishes a grill for omelettes, fresh fruit, yogurt, breads cheese etc plus several drink options including juices chocolate milk & of course coffee. The staff in the dining hall were always friendly & welcomed you with a smile & sawadee ka! The breakfast area is quite large & tastefully decorated & located in the central part of the property away from the noisy street. We did not have any other meals at the hotel which they served at the edge water dining area which was waterfront. However we did see others with food that look delicious. As mentioned in other reviews the hotel rooms are located in the main part of the resort on one side of a busy Main Street but there are (2) crossing guards to control traffic & help people safely cross the road to the edge water pool bar & restaurant. They too were always smiling & very efficient at what they did. The amenities at the resort were perfect for our needs. The gym had lots of great quality equipment & was open 24/7 I was usually the only one using it whenever I went. The resort also offers various programs for adults including yoga intro to Thai language exercise boot camp & for children. We took advantage of using resort paddle boards & playing ping pong during our stay. There were several great places to eat within easy walking distance from the hotel. We also took our laundry to one of the little laundry services nearby. We walked to the beautiful Lamai beach (located to the right of the resort when you are at the Edgewater pool Gavin the sea. It is worth the walk. So many staff made our stay a five star stay including Ice, Kawee, Tom (helped with paddle boards) & Non (helped answer questions about texts we were getting from the Thai cell compamy whose aim card we were using!) All in all it was a wonderful stay in a spectacular resort hotel.

My family & I have just returned from a wonderful stay at Outrigger, Koh Samui. If this is the general standard of all Outrigger hotels then we will definitely be staying in others. From arrival to departure we had absolutely no complaints. The staff were all very friendly & welcoming both in the hotel & at the pool & restaurant across the road. Never no issues crossing the road as the traffic wardens stopped the traffic within seconds allowing guests to safely cross. Pool area was a delight. Plenty of sunbeds & quality complimentary beach towels. Rooms were cleaned daily & beds were very comfortable. A good selection for breakfast & the friendliest of chefs. 7/11 supermarket beside the hotel selling everything you could need & about a 15-20 minute walk to the Main Street of Lamai. Beach directly in front of the pool was disappointing as no sand but nice beaches either side. Silver beach, about a 20 minute walk was a beautiful cove & has a reasonably priced beach bar offering food & drinks.

· I don't usually stay in a 5 Star Hotels but the offer i got, i couldn't refuse. This was the first time that i felt very comfortable at a 5 Star Hotel and i stayed in many, especially travelling alone. The bed was dreamy comfortable and i coud have spent the whole day just laying in it. The Personal is very friendly and professional. Loved the walk over to the Pool to the beach and the security guards really were helpful for crossing the street. Of course in a 5 Star Hotel the food and drinks are going to be overpriced especially by Thai standards but i found them ok. You get what you pay for and the food was exceptionally good.
