Our room was a very long walk from the reception area. The lighting is inadequate, and no directions to help find the reception area or dining room. As described in other reviews, there is very little privacy in the bathroom. Bed was comfortable, room was large. Drapes were very dirty with mildew across the bottom. Interesting buffet dinner in the...

We stayed at Protea Hotel Umfolozi River for one night with a tour group. There is a large lobby with free wifi and a nice dining area where we enjoyed an okay buffet dinner. Getting to and from the rooms at night (or early morning as we were up at 4:15 for our game drive to the close by Hluhluwe...

We Booked 2 rooms (cancelable until 6pm the day of our arrival) - booked here due to the location to the game reserve as we had a Safari early the next day. Our arrival to the hotel was off of the motorway along a dirt track for 1km - we were told by the security guard at the gate that...

There seems to have been some improvement since the poor reviews below. Check in was quick and easy with a very friendly professional receptionist. It was pleasing that they arranged an early check in for me on request. In fact, both ladies that helped me with check in and queries during my stay created a very good impression. The property...

We arrived and everything looked quite dusty and drab on first impression of the hotel entrance. Rooms were ok but bit dated. Needs a revamp. Pools were green and we were informed that they have been that way for the past few months. So hot and we needed to swim. What a waste. Food wasn't good at the buffet dinner....

We spent 2 nights at this hotel. The food was great, their was free wifi in lobby, the grounds were beautiful. Our room was outstanding. The hotel was a short distance away from the Hluhluwe Imfolozi Game Reserve.

This place has single handedly tarnishing the Protea hotel brand for us. It was by far the worst hotel experience of our lives. The toilet didn't work properly. Aircon made so much noise we had to switch it off even though it was crazy hot. The first room had such a bad smell we had to change it, the second...

We stayed at this hotel during a recent Gate 1 tour. The hotel is nice with lush surroundings. The breakfast buffet was average, the room was average...but clean. The hotel is remote and quiet. It was OK for the price point.

We arrived late at night to this lovely lush hotel. It was a quick stopover with not much time to explore. Dinner buffet was amply supplied. Bed was restful, shower a God send! no mosquitos bothered me as I was slathered in Avon's Skin so Soft body oil. We picked up our equally stocked breakfast boxes and took off the...

It was so quiet. We only spent one night here but I would have liked more time here. It is very cute and secluded feeling property. I especially enjoyed the tree in the driveway area full of weaver birds. The birds are beautiful but I what drew me to the tree was the nests and the fact that the male...
