Like an island within an island, this is GRAND BAY BEACH RESORT. Understated design, attention to detail, instinctive hospitality, tasteful food and a personalised approach are only a few of the ingredients which make our small "island" a very special getaway, ideal for those who seek tranquillity and calmness, excellent cuisine, and upgraded spaces and services.GRAND BAY BEACH RESORT is located directly on the 3 km long beach of the scenic fishing village of Kolymbari, amongst scenery of unparalleled beauty, and near settlements that retain their traditional Cretan character, just 23 km west of the most picturesque town of Crete, Chania and about 35km away from its international airport.

Spent 11 nights in a sea view shared pool room on ultra all inclusive package. Hotel staff incredible, nothing too much trouble. Room immaculate and food excellent although limited choice. However,A LA carte meals superb. Special mention for Janis, Spiros, and Maria, who were all amazing. Ideal for a real chill out holiday. Low key entertainment and located in small fishing village of Kolymbari. Highly recommended.

My wife and I spent a week at this hotel at the end of August and the 4* rating is overrated. Whilst the location in terms of proximity to the beach is excellent the rooms and the food are not great. The air conditioning is poor and the in-bath shower facility is installed at the wrong end of the bath so you could not actually stand under the shower !! The room entrance door clashes with the built in wardrobe so the cupboard door only partially opened which prevented the storage of our clothes. I could go on but suffice to say the room was not up to a 4* rating. As we were all inclusive, we expected that all local drinks are included whilst the bars are open. This is not the case. The all inclusive facility ends at 11pm and yet the bar stays open until the early hours. So if you want a drink after 11pm, be that local brand or branded drinks, you have to pay. One minute past 11pm you pay !!! If you want a bottle of water at any time in your room, you have to pay for it. The water is only free at the bar until 11pm. The all inclusive facility ends at lunchtime on the departure day so if you have a late flight, any beverages you require have to be paid for. As we arrived late at the hotel and couldn’t take advantage of the inclusive facility, you would have thought that the hotel would provide food and drink on our last day but this wasn’t the case. On one particular day, the hotel staff were instructed to remove the towels of the sun loungers that were occupied even though the guests had been using them for a uniform hours and gone for a swim in the sea or had gone for breakfast. All the personal belongings were just dumped at the end of the pool bar. Great customer relations !!!! When this was discussed with the hotel manager his attitude left a lot to be desired and he just didn’t give a damn. A number of guests were put in rooms that were not what they had actually booked and were moved several times over the space of a few days to try and appease them. Shocking !! Choose this hotel at your own risk but I certainly would not return to this hotel.

A fantastic hotel with friendly staff. Very clean. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. It was spotless all the time. Close to local village and the bus stop was right outside the door to get to next big town and Chania. Good variety of food and drinks.

Review collected in partnership with Jet2holidays
We had a very relaxing stay in a quiet and calm hotel. All staff were great and were so friendly, professional and really took an interest in our stay there in ensuring we were very happy and comfortable. The location was great along a lovely stoney beach and bay area that that was great for swimming and walks. The food and drink selection was perfect for us, and we received lovely little packed lunches if we said we were going out for the day. Our room was perfect, large and comfortable with a great view out across the bay on one side and the distant mountains on the other. We loved all the little touches that made out stay even more memorable. We had an excellent Cretan experience and would certainly return as soon as we can.

Review collected in partnership with this hotel
Myself and my partner were staying for 5 nights premium all inclusive in a sea front junior suite. We had nothing but issues from the moment we arrived at the hotel. Upon check in we were told our room was not available for the first night and that they would have to put us in a different room. We had no choice but to accept this, obviously a bit upset that we were not getting the room we had booked. We were offered extra hours all inclusive on our check out day but we didn't need this as we were leaving at midday anyway, they then offered us a massage each - we already had one included and therefore didn't need a second one, especially as my partner wouldn't use the one we already had. We were told they would come up with something to apologise for this inconvenient - this did not happen and nothing more was said about it!! We were told to be at reception at 1pm the next day to move rooms. Our temporary room was clean, but we were not provided with beach towels and them mini bar was not fully stocked. With this room were 2 reserved sun beds which was great for the day we arrived as there are VERY limited sun beds, especially when there is a red flag on the beach and the sea is too rough there is then no where to have the sun beds on the beach unless you want to be lay in the sea! We asked at the bar for beach towels, the staff were not helpful and just said you need to speak with reception. The next day we lay on our sun beds to be disturbed every 15 minutes by someone coming into our room - the maids clearly needed us to leave our room, but nobody had asked us too and we were still thinking we needed to be at reception at 1pm as arranged. By midday we receive a call from reception asking us to move - the maid is standing waiting outside our room for this to happen. Nobody helped us as we proceeded to move rooms. We had to leave the reserved sun beds now in the middle of the day to try to find somewhere else to sit - believe me very difficult!!! Not relaxing first night or day. Speaking to other guests this is common practice at this hotel everyone was being put in the wrong rooms and then having to move. If you don't agree good luck - you will be asked to sign a form to say you won't leave a bad review (very professional!). The service over all left a lot to be desired. The hotel itself is very dated and not what we would have expected from a 4* hotel. We did premium all inclusive - do not think about going unless you can do this. It made the stay that little bit more bearable. The a la carte restaurant is lovely the food is delicious and the service completely different to that received anywhere else in the hotel. The internet doesn't work properly most of the time. The rooms themselves are clean but very dated. The hair dryer in the bathroom is of poor quality and ours was falling off the wall leaving wires exposed to the water elements of a bathroom! We were often only provided 1 bath towel for 2 people and the towels we were provided often had holes in them. We only got extra when having to complain at reception the need for more towels! I made use of the free massage provided, a lovely added extra - not such an experience received though. Work was being carried out to the gym opposite the massage rooms so throughout the whole massage there was banging and drills being used providing not such a relaxing experience. Upon check out Alex the manager did not seem to care that we said we were unhappy with our stay and had received nothing but hassle since the moment we arrived. We had a bill to pay for the city tax and the ice cream from the pool bar which is not free. We opted to pay this by card - we have a Revolute card and wish to always pay in the local currency. Alex did not give us this option and automatically selected GBP for us. We realised when received the notification on our phone once the transaction had gone through and brought this up with him. He did offer to cancel it and re-do the transaction but by this point our taxi was outside and we just wanted to get out of this shambles of a hotel. I would not stay here again. I would not recommend it to any family or friends. I certainly would not class this as a 4* hotel and I have travelled to many places all over the world. It is not cheap for what is provided at all. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE - it will be the best decision you can make!!!!! We did however, eat out one of the nights and we went to Palio Arhontiko which was wonderful. We received great service, the food was delicious and the wine list was huge - would highly recommend a meal here.
