Like an island within an island, this is GRAND BAY BEACH RESORT. Understated design, attention to detail, instinctive hospitality, tasteful food and a personalised approach are only a few of the ingredients which make our small "island" a very special getaway, ideal for those who seek tranquillity and calmness, excellent cuisine, and upgraded spaces and services.GRAND BAY BEACH RESORT is located directly on the 3 km long beach of the scenic fishing village of Kolymbari, amongst scenery of unparalleled beauty, and near settlements that retain their traditional Cretan character, just 23 km west of the most picturesque town of Crete, Chania and about 35km away from its international airport.

We stayed for 10 days in mid-October, arriving at the same time as the storm. A bit of a let-down but we still managed to relax and enjoy what the hotel had to offer (food and alcohol mostly!). We even found the gym! The monastery along the road is within walking distance and well worth a trip. We found the staff really friendly and helpful, especially at meal times when drinks were always available. There were always plenty of choices at the buffet so we never bothered with the a la carte. The inside bar area was quite small but again all the staff were great and were happy to mix a decent cocktail or two. There were always loungers available (once the sun appeared) and the sea became calm enough to brave a swim. We had a basic room which was fine but quite a bit smaller than some of the suites we saw. It was cleaned every day though and fresh towels were supplied. The hotel is in a quiet area so best not to go with expectations of a lively nightlife. The buses to Chania are regular and cheap but forget any polite queueing and grab yourself a seat on the return journey. The town itself is well worth a visit, and a walk around the harbour wall to the lighthouse is a must-do. All in all, we had a relaxing time and met some lovely people.

This hotel has some serious problems that need addressing Staff some good many bad expect to have a tip first rather than give service poor as in 4 small bottles of wine for 4 people at a table and a bottle of water what you get is 1 small bottle of wine for 4 and a warm bottle of water they do not listen they think they deserve. Hotel is of a bad design many areas do not have handrails .Swimming pool 1 depth throughout 1.4 mtrs deep this is all pools there are no steps or a gradual slope into any there are ladders but if you have mobility issues don't even bother . Food in general is quite boring and questionable in my opinion if you want a decent meal breakfast is best no faults Entertainment is pretty dire laughable Entertainers possibly payed hotel to play Our room junior suite with pool in general satisfactory bathroom needs ripping out and replaced with wet room WiFi give me a break its gone down again poor Location start bus stop on return you need to hustle for a seat as you will stand majority of way back Chania well worth the trip travelling to there and back about an hour No outing made as stories of bad experiences including extra charges for this and that Location in the middle of nowhere a few shops with a 20 minute walk one way and towards harbour some very nice restaurants The weather and beach is what it is you already know Would we go back NO NO NO The only real positives are we did meet some very nice people

My first credit must go to the staff at this hotel. They were so friendly and hard working but still very professional in everything they did. We were there during the worst storm that the island had experienced in a long time but the staff were completely unfazed and just concentrated on giving the same excellent service that was the norm. Special thanks to Zoe, Natasha, Christina, Sarantos, Mateo, Costas and Veronica. Now to the hotel itself...... It is a relatively small hotel, which gives it a more friendly and relaxed atmosphere, and it is right on the sand and shingle beach. Our room was a first floor junior sea view suite with a balcony. The room was spacious and light with a very comfortable bed (and wonderful pillows), TV, fridge, coffee maker, etc. It had a separate bathroom / WC with a bath and integral shower. The whole suite was kept in pristine condition by our maid, who visited twice each day. The buffet restaurant is in the main building and has a good sized outdoor area where, weather permitting, we ate, with a lovely sea view. The breakfast was fantastic every day with a wide choice and bottomless fresh coffee provided by Sarantos. Lunch and dinner were also of high quality with a good choice of starters, mains and the most delicious sweets. Drinks are ordered at your table and served by the excellent waiters and waitresses. There are two bars at the hotel. The pool bar (run by the wonderfully energetic and contagiously happy Natasha - hello from the man of your dreams) and the main (evening) bar which is expertly run by Costas - how full can you fill a wine glass? There are plenty of sun loungers around the hotel and on the beach - some a little more comfortable than others - and it was generally not difficult to find a bed at any time of day. The sea view suites with pool access each have their own loungers but guests tended to move off them and onto the other beds in an effort to chase the sun. Please note that the beach here is north facing which means that, although you may have a wonderful sea view, you will not see much of the sun from your terrace or balcony. This north facing aspect is probably also the reason that the pools are very cold. In October, when we we there, not too many people were brave enough to take a dip. Some people insisted that the sea was actually a lot warmer! We travelled with Jet2 and I must give a mention to their "customer helper" Leah. She is absolutely superb. The best holiday rep we have ever had the pleasure to meet. We stayed for 14 nights at this hotel and, although we could have been luckier with the weather, I can honestly say we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with some tremendous people - both staff and guests. We will be back but probably in September rather that October. Thank you to all at Grand Bay.

This was our first holiday away without children, and we were looking for a relaxing break away. The Grand Bay allowed us to do this. If you're looking for a busy hotel, with plenty of entertainment and things to do, book elsewhere. But if you're happy to just relax, then this is ideal. We arrived in the early hours, and were quickly shown to our room. Our seaview room was clean, with a comfy bed, plenty of towels, and a welcome gift of wine and pastries. Despite being short staffed, the staff were brilliant. From the cleaners, who were always busy aroind the hotel, to the reception. Natasha at the pool bar, with her infectious smile, bubbly personality and great cocktails for me to try. She always remembered what drinks guests liked. Zoe in the restaurants was ever the professional. Welcoming everyone in. She always knew your room number, and would chat with you abiut your day. Sarantos always seemed to be there, and greeted you with a friendly smile. There's a bus stop outside the hotel, that takes you to Chania. It takes about 40mins. We also walked into.the village and up to the monastery. Lea our Jet2 rep was amazing. She seemed to be at the hotel everyday. Her invaluable information and pure passion for the area is unbeatable.. if you get the chance book onto the Happy train excursion. They do 2 different ones, but we did the one that was orange picking/wine tasting/monastery The weather wasn't great on the day, but we really enjoyed it, but also made great friends whilst.on the trip, who we then met up with every night

We arrived on holiday and upgraded our room without a problem. The staff were brilliant and nothing was to much trouble. The food was fabulous with a good variety to choose from and Zoe and her staff always were welcoming and very attentive in the restaurant. Our jet 2 rep Leah was so helpful and made an appearance every day, she made time to talk to everyone and sort out any query and excursions. The views and swimming in the sea was great. We we a bit unlucky with the weather for a few days, so we went on some trip to the local town and visited villages and mountains inland. We enjoyed the evening entertainment especially the musicians. Thank you Giannoulis for a lovely holiday. See you next year. .

We’ve just returned after a few days stay at this hotel. We received a warm welcome on arrival and we’re quickly checked in by reception who explained everything upon arrival. The room was really clean and is cleaned every day by hotel staff. Food at the hotel is buffet style but is always fresh and monitored by staff. Staff take drinks orders from the beach and from the pools around the hotel. I really couldn’t fault the staff, nothing is too much trouble, because the hotel is smaller the staff get to know you during your stay. We had some unfortunate bad weather during our stay but we had a hire car which allowed us to drive out and see the sites. We will definitely be returning to this hotel again, hopefully for a bit more sunshine next time. Anyone looking for great adults only hotel, for a nice relaxed holiday, look no further, you will not be disappointed.
