Stunning. Stunning. Stunning. The setting is just stunning. Rustic yet modern, surrounded by miles and miles of Italian countryside: oVineyards, sunflower fields, olive groves and the best sun sets ever all seen from your room and the terrace restaurant. The welcome: second to none. The staff really are fantastic. Ciso, Mani, Lisa and Aldo to name but a few. They...

This medieval village, turned into a hotel, hidden amongst the vineyards and olive groves bragged a location that was both secluded and stunning. Our room was traditional and the bathroom was lovely. Not quite luxury, but lovely. The Wi-Fi was patchy, but the excellent air con in the room was enough of an escape from the heat outside. The restaurant...

This hotel is in a lovely setting on top of a hill based in an old medieval building and overlooking the plain below. It was converted about 30 years ago so is getting a bit shabby. There seems to be a lack of investment so that rooms do not have working air conditioning or even a fan and such things...

The hotel used to be a monestary so you should know that it's way up on top of a hill with not much to do other than relax and take in the peace and tranquility . Staff are very good and very helpful. Food is ok nothing to write home about I'm afraid and some rooms you will have a...

The location of the Relais Il Canalicchio is superb. We were treated to a spectacular sunset every evening as we ate dinner on the terrace. The superior rooms are individual and charming, with air-conditioning and a useful fridge and room safe. What makes this a very special place, however, is the hardworking, respectful yet friendly staff who seem to appreciate...

We stayed 5 nights - the plus points are the great location with beautiful views from the dinner terrace and friendly staff. For us the distinct negative was the food quality which while perfectly edible fell well short of the gastronomic quality the advertising had led us to expect. We went in the expectation of taking advantage of the advertised...

As you get your first glimpse of the Hotel, you think you have arrived in wonderland - it is a stunning sight.....especially after you have just viewed fields and fields of sunflowers all nodding to you in greeting. We were totally happy with the food (always beautifully presented with interesting dinner menus) the staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly...

Location:- peaceful with elevated panoramic views over Umbrian countryside from the terrace where dinner and breakfast are served; wonderful sunsets. However it is about 8km to nearest bus stop/supermarket/pharmacy- impractical to walk in the heat, making care hire desirable. Superior Room was spacious with mini fridge( not stocked) and safe and AC at no extra charge. Few rooms have a...

Hotel and location exceeded our expectations in every way. The views from the terrace take in the magic of the Umbrian countryside. Scents of jasmine, roses and lavender fill the air as you eat breakfast, etc. A superbly relaxing atmosphere surrounds the whole area of the hotel and gardens. Luxurious and spacious Spa facilities to add to the relaxed style. Approach...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Relais Il Canalicchio stands like a small gem inset into the summit of a hill. The picturesque town built around the Castello di Poggio, which dates to the 10th-11th centuries, dominates the town with its imposing tower and a splendid little church close to the vineyards and olive groves at the centre of the lush Umbrian countryside. The luxury Relais has almost completely remodeled and enclosed the town of Canalicchio, an intact and resplendent oasis of peace, where only the twittering of birds interrupts the relaxing stillness. Inside, the historic and rural origins of the place are obvious; it still has its apparent castle-like structure and boasts an enormous and exquisite millstone, the old press and some lovely arches, evoking the enchanting atmosphere and charm of times gone by. ... more   less
