We decided to go to Sardinia for a relaxing week holiday. Our point of arrival was Olbia so we decided to look for a beach hotel on the north of the bay in to Olbia. We found Pelican Beach. Looks really nice was our thoughts. Let’s go for a sea view room. They also mentioned something about beach service not included. OK. So if we want to eat there, we will be more charged. No problem. Here is the hook-ups. The hotel area is divided by a street. The fancy part is near the beach and the garden is for the one’s renting bungalows. The Beach service was in fact sunchairs and umbrella for 30 EUR a day. Big disappointment there.. The room we got had sea view from the side so I guess that was not a con but we expected to have a full sea view. I do not recommend this hotel and if we could make a zero star review. I’d still give it a one due to the clean room and nice reception staff.

Excellent location, central to Costa Smeralda. Large rooms and very tranquil setting. Breakfast is very good with plenty of options. Other local dining options are available. We stayed in the main building with an ocean view... worth the extra $$.

We were very sceptical after reading several previous reviews of this hotel. But to our delight it was absolutely wonderful a bit tired but nonetheless fabulous! We were not charged for sunbeds on the beach as it was end of season I would actually have been very annoyed if this were the case but for us it wasn’t. We were in a comfort room in the back part of the hotel but it had wonderful views of the pool and the sea. Breakfast was great you could request omelettes etc at a charge but I felt what was on offer was more than adequate. The hotel restaurant was really good the best in the area. The bar staff were great. We had a wonderful massage in the spa. The restaurants in and around the hotel are a little walk away and are quite basic good food but very rustic (no need to dress up) we hired a car and had a lovely drive around we went to Smeralda which has a lovely port and very nice shops. Olbia is also lovely to spend a day or evening which is only a 20 minute drive away. All in all we had a very enjoyable relaxing week in beautiful Sardinia which we highly recommend and would definitely return to the Pelican.

I was extremely excited to check into the pelican but quickly began noticing issues from the get go. To start, their beds are so painful I have had back issues since staying ( I am young and healthy and have never experienced back pain of this degree). Their restaurant is offensively bad and overpriced, I attempted several meals and was more upset about my experience every time I ordered. I got a massage that was supposed to cost 55 dollars. Yet they charged me 85 because I was allowed access to their facility, Despite not using anything except the massage bed. Everything about my experience here was horrific. I strongly suggest looking elsewhere when planning your trip

Beautiful small hotel unfortunately our room was not very quiet, we could here the neighbours flashing the toilet and generally talking as well as the room door banging closed. The hotel charging for the use of parasols and sun beds on their private beach was also a disappointment, this added another £420 to the cost of our holiday. I’m GF and felt the hotel didn’t really cater for me, each morning I had to ask for GF bread, you would have thought that after a few days it would have been supplied without me asking. But generally this was a nice place to stay, the room was always clean and the staff polite.

So we arrived and they had booked us into the wrong rooms, then after switching them they left other peoples purchases on our room to pay at the end of the stay. For 40+ rooms in the main hotel with the pool they had 7 sunbeds, yes only 7 sunbeds, and if you cross the road to the lawned area all sunbeds are reserved for the suites, something not mentioned on the website, and to hire a sunbed for our group every day on the private beach area it would cost over £500 extra, again something not mentioned on the website. And if you ask reception for help, well think again, they are anti customer service and either ignore you, walk off during a conversation or make false promises. If you are after a relaxing hassle free holiday with great service, avoid this place due to reception staff. Shame as nice enough hotel and great maid and bar staff service, just let down by poor attitudes and customer service training for the reception staff.

We had a fabulous week in this hidden gem of a resort. The beach was everything we had hoped with great snorkelling opportunities. It was very clean and the water clear. We had done some research so we were aware that beach loungers were an extra €30 a pair for a whole day. The lawn loungers were reserved for guests staying in suites. It wasn’t well advertised so whilst we expected this it was surprising the number of guests who did not. The lifeguard was pretty flexible though and depending on what time you arrived rf left you were charged for either a whole or a half day. We stayed B&B and i would recommend this as there were plenty of great restaurants within a 15 min walk of the hotel. The closest was Bar Bollo. A friendly family run restaurant a 5 minute walk away which served the most amazing local dishes. Definitely worth a visit. Unless you go early though recommend you book a table. The hotel restaurant served excellent food but it was very expensive. The hotel staff were friendly & helpful and most spoke very good English so making yourself understood was not a problem. Our room was well appointed & cleaned daily to a very high standard. The only blot on this holiday was discovering we had been charged over €150 for a meal we didn’t have including an €85 bottle of wine! Charges were made against room number rather than you signing for them. Lesson learned, recommend a careful check to all. To be fair I was presented the bill at 0630 local time so only gave it a cursory glance. Sardinia is a wonderful place to visit and we will definitely be back and would have no problem staying at The Pelican again.

The resort is split between two buildings. The beachside building is by far the more superior element of the resort. Unfortunately we were staying in the building behind which housed the gym and spa. Guests staying in this building are not allowed to use the sunbeds on the garden area behind the beach, these are reserved for guests in superior rooms. The room we stayed in was ok although the rooftop gym was right above us and so we were disturbed by the sound of people running on the treadmills in the morning. We had a nice sea view from the balcony and the standard of cleaning of the room was good. The quality of food in the restaurant was very good but also very expensive! However, there is a total lack of transparency with additional/optional charges at the resort. It was only when we arrived that we were told by reception that we would have to pay €40 a day for use of 2 sunbeds and parasol on the beach! The plan was for a beach holiday so to find out about this extra charge to use the beach on arrival was a shock. There is no mention of this extra charge on the resort website. The breakfast offered was limited and again there were extra charges for food items like fried eggs, omelettes and certain types of coffee. I've never know extra charges for these items at other hotels or resorts we've stayed at. To use the spa is €30 per person for 50 minutes. Because of these extra charges we did not have the holiday getaway we had hoped for. The resort only has one restaurant and there are only a handful of other restaurants in the vicinity. If you haven't access to a car there is a bus service that will take you into Olbia but its not a frequent service. We were also shocked to see a resort guest get tasered by police on the resort premises on our second day! This is not a cheap resort in the first place and use of sunbeds and spa facilities should be inclusive but was not. It is for this reason that I do not feel that this resort offers value for money and I would not recommend it to other holidaymakers.

We stayed at the hotel for a week, and really enjoyed our holidays: the location is great, 10 minutes away from Olbia by car, the room was clean and comfortable and the beach in front of the hotel is beautiful. What we enjoyed most was the kindness of the staff, and the delicious food and cocktails at a good price. We will definitely come back!

If you are looking for an adults only or couples get away with Spa facilities, in the North East of the island then Pelican Beach has to be one to look at closely. We had a Junior Suite which was upgraded which came with a private outside decked area with outside loungers, chairs and table over looking the sea enabling room service and eating outside. Wi-Fi was strong as was the air con and the entire complex was very clean, tidy and well presented. Whilst the resort could do with a bit of a refresh at some point (perhaps a little tired) it certainly would not detract from the 5* rating we have given it. The food and restaurant area was excellent with lovely views of the sea. The restaurant service was very professional and we were very well attended. The food and menu was absolutely fantastic. There is a convenient bus stop 5 mins walk away to Olbia town which too around 20mins. Staff were friendly and attentive and to be honest the whole package with flights and transfers for a 7 day B&B was reasonable. Very happy holiday!
