My wife and I stayed for 5 nights in September. We had a lovely Chinese room overlooking the sea. Our Cocker Spaniel was made welcome as well as us. Mark was a great host giving advice on local walks and attractions as well as preparing a lovely breakfast each day. We liked the informality and the warm friendliness. Would be... More

Mt Vernon is a beautiful home that sits on the Flaggy Shore. If you want an experience that transports you to another time this is where you'll want to stay. We were greeted by Mark and he is so nice and friendly - funny too. He was very helpful with suggestions on where to eat and what to see. The... More

We stayed here, unfortunately for just one night, but enjoyed our comfortable garden room and our host Mark's hospitality and cuisine. Delicious dinner with our guests and breakfast. Nice walks along the coast and in the Burren.

As part of the hidden Ireland program of historic homes serving as B&Bs, I think MV suits just fine. My room with en suite bathroom was comfortable and had a nice view of the garden, which I loved. However some of the "guidelines" about how things operate and where things go were not covered with me. So for the two... More

Just returned from a three stay at Mount Vernon. This was our first visit to this spot and candidly we weren't sure exactly what to expect. In short, it was a just great. The house is beautiful with terrific character and a wonderful history. It's a very quiet setting with fantastic views and we enjoyed the fact that there are... More

We would like to share with others our reflections on a recent visit to Mount Vernon Co Clare listed in your current hidden ireland. My husband and, sister and 16 month old baby were truly looking forward to an inspirational stay in a house steeped in the literary culture of Ireland . On arrival we were initially greeted by a... Unfortunately the behaviour and attitude of these guests made it impossible for us to provide hospitality for them during their brief stay. There was no charge applied for the accommodation provided. More

We had a very nice stay in this 300 year old house facing the sea. The history of the old house was fascinating including links to George Washington, and visits by Yeats and Shaw. Our room and ensuite bathroom were large and beautifully and rather eclectically furnished and we enjoyed the stay immensely; getting up early to enjoy a beautiful... More

This is a lovely 18th C house steeped in history. We had a nice room and the breakfast in the dining room was excellent as was sitting by the log fire in the evening, in the sitting room. The host is very knowledgeable of the Burren and there is an extensive collection of books on various subjects relevant to the... More

How often do you get the chance to relax in the drawing room and dining room where Lady Gregory entertained Yeats, George Bernard Shaw and Augustus John? I loved the history of this white house perched on the water. For those who enjoy antiques, books, paintings and collections this place has scores of things to look at and enjoy. It... More

I can understand, reading previous reviews, why this place wouldn't suit everybody. If what you want is a grade A hotel with wi-fi and multi tv channels, this is not the place for you. What is offered here is a stay in a period house in an absolutely exquisite setting in the company of friendly and pleasant hosts. We were... More
