Family run guesthouse for a good nights rest and a hearty dinner. We are in Snæfellsnes penninsula, perfectly located to use as a starting point to travel around and visit all the must-sees in the area. Our emphasis is on giving our guests a homey stay with us with friendly staff, good food and a cozy atmosphere. We are surrounded by beautiful nature, with the glacier just outside our window. A powerful beach is in a walking distance and the area fills up with birds in the summer. The perfect place to have a relaxing stay.

Detailed Reviews
We checked in here after a long, cold, windy day out on the Snæfellsnes peninsula and a slightly scary drive through high winds and a snow storm. It was exactly what I expected for a family-run guest house, welcoming, warm, and a little quirky in the common areas. Our rooms were clean, quiet, and with enough outlets for an army of electronics. The staff was gracious and extra pillows arrived almost immediately. Dinner was delicious and the traditional fish stew really hit the spot. They leave out coffee, hot cocoa makings, and tea for the night owls and the lounge area was a lovely place to while away some time playing Uno (from the well-stocked game room) as we hoped to see the northern lights. I would stay here again in a nano-second.

Centrally located for experiencing the peninsula. But three nights for four people in a quadruple standard room is a bit too small. Also the bathroom was quite small. If you want to eat somewhere else there is a 25 min drive. Breakfast is very good with homemade specialties. Nice seaside but keep away from the arctic terns if they are nesting - they get quite aggressive

Dear Lars Thank you for taking your time to write us a review. We appreciate the feedback and happy to hear compliments on our breakfast and the lovely beach. The arctic terns can sure tease a bit on the way, we recommend a strong hat or holding something up in the air during this short section they are located in - but they do not bother when you have arrived to the beach :-) Thank you again for your stay and nice rating, welcome back! Best regards, Perla Team Langaholt

This is like a tale of two guesthouses with our experience upon arriving, and the next morning. When we checked in, the woman working the desk showed us where we could get coffee and tea, which was a cute little area that was part of the restaurant, but told us that the restaurant was closed to us that evening since they were hosting a large group, so it seemed like we couldn't really take advantage of that except for an hour or so. (When I went back up the next morning, I found another common area that wasn't part of the restaurant, so maybe we could have still come up? The communication was a bit unclear. Also, one of the charms of this place is that it is so remote, but that means that when the restaurant is closed, there is *nowhere* near to eat - we had to drive 30 minutes each way to get supper.) The next morning, though, the people working the restaurant were so helpful and friendly, and the breakfast itself was amazing - probably the best we have had in Iceland, with so many homemade goodies, and we have had an incredible run of impressive breakfasts, so that is really saying something.
Moving on to the rooms, our room was quiet and comfortable, but with the long hallways and size of the property, felt more like a motel room than part of a guesthouse (but without some of the amenities you would get in a motel room). We were on the lower level of one of the extensions, and there was also a bit of a sewer-y smell occasionally. Fortunately, there was also a door to the outside (which was terrific) as well as to the corridor, so we could clear out the smell rapidly, and enjoy the views.

Thank you for the feedback - we appreciate it! I am sorry to hear the confusion with the dinner arrangement and the area. I assume they meant the restaurant was fully booked at specific time due to the group and you could have dinner later or before? The restaurant is always open for our guests during opening hours, only the timing might need to be adapted if it is fully reserved at some particular time. The common area is available for use and I am sorry to hear of the misunderstanding. Glad you enjoyed the quiet and comfortable room, the breakfast and our helpful and friendly staff! Thank you for the compliments and your stay :-) Welcome back anytime. Best regards, Perla Team Langaholt

Driving up was depressing. It looked rather like a 50’s era motel in some deserted town, but with lots of cars parked out front.
The rooms were large. The radiator was maybe 18” wide. No closet, just a rod. A squeegee on a long handle helped dry the bathroom floor (“wet room” design, very common but most seem to have more absorbent tile).
I was traveling with 2 friends, we agreed to meet in the restaurant at 7. First one there had a story - she had sat at a table set for 3 and the young man who had checked us in told her it was reserved. She said she thought it was for us, he said no and said she could wait in the lounge. There was nobody else there and nobody ever sat at that table.
My lamb was good. As expensive as 4**** hotels though. One friend’s fish was ok. But the fish pie - let’s just say that the words used to describe it included “tasteless,” “too much cheese,” and “reconstituted dried mashed potatoes.” We ate at Budir the next night.
Iceland is very expensive, but this place is the only one on a two week trip that made me feel cheated and angry at paying the bill.

Hi carlye p, thank you for the feedback. Our hotel sure is located in open area, far away from all traffic and other stimuli. That creates very calm environment, for many of our guests and ourselves, that is the beauty of it. Sorry to hear your experience of your stay. Iceland is quite expensive, believe me I wish it was not, but our prices are just average in comparison with other restaurants - and we make quite big portions so our guests get enough food for the value of the money. Sorry that you felt cheated and angry to pay the bill, we wish your experience of our restaurant would have been better, the traditional fish stew is apparently not for everyone. I hope you enjoyed the rest of your travelling in Iceland. Best regards, Perla Team Langaholt

When we arrived, they told us that they have only fish (they couldn’t even prepare us some pasta with tomato sauce). So, we had to drive 30 minutes to the next restaurant. After a bad night (in the basic rooms you can hear every word your neighbors are saying), breakfast was bad: it was packed, there were not enough tables and when we finally got a table, there were no knives left (so, we had to use spoons to spread the butter on our bread). So, the next morning we went later. There were enough tables, but most were full of used dishes (and during the 30 minutes we had breakfast nobody came to clear and clean them). And when the telephone rang for 3 minutes straight (filling the breakfast room with an annoying noise) and nobody attempted to answer, we decided to end our breakfast. Check-out was unfriendly (no hello/how was your stay/where do you go now).
However, the location is amazing (you can see Snæfellsjökull from here) and if you only need a bed, don’t mind sleeping with earplugs and don’t need friendly service and a good, cozy breakfast, you can go there.

Dear Ramona We appreciate you taking your time to write this review, although very sorry to hear of your experience. Well.. we have a fish restaurant and don't have pasta on the menu, but we have other options like meat, vegetable dish, soups.. etc. This summer we had fish buffet on Saturdays, and those evenings we did not offer the original menu - but all other evenings the menu stands. Regarding the breakfast - we know it is no excuse but we were unfortunately understaffed but I am surprised to hear that you got unfriendly service, deep apologize for that. Also, for waiting to get a table and no knives - sometimes it happens that everyone come at the same time but everything should of course be refilled and cleaned right away. Regarding the rooms, we have few different types. The comfort rooms are the newest and therefore more modern than the others, they have the best noise cancellation. The basic rooms like it sounds you stayed in, are little older and closer to the restaurant and could therefore bear some sound from the restaurant on opening hours, closes at 21:00. Happy to hear you enjoyed the location and hope you had a lovely trip. Best regards, Perla Team Langaholt

The Langaholt Guesthouse was really easy to find, and there was plenty of car parking space outside. We received a lovely welcome from the gentleman who was on reception. Our ensuite twin/double room had amazing views over the golf course and out to sea. The room was simple but perfect for our needs. We had a lovely dinner in the restaurant (see separate review for the restaurant) included in our booking. Breakfast was fantastic, with lots of homemade bread, jams and peanut butters. The real highlights were the marinated halibut, smoked plaice pate, and cured plaice with dill sauce; a real taste of Iceland. If you are after a five star hotel then this is not the place for you but having said that, it is not trying to be. It does what it sets out to do very well.

We love the idea of a farm guesthouse but this place is kinda missing the mark for service and amenities. The room was big enough for my family of 3, but our bathroom has a shower curtain that divides the shower-head from the toilet, and there is no fan. I feel like the place is furnished in 1960s taste. It feels like it needs a facelift. The included breakfast ran out- I'm not sure if the staff wasn't expecting this many guests but halfway through our morning they had run out of oranges and the bread was dry and stale. The young waiter was an interesting fella- he practically sat down with us for dinner while taking our order. It was cute (in a way) but intrusive (in another way).

Dear chrishuntington Thank you for your stay and for taking your time to write us a review! You are correct, some of our rooms are a bit "old-fashioned", from 1980-1996. We understand that is not for everyone, but we also have newer and more modern room types. Very sorry to hear about the breakfast, this was the first big weekend since before covid. However, it is very unusual and not how it is suppose to be. As well as with the waiter, we apologize for the intrusiveness and we will look into it! We had new waiters in training and sorry that our head waiter did not notice and could have stepped in. We appreciate all feedback, especially on site so we can react straight away and make things right then and there. Thank you again for your stay and welcome back. Best regards, Perla Team Langaholt

Peeling red paint can be seen on all exterior wood. However, the interior appears well maintained.
The bed provided enough cushioning and support for my bad back. Despite showing 50C on the faucet handle, the shower only provided warm water, a common trait I have found in many of the island’s hotels.
The shower curtain also enclosed the bathroom sink, resulting in water being tracked throughout the room after bathing. I had to lay a cloth bathmat down to prevent this.
Breakfast buffet included delicious crepe-like Iceland pancakes (pönnukökur), the first hotel I have encountered which offered them.
Extensive buffet dinner - many tasty dishes satisfying a variety of pallets.

The staff were nice when we came, we had dinner which ok in price and taste. the rooms are very basic. beds were comfortable.
The real problem was breakfast which we paid for but did not get!
they were short of staff to serve breakfast. we waited for the breakfast table and coffee to be refilled for half an hour and when it didn't , and the lady trying to do everything by herself started to be impatient and rude, we decided to leave and paid for another breakfast somewhere else.
trying to comunicate with the hotel after this very expensive incident from our point of view, resulted in great appologies but refused to take responsibility and refused to refund us the breakfast worth.

We stayed in a suite with spectacular views of the ocean and glacier. The room was spotlessly clean, warm and inviting. Heated towel rail in the bathroom a nice touch. The owner was gracious and helpful. There's a constant supply of complimentary hot drinks in the dining area. Dinner was tasty, fish of the day a little pricey we thought...but that's my only complaint. Breakfast buffet was the best we had during our stay in Iceland. Previous reviews complaining about things such as the toaster taking too long (seriously?!) and other guests being noisy - that is the case with any hotel and hardly warrants a mention. Read the room descriptions, they clearly state the difference between basic, standard and comfort and of course you get what you pay for. Overall, this place is a gem and I highly recommend staying here.

Hi Aimee M,
Our breakfast buffet is open from 07:00 to 10:00 during summer season and from 08:00 to 10:00 during the winter.
We do offer to-go breakfast for our guests that need to check-out early in the morning. If you need to-go breakfast please let our staff know about it when you check-in :)

Hi,
it is impossible to tell where on the sky the Aurora Borealis will be this day. But in fact, it's enough to walk out of the house and look to the sky.
You can use this website en.vedur.is/weather/forecasts/aurora/ to see the possibilites on Aurora when you get to Iceland.
Hopefully you will see the Aurora during your stay in Iceland!
Have a good day,
Auður G.
