The building is full fledged residential complex with just 2 storeys. There are plenty of rooms which have be booked in advance especially on weekends as it is always full. There is a decent dinning hall serving breakfast for all stayers. Lunch is available on order and buffet dinner. The rooms ar not facing the sea because no light should leak out from the building towards the sea...if the lights reach the beach the turtles will be afraid to come and lay the eggs and the hatvhlings too will get misguided towards land. There is meuseum where a detailed life cycle of the turtles is depicted and very nice for first time visitors and kids. Whenever I have come here I have seen plenty of kids visiting and haven't seen any disappointment on there faces
The rooms are more than adequate with a large double bed, fridge, electric kettle, hair dryer, bathing soap, body lotion and shampoo. A variety of tea bags and coffee. They kept plate full of fruits with knife and fork to welcome us! They have room service too. All provinding service are very helpful and polite.
I have seen some one and rwo stars here but I think they were unfair.
viewing a turtle lay eggs is a matter of chance..100% on one visit during season. 80 to 90% in slightly off season and 60 to 70% in off season. So if you are not visiting in the peak season, then, stay for two days. Visits to beach are in the dark, late evening and early morning and always guided. There is a charge per person per visit if you are residing outside the complex. If you stay here all trips are free. The guides are very knowledgeable and can conduct in several languages. This place is a must visit if you are planning anything for a week or more in Oman. There are also family tents placed outside the building which are also wonderful but I am not reviewing them here.
The staff are friendly and helpful. The tents are well designed and are equipped with Bathroom, TV, Air Condition. The tent is clean, cozy and comfy. However, they are not sound proof. You can hear everything outside and outside can hear you too.
Wi-Fi is available and is free but does not reach to the tents. It only works at the main building. OmanTel signal was 2G but Ooredoo signal is 4G. The hot water was not fully working. It will slowly get less warmer although water heater was on. Towells, Shampoo and soap were available along with complementary 1.5 bottle of mineral water.
The breakfast waa good and had variety. Dinner on Thursday was la carte and buffet on Friday.
The turtle watch is the most amazing part of the trip and is part of the reservation. You walk for about 900 m on the sand till you reach the area of turtles escorted with a tour guide who explains all details while enjoying the watch that lasts for 20-40 minutes depending on how many groups are waiting and how many turtles are there.
There are plenty of places to walk around and there are many car parkings that are free.
Tents need some maintenance as some zips were not working.
Water and electricity are always available.
Overall, it is a place wort visiting.
On arrival in the evening at 8.10pm, there were already a considerable number of people in the lobby (mostly large tour groups). The reception desk allocated us two places in ‘group 4' and advised we should return to reception when our group number was announced to pay our entry fee. After this it all become chaotic, no group announcements are audible unless you stand within 2 metres of reception. Our group was eventually announced at around 9.15pm.
It is a 10 minute walk to the beach and we were guided to see a turtle actually laying eggs, a truly wonderious sight. We then received some explanation of the turtle life cycle and breeding habits, we then saw two other turtles that had completed their egg laying and were in the process of covering their nests with sand. Finally we saw a fourth turtle taking the slow and laborious path back to the water.
We thought all the turtles were treated with respect, guides ensured that no one stood too close, switched on white light torches or used flash photography. Guests are asked to stay quiet and generally we thought this rule was well observed.
Overall we spent around 30 minutes on the beach and found the visit very worthwhile. We just think that organisation could be vastly improved , there seemed to be no coordination between reception and the guides and there didn't seem to be any system to ensure everyone received an equal amount of time viewing turtles. It was apparent that some of the larger groups got far less time on the beach than others, we were one of the lucky ones.
The experience of watching the green turtle up close and in their habitat was priceless. You will be amazed by the sight of these giants coming ashore, laying their eggs and making its way back to the ocean.
Just make sure to respect the health and livelihood of the sea turtles.
We stayed in tents but..
Dirt everywhere, Broken and old furniture, old / dirty bedsheets and towels.
Fridge, TV, telephone not working, no room service, average food but very expensive.
Zips of the tents are hard to operate.
Some toilet equipment was broken.
Beach and weather is good there as temperature was around 20°C or less in night.
Restaurant staff is good, cooperative and friendly.
Advice is to stay nearby, go with your own arrangement of food as you will fine only 1 bottle of water rest everything will be charged.
Vehicles are not allowed at BEACH during night so the visitors with medical conditions and espacially with kids should go with proper arrangement of joggers as you will have to walk for 4 km approx on gravely track to watch turtles.
Room was large enough for 2+1 people.
Buffet Dinner was served at 7pm and it was really good, especially for a vegetarian (Dhal, Rice etc.).
8:20pm we assembled for the night tours and we saw 1 big green turtle. Our Guide Said al Amri was very informative.
we did again morning tour at 5am and saw 2 big turtles leaving back to sea.
My kid carried many baby turtles and left them to the waters.
Morning breakfast was great as well (paratha, aloo mutter)
Overall it was a good experience.
Regarding the facilities, there was no other activity to do until the night tour. Cycles was not in good condition.
The breakfast was a buffet, well designed for take away.
However, the reason for our trip was the turtles. The hotel provided outstanding guides (included with the room charge) and we took both an evening and an early morning excursion. We saw it all—from turtles digging their nests to tiny baby turtles trying to make it to the sea for the very first time.
All in all, it was an excellent adventure and I strongly recommend Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve.
The turtles themselves were huge and amazing. We saw every step of their cycle, a mother laying eggs, a mother burying her eggs and digging her self away from her eggs, we saw a baby and the guide took it down to the beach to release it. We saw a mother heading back into sea. It was surreal. We all had to be quiet and it was dark. It was really special and incredible. The guide at the end took us back inland and answered any questions and explained by drawing in the sand the whole process. It was informative and beautiful.
I would definitely recommend it. Its 5 rials and well worth it. It just needs better organisation or information at the beginning.
This place gets better and more professional with every visit. We have been coming here since 2009, and cannot emphasize enough how much the sanctuary is evolving into a world-class nature/wildlife experience.
We will certainly try out the tents after the current lockdown, as we were intrigued by how good they looked.
Thanks Team Turtle, you continue to grow on us.
