The hotel is close to the railway station St. Domenica - 10 minutes on foot (shortcut on the cliff); trains are always on time ;) Within the walking distance there is a supermarket. The location on the cliff allows to appreciate the immense blue of the Thyrrenian by day and the splendid view on Stromboli Island by sunset. The hotel has its 'almost private' beach, but remember good shoes are obligatory because it is down the steap cliff. The hotel is immersed in green, green garden (very beautiful) which provides shade also in a midday heat. Rooms are spacious and tidy. The Staff is amazing, very helpful and always smiling :) The hotel has its own restaurant with tipical calabrian food. There is wide a choice of antipasti - variety of vegetables prepared on 1000 ways :) There is of course 'cipolla di Tropea' - carmellized red sweet onion ;)

We arrived at the hotel very late at night and reception had stayed open to welcome us, both reception staff very nice and helpful. You need to let them know in advance if you will arrive after 10 as it is not 24 hrs. We were taken directly to our apartment which was a two bedroom plus kitchen diner which provided plenty of space for 3 of us. The accommodation is basic but perfectly adequate for the week although a couple more bits in the kitchen would have been useful - there is no oven, kettle, toaster or microwave, so self catering is quite tricky. Theres not a restaurant on site but we had a car ( a must for this location in my opinion if you want to sample the local area easily - did not see a local bus service the whole week!). There is a big supermarket just up the road (walking) and there are a couple of restaurants in santa domenica but it is a quiet little place and if you want buzz then head the extra couple of kms to tropea! I can also highly recommend the take away food shop just by the supermarket just to north of the hotel as it provided the most amazing roast chicken for 5 bucks! When we got up on the first day and headed to the terrace we were presented with a lovely meadow to one side and a full sea view to the front which for me really made the stay special (room 215). There is a tv in the kitchen but we couldn't get much of a signal and were not bothered as there is no comfortable seating for viewing only dining room chairs so we spent our time on the terrace. The complex was very quiet at this time which suited us but they were gearing up for the entertainment to start in July. I could imagine it gets noisy for the apts close to the pool so if quiet is what you need I would request it although the trade off may be a lack of view. We had breakfast every day, except one, in the bar. It was adequate but very basic and bread based and no meat or cheese or eggs provided. I asked for toast one day to take back to the apt so we could have with our eggs but was told that this was not allowed. I was really quite put out as it was a simple request especially given that we had no way of producing our own toast! All in all I loved the position of this hotel away from the bustle of Tropea but an easy drive there are many beaches to sample and you can walk to the local beach by the hotel (not for very unfit) and you can prob walk to riaci beach along the tops although we drove. Can also recommend the beaches by capo vaticano they were sandy and not too choppy. Tropea is a nice old town with good shops and beaches but they were quite dirty when we went compared to the others. The food in Trops was mostly disappointing and avoid the places that charge you for using the cutlery as its a cheek!! Parking also complete guess work! We flew Ryanair which was straight forward but unsocial timings but lamezia airport was a good choice being about 1.5 hours away going at tourist pace. Stick to the a3 initially then pick up the sp522 after pizzo as its a tight little town to drive through! Great place for holiday!!
