Detailed Reviews
Take a couple that has traveled all over the world taking notes about all the places they stayed at and let them build an accommodation. It worked. And how it worked! From a warm hearted welcome to an easy checkout, attention was paid to everything. A beautiful bar with great drinks, amazing food (go for the buffet option, a quality that is second to none), facing the sunset on comfortable furniture of course! They even have a nice pool which is very rare to find on Fogo.
The rooms have a cozy, just perfect size with one of the most comfortable mattresses I’ve ever slept on.
The employees are very friendly locals and furthermore the owners are involved in local charity projects.
Water and electricity of the lodge are self-sustaining and even some of the waste water is used to water the beautiful greenery.
I could go on for pages and the only thing we regret is only having spent one night there. On the other hand that would have bared the risk of us permanently wanting to move in…

Thank you so much for your comments! We are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us; we are always thrilled to welcome travelers that appreciate our work towards environmental sustainability! We are glad that you enjoyed the food and drink so much; we work hard to offer fresh, local products, including vegan and vegetarian options, everyday. We are also glad that you enjoyed the indoor/outdoor bungalow design. We wanted to make sure that all of our guests can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings of our little piece of Fogo! Thank you again for your comments, and we hope that we can welcome you back for longer the next time that you find yourself on Fogo! All the best, The La Fora Team

We stayed here for 3 nights recently and can't recommend it enough. It commands stunning scenery in a serene location. Aaron and Ellen were very attentive hosts and it was very clear this place is a passion project of theirs, where every detail has been given consideration. They are completely off grid, which is incredibly impressive and not particularly noticeable other than that hot water for showers can take a while to warm up (not a big deal!). They have lots of contacts on the island and helped book guides for our excursions, all of whom were wonderful. The food was all great, (with vegetarian options also available) and the bar had the usual options and a decent cocktail menu. We wish we had stayed a few more days here as we really enjoyed it - a slice of island paradise!

Thank you so much for your comments! We are so glad that you enjoyed your time with us, and we were thrilled to be able to hook you up with great guides who could show you our lovely island. We are also glad that you appreciated all of our environmental work; we try hard to be as sustainable as possible, and we are proud to be off-grid, solar powered, pesticide-free and users of recycled grey water. We are also pleased that you enjoyed the food and drinks; we are always adding new cocktails, so you will have to come back and try them! Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope to welcome you back the next time that you find yourself on Fogo! All the best, The La Fora Team

Couldn’t have been happier with our 5 night stay at beautiful La Fora. Aaron and Ellen are the absolute best - they were super helpful, friendly and informative and helped us make the most of our amazing trip to Cape Verde and Fogo in particular. La Fora is such a peaceful beautiful place and the food was all insanely delicious. Can’t recommend highly enough and can’t wait to return!

We spent two nights here at the end of our Cape Verde tour. The rooms are functionally furnished, the bathroom could have been a bit cleaner. There were no cushions for the wooden loungers by the pool, so it was impossible for me to sit comfortably. The evening meal was very good, the breakfast a bit simple, but there were only a few guests. We never encountered such unfriendly and unmotivated staff on our entire trip. At dinner in particular, attention was paid to quick service. The first course was already on the table before anyone asked what they wanted to drink.

Wonderful place ! Very quiet hotel close to nature. Great swimming pool (although a little cool for some) Excellent and varied food at a fair price. Room at the top and very comfortable! Breathtaking view of the island of Brava.
Possibility of organizing outings via the hotel, in particular various hikes on the volcano which are offered with a very competent and friendly guide!

This was the best place we stayed at during our Cape Verde islands tour. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very comfortable with lovely views. The terrace and bar were a pleasure to visit every night and the food was delicious. The owners, Aaron and Ellen, were welcoming and friendly and went to great lengths to ensure that we had an enjoyable visit. Fogo provides a number of unmissable attractions such as a volcanic crater and the capital of San Filipe is a pretty town where you can happily while away a day. I would strongly recommend a visit here.

Disappointing, the manager still absent, so no information on the festivities. This annual festival was the purpose of our visit but no information available so we missed several events....
In addition, no hot water, total darkness in the aisles, very hot bungalow because of no shade....
For us, very poor value for money

A very pretty ecolodge in nature. Lots of birds, perfect bedding in a very clean, quiet room. A restaurant that I recommend with very good and plentiful food. Friendly welcome. Nothing to complain about, the best. I will return there in the rainy season to see all this greenery.

We had the absolute joy of stumbling across La Fora as we island hopped with our family (two boys aged 2 and 4). We relocated from the UK in October and have spent a lot of time travelling the islands of Cabo Verde - and La Fora on Fogo is hands down the best place we’ve had the fortune to stay. Located a ten minute/1,000CVE drive up the slopes from Sao Felipe - the newly built, immaculate villas cling precariously to the hillside providing unspoilt views across to the island of Brava. The only sound chirping cicadas and the occasional guinea fowl. Everything at La Fora has been done with exquisite attention to detail - the welcoming owners Aaron and Ellen have literally sweat their passion for travel, environment, culture into every nook and cranny. The materials used in construction are all locally sourced, with lovely finishing touches inspired by their time in Morocco and farther afield. The mattresses have come from the USA and are the result of years of research and notes kept on a good night’s sleep in hotels - the result - a good night’s sleep! volcanic rock crushes underfoot as you walk between papayas and bananas tended by Ellen who’s an avid horticulturist. The lodge is off grid with its solar panels and own fresh ground water supply - not a plastic water bottle in sight. They’ve got the vibe just right - a sundowner enjoying the Vista with locally sourced tapas, creative drinks and chilled music and you won’t want to leave. We spent hours whiling away time between the tranquility of our villa and the pool. The immense value buffet dinners with Mediterranean inspired vegetables and creative use of local ingredients was a refreshing change from other island cuisine. The super helpful packed lunches for early starts climbing Fogo’s mesmerising volcano through to the home baked peanut cookies after dinner for the kids - the thoughtfulness that has gone into this place is remarkable, as is the fact it’s their first foray into hospitality. It took a year and a half of toil to build - but will undoubtedly provide pleasure to travellers for decades to come. As Bill Bryson might say - if you haven’t been to La Fora you must - go at once, take my pick-up.

The joy was mutual! Thank you for choosing us for your vacation; we're so glad that you enjoyed your time with us! It's always a great feeling when other travelers come and fall in love with Fogo and La Fora the way that we have fallen in love.
