Having sailed around the BVI this was our ‘decompression’ stop for a little rest and relaxation before returning to the real world. This is not our first time here and we have loved our previous visits albeit some years ago. Carlisle Bay did not disappoint. The staff are wonderful, helpful, polite and attentive. They made us feel special from arrival at the airport, whisking us through security and into our taxi. Our flight had been delayed by a few hours and even though we arrived late we were offered the full menu at ‘Indigo’. We only stayed four days but they were days worth spending here. We used the Hobie Cats, kayaks and water bikes - even having a race around an anchored yacht - and tried the water skiing and rubber doughnut. The water sports guys are the best (running out of adjectives). Friendly, competent and fun. Food in all restaurants we tried was first rate. Breakfast ‘eggs Benedict’ were better than I have had anywhere. Travelling with our teenage children and family friends we enjoyed trying to work our way through the cocktail list but fell short, another time perhaps. I cannot recommend Carlisle Bay enough.…
Having spent the previous 2 weeks sailing with our grown family in the BVIs and leaving them to fly straight back to the UK (poor them) we booked ourselves into the Carlisle Bay for some relaxation, chill and ‘us’ time. We were greeted in immigration, and then via taxi to the hotel. Once we got there the reception staff were so warm and friendly and we were shown through the grounds with the singing crickets to our suite by Serena ( I’m sorry if I spelt it wrong). Our suite was cool and clean and huge! Loved the extra touches ie the dried fruit, umbrellas, iron, tea and bath tub! Our balcony was all but out of bounds as we had a pair of Banana Quits nesting on it, they did eventually get used to us and I was able to sit and read on the lounger. Breakfast was a wonderful experience with one of the best views and freshly prepared omelettes. Service was a wee bit slow but it only encouraged us to linger. We enjoyed the spa and I wanted to mention Eve who gave me one of the best massages I’ve ever had. She didn’t muck about and really got to the problem areas. My husband loved the tennis in the evenings and we both had two fantastic walks with Silvester to Winter Hill and the Wallings and Discovery Bay. Really worth doing. Special mention to Odele one of the waitresses in East. She was so lovely and chatty and informative and herself alone added so much to our evening. I haven’t yet bought the corn meal to make the porridge but I will. Especially liked the Library where we spent a few happy hours when it rained. Easy commute to and from the airport via taxi, we only stayed 3 nights so didn’t go anywhere else to eat. The only negative was that occasionally we had to wait for food or drinks but in such a special setting, it didn’t worry us. Such a gorgeous break before heading back to the uk.…
After 2 delays due to covid we were happy to finally make it to Carlisle Bay. After reading all of the reviews we had pretty high expectations and we were not disappointed. All we can say is wow, wow, wow! We had an ocean view suite which was huge and had a lovely big balcony with fantastic views. It was lovely to sit on the day bed with a fresh coffee each morning and just admire the views. The hotel grounds are well looked after, they were adding new plants while we were there. The beach is beautiful, with the thickest beach bed cushions I have ever seen! On the last day they had added some beach hammocks as well. The ice box with cold bottled water is a great addition as is the umbrella call bell to get beach drinks and food. There are floating mesh beds that allow you to sunbathe while out in the sea. On a number of occasions we were able to see turtles as we sat there enjoying the sun. There are lots of water sports available, we particularly enjoyed the water bikes which we had never seen at other resorts, great fun. We were able to eat lunch and dinner in all of the restaurants and we were impressed with the quality and options available. Indigo was our favourite but we would have happily eaten in any of them. Fresh tuna, coconut prawns, sushi, steak, lobster and fresh fish were readily available and absolutely delicious! We enjoyed the evening bbq in Indigo and then a few days later had a beach bbq lunch with steel band at the jetty grill. We were all inclusive and it was definitely worth it as the food charges were quite high. The wine on offer was great as was the variety of cocktails available, we tried to work our way through most of them! The massage at the spa was thoroughly enjoyed and the facilities there as well as the gym are impressive. The only slight downside of the whole trip was the condition of the tennis courts but we were expecting this due to previous reviews. Apparently they are planning on improving them in the future. The staff at Carlisle bay are all lovely and really help to make this a special hotel. After such a long wait I can truly say that it was worth it and would thoroughly recommend this hotel. We can’t wait to return! Thank you Carlisle Bay for a wonderful relaxing week.…
We feel that 3/5 is a fair review for Carlisle Bay. The room was nice, and of course the beach view was superb, and if that makes your trip, stop reading here. There's lots of waterspots on offer, and the folks at that part of the hotel are super friendly and helpful. The service was hit and miss. Some people were lovely, others it seemed did not like tourists and didnt want to provide any service at all. Whilst that can be a common theme on the island, I didnt appreciate it in the venue itself. There are a number of staffing issues which meant long waits in the select few restaurants that were open. The food was mostly well prepared and presented, but sometimes was a little stale, breakfast being the worst. Travelling with a young family, we snapped up the opportunity of a 'kids club'. Unfortunately here again I feel we experienced the apathy. When i picked up my 3yr old, she was red hot, not given any water, crying her eyes out, and had wet herself with no attention given. As an adult, I'm OK with people being apathetic towards me even thought I was paying for a service, but for those hired to look after kids and not even showing them care, shame on you.…
What should have been our wonderful stay at a 5 star resort has been spoilt by the lack of food and beverage supplies at the hotel. At some point virtually every day we’ve been told by restaurant or bar staff that they “don’t have this or that available” today from the menus. Not unusual food stuffs but the likes of cheese, ham, pineapple, vanilla ice cream, cereals etc etc. So disappointing as never had this experience before and stayed in many 5 star hotels across the world! Such a shame as the staff, on the whole, are lovely and rooms are clean and comfortable. Have had an issue on several occasions where the mini bar wasn’t replenished and even after complaining to concierge it still wasn’t sorted until after second time complaining next day. Also, our room door was left open one day and the ground floor patio doors left unlocked twice by cleaners. Lots of little niggles just adding up over a two week stay. Feeling sad.…
We enjoyed a fabulous 2 weeks at the Carlisle Bay in June 2022 recommended and arranged by Janet at Kenwood Travel. For us it was a once in a lifetime experience and we were not left disappointed. The resort, including the beach, gardens and restaurants were sensational but what set Carlisle Bay apart was the staff who were always incredibly welcoming. We look forward to one day returning to celebrate an anniversary.
We had a return visit to Carlisle Bay in May of this year and it did not disappoint. The Ocean suites are wonderfully spacious with beautiful views. We stayed on an all inclusive package which I would recommend and enjoyed good meals in all the restaurants . Any slight disappointment with the infrastructure is more than made up for by the amazing staff who are without exception welcoming , attentive and professional. Looking forward to my next visit !
We have had many 'island' holidays around the world including Seychelles, Bali but Carlisle Bay, Antigua probably tops them all for quality of residency and friendliness of staff. Every staff member was there to deliver 100% service, nothing was too small to deliver. We are considering going again next year.
We had a fantastic stay at Carlisle Bay, 8 days in an Ocean Suite perfectly situated between the jetty and water sports at one end and tennis courts and spa at the other. The suite was beautiful with a large balcony and day bed overlooking the ocean and beach. There are 4 restaurants, breakfast at Indigo's on the beach was always good with super efficient staff and a mixture of buffet and a la carte. Our favourite for dinner was the Jetty Grill as the food and service, we had Kalin, was always amazing it's brilliantly run. East had gorgeous sushi and steak but felt a bit tucked away off reception. We did a lot of yoga and pilates with Sidre who was a superb teacher and we also took a lot of tennis lessons with Nigel which were brilliant and he made up for our only grumble - the condition of the courts. These were not the "well maintained" courts advertised as they were all badly neglected. They do have plans to sort this though so fingers crossed it happens. Everyone in the hotel from Tony and Latisha in front office to the restaurant and general ground staff were friendly and happy to help with any issues, we'd definitely return to this lovely hotel. I'd only add one comment, apart from the tennis courts, and that would be to reduce their plastic waste by considering reusable water bottles for guests and water filling stations.…
