Located 15 kms short of Manali, Himachal Pradesh, on Nagar-Manali road, is Oakwood Chalet, a cottage which is an amazing amalgamation of the traditional and the modern. Oakwood Chalet was originally built in the traditional form in the 1950s. It was then renovated into a luxury retreat in the year 2014. This cozy holiday cottage is currently being run by Mr Sunder Khampa, who is reknowned in the city for having envisioned and run the very successful Wild Adventures Pvt. Ltd. ( a travel company that has been operational since 1987.) Besides being situated away from the everyday hustle and bustle of the much populated Manali, Oakwood Chalet provides you with the perfect setting for a calm and serene holiday experience that would surely rejuvinate you physically as well as mentally. The independent kitchen will provide you with a wide variety of cuisines ranging from Continental, Italian, Chinese, and Indian. The ingrediants are grown at the cottage's very own organic garden ensuring that your holiday is a healthy one too. For those tourists who are interested in adventure tourism, Oakwood Chalet provides a camping site and also arranges for activities like walks in the jungle, treks, hikes, river rafting, and skiing (seasonal).

My partner and I are a couple from London. We were overwhelmed with the high level of hospitality provided. Everything from the comfort of the rooms to the speedy WiFi was excellent. We felt safe and secure within the chalet, as it is run by a warm and caring family. Their awareness of the needs of a Western traveller were remarkable, i.e. regular bottled water, seated toilets and hygienic facilities. The chalet is situated not too far from the town centre and has scenic views. I would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area!

I’ve had the luck of going to Manali three times and every time I’ve stayed here. The service is beyond incredible, they provided breakfast, lunch and dinner (and delivered lunch 20 minutes away). Coming from an Indian home in London, I’m used to tasty food, but this went far beyond my expectations. The chef cooked a variety of cuisines, all to an exceptional standard. The rooms are cosy but spacious, there is plenty of hot water (which isn’t the case everywhere in Manali) and free WiFi (again not the case everywhere). The chalet is run by a family who are very welcoming and treat you as part of their own. They have an abundance of advice on the best day trips, treks and sights all around Kullu and Manali, and can speak perfect English. The chalet is a 15-20 minutes drive from Manali town, but the peace and safety in this distance is a valuable contrast to the hotels in the town centre. Overall, if you’re coming to Manali, there is really no place else to go!

The experience was amazing from start to end. Very welcoming hosts. Rooms, dining area and the lawn were a treat. Every thing was just great, but the things which made me fall in love with this place were: 1. They will cook any thing u want and at any time that pleases u. They even packed our breakfast for the way at 5 am in the morning. Where do u get that. 2. Everybody just kept smiling for some reason and were extremely polite. 3. They have a very comfy and cosy common room where we all sat to play games. 4. Dal was so awesome and also the fresh watermelon juice and then shakes and so much more........ The only thing missing was a wifi. BUT they said that they were in the process of obtaining a new one as the previous one had to be removed due to low signal strength.

Away from the bustling main Manali town crowd and traffic, Oakwood Chalet offers a peaceful and serene place to retreat back and relax after the days travel and site-seeing....simply loved the wooden interiors and the experience of traditional dining system...best part being wrapping up the day by sipping ginger lemon honey tea at the balcony - a must do when there!!!! All this was topped up by a very warm and homely hospitality.... Overall, this is a must stay place for those looking to enjoy the real beauty of Manali....
