The hotel rooms were great and food was somewhat okay. Visited with my friends we had a great time as a group, serving time for food was 45 Mims plus the waitress seemed very bothered and miserable we got our meals with no napkins, had to request multiple times to get another drink and cups of water along with requesting wait for it; UTENSILS to eat with. It easy really sad watching as one of the porters treated another group of guest with such itter disrespect it was like he wasn't been paid enough or simply didn't want to be at work, based on the multiple reviews of being understaffed and the unpleasantness of the few staff on duty it truly angered me to watch how he treated those group of guest, my friends and I later found out from another staff after discussing what we observed his name was Gregory and he always behave that way when he didn’t have a good night, we didn’t file a complaint because we were also advised that he won't be held accountable; so what's the purpose? The front desk supervisor Ishana doesn't seem to know how to work under pressure and shouldn't be in that area a simple smile would suffice when handling guest. Kudos to the breakfast chef rasta guy sorry we forgot your name, beach attendants who were all so welcoming not forgetting Natacha Joseph we wish we can give them a 6 star ratings. You should let them teach the other staff true hospitality. If it wasn't for the lack of hospitality from majority of the staff and how they treated other guest we would've returned but until something is done with majority of your rude staff my friends and I will not be returning.

My wife and I, Californians, visited Antigua for the first time. Overall, we had a nice experience. We were given champagne on arrival which was nice and refreshing. The grounds were well groomed and facilities were clean. Beautifully landscaped, the gardeners are to be commended. The beaches were great and it was nice to kayak and paddle board without having to pay extra. The attendant at the beach was helpful in teaching my wife how to paddle board. There was an unexpected $24/day resort fee but that wasn’t a big deal. While there, we went to stingray city, went snorkeling and took a trip on the pink panther. We also did the “Treasure Island” tour which included snorkeling, a beach visit, drinks and a meal. The free day pass to “Pineapple resort” was an added but unexpected bonus . Nian in guest services was very helpful in setting these up so I recommend visiting the tour desk as soon as you arrive. We bought a necklace and ring at the jewelry shop which was nice. Racquel, in the jewelry shop, was very kind and informative. She represents the company well. The food was good and there were plenty of options for everyone. However, getting a late night snack was hard to come by. More access to water bottles would have been a inexpensive thing to help improve the experience. The bartenders were great and friendly. Drink menu diverse and I tried a lot of new drinks. However, I noticed many of the guests were not very smiley towards them which may have set a somber tone at the bar. Many of the guests would simply say, “give me this” Or “give me that”. Occasionally, I heard a “ hello, how are you? Could I please have a …” Our favorite drink: Rum 🍹 Punch The coffee ☕️ shop was great. We enjoyed our morning Latte and appreciate the excellent service she provided. They had entertainment on a few of the nights which included local dancers. Lastly, I recommend bringing extra cash 💷 💵 (dollars, pounds, euros), to tip the servers. I noticed this really brightened their day when they knew they were appreciated by the guests. Also, they have local vendors who have stuff for sale but they only accept cash. Overall, I recommend this place and we will come back again in the years to come.

Really enjoyed our stay. Verandah has character and plenty of different spaces to enjoy. The all inclusive had a good balance between healthy options and not so healthy but tasty food! Cocktails were excellent and quality branded alcohol. Can’t understand some of the reviews re staff, all pleasant (Chad deserves a mention, made such an effort for the guests). Rooms very spacious and importantly the air con was good! Also stayed at the Pineapple previously….a busier place and more compact…. Beach nicer but the two beaches at the Verandah were fine. Would defo come back.

Scorpions on the beach. Very dangerous. We were there from September 3 to September 10. Vacation was ruined the second day we were there. Scorpions went on ton of my son’s feet while playing with the sand. My son had nightmares for the rest of the vacation and he did not want to leave the room. Be aware

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for choosing The Verandah Resort & Spa and our beautiful island home. Since 2007 we have provided our guests with moments that will last forever, and in the entirety of our resort's doors opening, I have never heard of anything like this. Nonetheless, miracles happen. In the Caribbean, the climate can make outdoor areas susceptible to the intrusion of insects and pests. Our resorts are certified in international safety and green globe standards to protect our valued guests while keeping the environment's best interest at hand. I have checked, and to date, no such incidents of scorpions have been reported. And please note there are protocols to handle any such situation through our Health and Safety team on property. We genuinely hope that you will reconsider revisiting one of our properties someday so that we may provide you with the excellent vacation experience that all of our guests deserve. Kind Regards, The Verandah Resort & Spa Staff & Management

My wife and I could not fault a single thing about the hotel. Not. A . Single. Thing. There seems to be a common theme to those given poor reviews, and I think its only fair to focus on giving everyone a balanced perspective. Food - This is an all inclusive hotel. Its not Midsummer house with two Michelin stars. Having said that, the food is very good for what it is. Each night is themed with plenty of options. If you go to Antigua for the cuisine then I`m afraid you`re the one who is in the wrong. Staff - Smile at them and they`ll smile back. Can`t say we had one single issue with any member of staff and many staff went above and beyond. Daily hotel charge on checkout - Have people been living in a cave all their lives? Do your research. This is very common in many countries around the globe. You won`t be disappointed if you go here. The beaches are all very pleasant - we went slightly out of season at the beginning of September so I can not comment on what it would be like in peak, however there was so much choice weather it be by one of the multiple pools or beaches. Activities outside the hotel - you must go and see the stingray and on the Calypso Cat. Fantastic time out!

We visited in August 2022 as part of a large family group. On the whole we enjoyed it and I really want to give 5 out of 5 but just can’t. The frustrating thing is that (on the surface at least) the fixes are quick and easy. Firstly, the positives: we loved our room, the view and the overall setting. The gardens, pools and beaches are well presented and maintained. The Calypso Cat excursion was BRILLIANT and the highlight of our trip. Big thanks to the whole team involved with that. We really liked the coffee shop too. I’ve read comments about the presence of seaweed but we knew this when we booked and you can clearly see it in the photos/Google Earth, so it’s a ridiculous complaint to make. Now to the negatives: the majority of staff are surly and unwelcoming, regardless of how you treat them. The golden rule of hospitality is to smile at your guests and acknowledge them with at least a ‘hello’. If you’re going to be delayed serving them just say ‘sorry, I’ll be with you in a moment’. It’s really very basic. Often guests are ignored for a minute or more and rarely receive a smile or greeting. There were exceptions (Andre, Maurizia, Kenny, Deborah, the Calypso Cat crew and a couple of others) but this really affected our overall experience at bars and restaurants. Customers deserve better at this level. You might be short staffed and working longer hours but a smile costs nothing, particularly as we were friendly and tipped when deserved. Food and drinks were generally adequate but Seabreeze has no breeze because the windows are closed and it’s hot and stuffy in there. We wanted to eat and leave there as quick as possible which isn’t an ideal holiday dining experience. The Beach Bar and Grill was our favourite due to location and breeze but service was slow and inattentive. One dinner there was over 2hrs from arriving to finishing our main course by which point the next family booked on our table had arrived. Again, sorry you appear to be short staffed but a smile, apology and round of drinks is all you need to do. At check out we weren’t thanked or asked about the quality of our stay which I guess speaks volumes. To summarise, we enjoyed many aspects of our stay but the drinking and dining experiences really let it down. I’m sorry but we won’t consider returning.

If it was not for the resort fees would probable rate about 4. The Good: The rooms and air conditioning are good Staff in general friendly, however like everywhere in the Caribbean about 1 in 5 have poor attitude. The resort is well kept and clean Excellent new pool at the Rasta Beach. The Bad. Sand flies and other insects, my daughter was so badly bitten we nearly had to call the doctor. Resort fees. The entertainment is poor, perhaps this will improve now that covid is hopefully behind us. Overall will probably go back. TIPS: Use insect repellent when going out in the evening and a long dress or trousers. DO not use the mini golf after 4 pm unless you want to be eaten alive.

Without doubt, the worst service, facilities and food choice we have ever experienced. It was also the most expensive holiday we have ever had especially after a $24 per room surcharge not advised in our "all inclusive" holiday details. We have been lucky enough to have holidayed in 3 other Caribbean countries and all of them, Jamaica, Dominican Republic and St Lucia were infinitely superior for far less money. Several people have run through the issues already so will just add a few points. It started badly with no welcome drink, surly receptionist whos first words were to inform us of the extra charges then a long queue for a ride to the rooms. We decided to walk instead which seemed frowned upon. My son ate mostly bread rolls for dinner due to lack of choice and I was fetching my own coffee and milk for breakfast due to lack of staff. Other little touches were totally missing. A fridge in the room had two bottles of water for the week! Every other hotel has had a stocked fridge, and most were actually free! The watersports were standard fare but the beaches, obviously nothing the hotel can do about that, were not a patch on the other 3 islands mentioned. We met an American lady on our last day who had already had enough. Lock broke and they were stuck in their room until someone could be bothered to come and let them out. She had already complained and was awaiting a transfer. Lesson learnt. We had a fantastic trip round the island with adventure xtreme in a 50 mph boat with various great stops. But what really hit home was their buffet produced from the bow locker for 20 people was infinitely superior to anything we ate at the hotel and the totally different attitude of the crew who could not do enough for you. On a personal note it has put me off visiting Antigua again which is a shame as its probably great elsewhere.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for visiting our BEAUTIFUL home of Antigua. And for choosing The Verandah Resort & Spa. It is unfortunate to note your feelings of misgivings during your stay. Many of our guests love their stay and comment that our staff is their reason for returning, so it is disappointing you feel your visit was not indicative of the standard we've set for ourselves. Our island is home to 365 beaches. And best known for their friendly and welcoming people. Our shoreline is 95 miles of superb coastline. The pink and white-sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and the most satisfying and enjoyable climate in the world. Please know that your complaints of rude staff, 'American lady' issues, and underwhelming food will not fall on deaf ears, as we always embrace positive and negative feedback, as it presents an opportunity for us to review our operations and improve where necessary. Kind regards, The Verandah Resort & Spa

We’ve come to Antigua 8 years running save COVID and we’ve never had a bad experience. The Verandah was no exception. We arrived mid afternoon and were quickly checked in with a glass of champagne to welcome us. We were upgraded to a very large room that had a balcony overlooking the bay. Our room was clean, beautifully made up with plenty of cupboard space and a safe. The room was cleaned every other day and our cleaners even folded any clothes we had left and every time we went back to the room it was immaculate. Over the 9 days we stayed we had no complaints at all about the food which was varied, tasty and plentiful, The staff were warm, helpful and made us feel very welcome. The Guest Services person made sure our one request for more coffee and milk in our room was acted on quickly. Nian, the Tour manager was very helpful with suggestions and booked a trip on the resort’s own boat, the Calypso Cat, which I would strongly recommend as we snorkelled and saw turtles, starfish and countless species of tropical fish as well as having a great lunch on a deserted beach. As a amateur part qualified sailor, I was very impressed with the crew’s attention to safety and watchfulness of the guests when on board and in the water. I’ve seen other trips over the years badly managed where crew have been reckless. A special mention also for the guys managing the Water Sports. Very professional, eagle eyed and quick to act if they thought guests needed help or were struggling with catamarans or kayaks. They gave great advice, watched carefully as people set out and made sure they were safe. I’m an experienced catamaran sailor and they followed me out on their speed boat and shouted advice which I was grateful for as I was a bit rusty. Great work. The grounds of the resort are just beautiful, tropical and lush. The largest beach is safe, shallow and enclosed making it perfect for paddle boarding, kayaking or sailing. We were able to make use of the next door sister resort, Pineapple Beach, where we’ve stayed in the past. It’s been upgraded and makes a great change if you want a change of scenery. Overall, we had a great time and I would be very happy to recommend the resort to couples or families. Enjoy.

Stayed in August. Resort is well maintained, two beautiful beaches both with beach bars. Paid for an all inclusive, so we made full use of the buffet restaurant. Food was brilliant in there, had a different theme everyday. Staff very friendly, approachable and happy to chat with you. Tried all the water sports activities and they were a great laugh. The instructors were very helpful. I had no issues with paying the resort fee and tourism fee. Both were explained when I booked the holiday and upon arrival again at the hotel. I don’t understand people who moan about this. Overall a perfect holiday from the moment we stepped off the plane.
