The Verandah Antigua captivates guests with its spacious rooms and stunning views, nestled in a picturesque location favored for its convenient access to local attractions. While the friendly staff is often commended, some visitors report slow service and additional fees that seem to overshadow the value. The hotel's atmosphere teeters between lively and disruptive, with vibrant activities occasionally marred by loud music. Though amenities like varied dining and loungers are a hit, concerns over maintenance and cleanliness surface, with room upkeep and towel service receiving mixed reviews.

We enjoyed our stay and would consider returning. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The resort facilities, layout, and grounds (detached, single-story units with lots of vegetation) were excellent. We walked most of the time, but it was quick and easy to arrange transportation via golf cart. Both beaches were clean and had enough palm tree shade and lounge chairs. Both beaches have bars and restaurants.

Hotel's Favorite
My wife and I, Californians, visited Antigua for the first time. Overall, we had a nice experience. We were given champagne on arrival which was nice and refreshing. The grounds were well groomed and facilities were clean. Beautifully landscaped, the gardeners are to be commended. The beaches were great and it was nice to kayak and paddle board without having to pay extra. The attendant at the beach was helpful in teaching my wife how to paddle board. There was an unexpected $24/day resort fee but that wasn’t a big deal. While there, we went to stingray city, went snorkeling and took a trip on the pink panther. We also did the “Treasure Island” tour which included snorkeling, a beach visit, drinks and a meal. The free day pass to “Pineapple resort” was an added but unexpected bonus . Nian in guest services was very helpful in setting these up so I recommend visiting the tour desk as soon as you arrive. We bought a necklace and ring at the jewelry shop which was nice. Racquel, in the jewelry shop, was very kind and informative. She represents the company well. The food was good and there were plenty of options for everyone. However, getting a late night snack was hard to come by. More access to water bottles would have been a inexpensive thing to help improve the experience. The bartenders were great and friendly. Drink menu diverse and I tried a lot of new drinks. However, I noticed many of the guests were not very smiley towards them which may have set a somber tone at the bar. Many of the guests would simply say, “give me this” Or “give me that”. Occasionally, I heard a “ hello, how are you? Could I please have a …” Our favorite drink: Rum 🍹 Punch The coffee ☕️ shop was great. We enjoyed our morning Latte and appreciate the excellent service she provided. They had entertainment on a few of the nights which included local dancers. Lastly, I recommend bringing extra cash 💷 💵 (dollars, pounds, euros), to tip the servers. I noticed this really brightened their day when they knew they were appreciated by the guests. Also, they have local vendors who have stuff for sale but they only accept cash. Overall, I recommend this place and we will come back again in the years to come.

We are glad you enjoyed the champagne upon arrival and found the grounds well-groomed and the facilities clean. Our dedicated gardeners take pride in maintaining beautiful landscaping, and we will commend them for their hard work. It's great to hear you enjoyed the beaches and used the complimentary kayaking and paddleboarding. Our beach attendants are always ready to assist and provide helpful guidance. We're pleased you had a chance to explore popular attractions like Stingray City and enjoyed the "Treasure Island" tour. This was sold as a ‘luxury resort for a day’ on our cruise and, as it was expensive, I had high expectations which sadly, were not met. The main beach was very noisy with building work happening (of which, we were not warned). We tried to move nearer the bar area away from the noise but then were subjected to a crackling radio/sound system! We struggled to find decent loungers as all of them had seen better days. We gave up and decided to try the other beach area. We then waited over 30 mins for a buggy to take us to the other end of the resort to a beach which was quieter but had no water sports. We did have a nice lunch and cocktails. Couldn’t fault the service in the bar area but there is no waiter service on the beach itself. I think if I’d had lower expectations then I would have enjoyed it more but it was advertised as a day of being pampered in luxury surroundings but I certainly was not.

Most relaxing vacation I have ever had which was mainly due to the “no rush” set up of this resort. I went with one of my adult children and we spent most of day at the main pool. Will break down the Excellent, Good, and Okay/Not great: EXCELLENT: Room - very spacious, very clean (the housekeeping staff work very hard!), very comfortable. Because of the semi-detached unit and village-like set up, it is much quieter than a traditional hotel. Our place was kind of in the middle of the resort and at the water so not close to the main bar/pool which would generate most noise but not late. Good products for hair and body in bathroom - if you want to pack light you can leave behind the shampoo, conditioner, bath gel, and lotion. HUGE shower. 4 pillows per bed and beds were comfortable - would say same as you get at Marriott or Westin. Main Pool - no shortage of loungers and towels (may have to wait a bit on a towel but after first day you can prepare for next day). Absolutely no need to get up early to snag a spot at the pool. It was reportedly full house when we were there and we had pick of spots. Pool is clean, good temp, big enough to do some lengths, and has wonderful water loungers and tables. The loungers at the main pool were very good quality and comfortable despite not being padded. Sat all day and never got that hip pain one gets from some types. Activities - Lots on offer and friendly activities staff but NOT intrusive at all. We only went on the Devils Bridge group walk and watched everything else without any pressure. Shout out to Samita (sorry if spelled incorrectly)! Resort Layout - One can get good exercise there walking from unit to pool to restaurants, beach, etc. We never took any golf cart shuttles aside from arriving and leaving. If you have mobility issues, it might be a pain to rely on the shuttles. Some hills are quite steep but we loved walking them. This place was QUIET. I think because so spread out with 2 beaches and multiple pools. Fitness Centre - Very well outfitted - best I’ve ever seen in terms of equipment and size. Clean enough - hard to tell and of course relying on fellow fitness ppl to clean up after themselves. Used the centre most of the days we were there. Only one treadmill if that’s your thing but honestly the walking of the resort probably much nicer! Or run it as we saw a few doing. Cakes - There was a tallish, young female baker with a great smile and very pretty who makes very inventive cakes. Looked forward to the creation every night and I do not tend to eat desserts! Staff - We found the staff to be friendly and kind for the most part and not at all fake. I assumed that the tour desk and guest services were a little fed up with problems/complaints and such as they seemed reserved or stand-offish compared to most of the staff. Cafe - LOVE this at a resort to be a really good coffee or a tea. Had a couple of Americanos and herbal teas a day. Sometimes a line up as only one server but how much of a hurry do you need to be in to get back to pool? Enjoy the a/c for a few mins and don’t complain as the servers worked as quickly as possible. Spa - Amazing treatments by Julia - reflexology and massage. Not busy at all which was great for making appts but most ppl must be missing out! Yes, expensive but well worth it on vacation. Waitstaff and Hostesses - Lovely! Need more of them or different organization of them (see below). Also the omelette chef and evening roast cutter were very nice! Landscaping and Maintenance - Everything in decent shape and kept up. Staff constantly working. Pavilion where main bar and most restos are could use some work on the upper level particularly the Seabreeze buffet room. GOOD: Food - We preferred the buffet for dinner but did go to Portofino once and it was underwhelming. Very fresh salad items at buffet (apparently they have own garden). Loved all the root veggie dishes. They rotated through different themes each night. Sails & Tails had very good food and also the pizza was good for lunch. Need more staff to take away dishes at pizza place as they attracted a LOT of birds. Beaches - We avoided as not a fan of the loungers or the type of sand - dark and either man made or due to Atlantic side? There was lots going on there and many were enjoying the bars and water activities. OKAY/NOT GREAT: Staffing - Restaurants seem to be very short staffed. Something not working right. On the plus side, we were left alone and unbothered as all the staff in every area were busy all day doing their work. This means if you want a drink at the pool, you would go get it at the bar. No line ups at bar so no problem. Again, one is left alone and we found this VERY relaxing. Other Guests! - This is a problem everywhere. Mainly the guests consisted of 50+ aged couples who were respectful but of course there were a few groups who were drunk and obnoxious at times in/around the pool. Usually later on the day and we would simply leave. OVERALL - I recommend this resort for a relaxing, wellness, vacation with friend or family member. Thanks to all the staff who made it a great vacation for us.

My husband and I just spent a week here with friends ( seven of us in total) from Friday February 9 to Friday February 16. This is a stunning resort with 2 room cottages as opposed to hotel type accommodations. Our room was clean and spacious with a large walk in shower and a porch. Check in went smoothly although one of our party had trouble with her key. Our front porch light was out and took two days to repair. The grounds are sprawling with many hills. This can make walking a little challenging for those with breathing issues. The views are amazing, there are two beaches and several pools. Grab pool towels early in the AM as they are hard to get later in the day. There are a couple of areas with ping pong, pool and shuffleboard. There is also a cute ( but shabby) mini golf course that was lit at night and good fun. Our group went to play pickle ball and the 4 courts are clean and well maintained. They are lit early in the evening. The first few days there was cold water available in a large thermos but this stopped being refilled in the middle of the week. After many trips to the front desk cases of water bottles were provided but were not cold and left in the sun. The food I would give a 5. This is a resort that could be one of the best but the food management needs a lot of work. The breakfast buffet is good with lots of choice although service was slow at times. Another cook station for omelets is needed although the woman who was cooking there was excellent. The restaurants run hot and cold. One night the food was poor and the next everything was delicious. There appears to be a need for a kitchen manager in the restaurants since the slow service appears to originate there. Also the wait staff, who were all very good with great personality and attitude were also having to bus tables, clean spills etc. The nighttime activities are not very exciting. The resort could take a cue from Pineapple (sister resort across the the road) which had more activities all day and a livelier nighttime experience. Many activity areas are underutilized and would be fun such as the area where the mini golf, pool and ping pong are. Possibly more staff needed in this area. As mentioned earlier, the resort is large with many hills. There are golf carts to drive you around. This service decreased as the week went on and we often waited awhile or just walked. This may be due to few staff or carts themselves. Overall a beautiful resort with just a few issues that if corrected would make this a solid 5 star resort.

Pros : beautiful setting; large, quiet and extremely comfy accommodation - we had a view of the sea but it really wouldn’t matter if you didn’t; food pretty good; loved Sails & Tales in the day - what a view; lots of space; main pool is huge; two beaches - with the main one being the best (beautiful but see note below!); friendly staff who do their best; some variety in where to eat - try the Outlook over at the Pineapple; relaxed vibe; fantastic local catamaran trip - deffo do that for a morning Cons: loud loud music round the pool; having to get up early to book ahead for restaurants; Pineapple is not as nice (positively hostile server at the Italian over there!!) ; hard to get a change of beach towel; long queues for drinks on the beach and especially for coffees (ie 30 mins easily for a coffee in the morning); very limited evening entertainment - mainly a bit of Spotify and a karaoke machine. Worst bit in the end was the building works starting immediately behind the main beach - we had two diggers on the go ALL day for our last few days :/. No idea how long that’ll go on for. Saying all that, we had a lovely time overall. The pros outweighed the cons. The cons are things they certainly could fix!

Dear Jane, Thank you immensely for sharing such thoughtful and detailed feedback about your recent stay with us. We're truly heartened to hear about the moments that stood out for you, from the tranquil beauty of our surroundings and the cozy comfort of your sea-view accommodations to the delightful dining experiences and the genuine warmth of our team. Learning that the catamaran trip was a highlight and that you enjoyed the laid-back ambiance of our resort fills us with joy, as these are the very experiences we strive to create for our guests. We deeply value your constructive insights and assure you we take immediate and thoughtful action. Regarding the pool music, we are introducing new guidelines to ensure the volume contributes positively to the overall atmosphere, enhancing the serene experience we wish for all our guests. We're also revisiting our restaurant reservation process to make it more seamless and guest-oriented, ensuring every interaction within our resort reflects the high standard of hospitality we're committed to. We sincerely apologize for the less-than-ideal service you encountered at Pineapple. This does not reflect our values, and we are taking specific steps to ensure all team members deliver the kind, professional service you deserve. Additionally, we're implementing improvements to our beach towel service and refreshment delivery to significantly reduce wait times, ensuring these services enhance your stay without unnecessary delays. The construction activities near the main beach are a concern we take very seriously. We extend our heartfelt apologies for any disturbance this caused. We are actively working on better communicating any ongoing developments to our guests and taking measures to minimize any impact on your serene beach experience. Jane, your feedback is precious to us and instrumental in our ongoing efforts to enhance every aspect of the guest experience. We are committed to not only addressing the concerns you've raised but also exceeding your expectations in the future. We hope the positive aspects of your stay will inspire you to revisit us. We look forward to the opportunity to welcome you back to a setting where tranquility and polished hospitality create the perfect paradise for your next getaway. Warmest regards, The Verandah

We returned to The Verandah expecting a different experience after its conversion to adults only and we weren't disappointed. The investment has been huge and it now offers many more facilities. The grounds remain fabulous, teeming with wildlife and are so large that despite having 100% occupancy during our stay, it never felt busy. Some days we had the waterfall pool to ourselves. There are now 5 bars and eateries plus a great coffee shop with cakes and snacks. The food was consistently good everywhere and the menus varied enough to keep us satisfied for 2 weeks. The food in Portofinos was particularly good. Best of all, the resort now has an on site brewery producing draught IPA, lager and stout! Rasta Beach is quiet and has a much improved menu for lunch and an impressive new pool. It's a resort environmental policy not to use bottled water and drinking water is readily available from all the bars to refill your containers. The restaurant booking system returned to 2 days ahead by our second week. We booked around breakfast time and never had any real difficulties. We didn't enjoy the loud music at the main pool and beach but it stopped in our 2nd week. The staff were, without exception, charming and worked very hard. Many were very young and inexperienced and clearly nervous but we were happy to make allowances for that. Treat them with kindness and respect and it will pay dividends (we had lots of hugs when we left). Having said that, the resort is understaffed and that put pressure on the system which didn't always cope. Management are working hard on recruitment. Would we go back? Definitely. Embrace everything the resort has to offer and you'll have a great time.

Kimberly W White My mom and I stayed at The Verandah Resort and Spa from December 1-10, 2023, where I celebrated a milestone birthday on December 4th. It was amazing! I have so many employees to thank who made our vacation so memorable. Starting with Tehron, who made sure we got the right room, Sir Rob Barrett, who very kindly made sure we were comfortable, Marco and his wife, who were just lovely neighbors, Gem, the activities director, Theodore, a very kind server and all around good guy, Rohan - the super DJ and entertainment director, and a host of other employees that I have to mention: Tanya (great coffee!), Shelley, Anneisha, Deneka, Ayshah, Kayla, Christiel, Shawn, Courtney, Leon, Lindel, Sameitha, Algenald (best gin-based drink I ever had), Clesa, Tristan, Emely, Reynaldo. My apologies to anyone I’ve forgotten to mention, chalk it up to old age! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

We spent nine days here and had a wonderful time!! Beautiful grounds and an even better staff. The drivers, the waiter/waitresses at the Seabreeze, the cleaning staff for our room and the bartenders in particular were the best of the best!! Our room was among the nicest, if not the nicest that we have stayed at (this was our 24th resort trip). It was clean and the walk in shower was immaculate. One thing that was only mentioned maybe in the most recent review was that guests of the Verandah can access the restaurants at the Pineapple Resort. We tried Chef Pietro's at the Pineapple on our last night and it was great. At the Verandah, we enjoyed Portofinos and Sails and Tales for three of our dinners. Nicole's however, was not worth the upcharge. We did a dinner of light snacks at the Wavy Wicket one night. Shout out the man in charge there who was working the bar and was very accommodating with our food order!! We honestly never had an issue with the reservation system for the restaurants. It just took a few minutes before or after breakfast to stop into guest services on two days and we were fine with dinners. For lunch, it was Sails and Tales, the Rasta Bar or Papa Ricos which being native metro New Yorkers, compares favorably with NY Pizza!! We actually enjoyed sitting outside on the warm nights after dinner and taking in the poolside musical performances. Unfortunately, in the times we live in, the music played most everywhere such as sports venues, weddings, etc is way too loud for us anyway so the complaints from those with rooms near the pool were understandable. We accessed the beach at the Pineapple for most of our beach days. The Pineapple had some decent snorkeling at a public beach off to the right of the resort. I tried to swim out from Lovers Beach at the Verandah to a reef past Hammock Cove that I was told had some fish to see. Yes, I did see some fish but it was not worth the exhausting swim!! The beach at Rasta was quiet. We went in the water for a brief swim but that was about it. The beach towels were a minor issue for us. We had to hold onto ours for maybe one day but we did manage to get them on the other days (right spot at the right time!!). All in all, we had a great time and would highly recommend the Verandah for a most relaxing vacation!!

It's lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay with us at the Verandah, surrounded by our beautiful grounds and cared for by our exceptional staff. Your 24th resort trip being one of the best is a huge compliment, and we're delighted that your room and its amenities, including the walk-in shower, were to your liking. Exploring the culinary delights at both the Verandah and Pineapple Resort, especially Chef Pietro's, sounds like a delightful adventure. We're glad that the dining experiences at Portofinos and Sails and Tales were highlights of your stay, and we appreciate your feedback on Nicole's. Your kind words about our accommodating staff, especially at the Wavy Wicket, mean the world to us, and it's great to hear that our reservation system worked seamlessly for you. Enjoying New York-style pizza at Papa Ricos and the poolside musical performances under the warm night sky sounds enchanting. We understand the challenges of finding the right volume for music in communal areas and appreciate your understanding. It's delightful that you found tranquility at Rasta Beach and had adventurous swims, even if some were more challenging than anticipated. We're sorry to hear about the minor inconvenience with the beach towels; we are glad it didn't detract from your overall experience. Thank you for recommending the Verandah for a relaxing vacation. We look forward to welcoming you back for another wonderful stay!

My experience at the verandah was average. I will list the areas in which they need improvement first. First beach towel availability. Absolutely horrible. Always waited for them. Buffet food was average. Usually warm and not very flavorful. Staff at the buffet, cafe, and restaurants were average. Waited for water on many occasions. The main food manager needs to learn how to engage people. Hunter was not very help getting us into the restaurants you need to make reservations for. Those restaurants were never near capacity. Also, the lunch options were not tailored for all inclusive. 30 minute wait for burgers and pizza. At least the pizza was decent. There were never any drinks in our room except for the first two bottles of water. After that I had to ask for more water and took 12 hours to get. Now on to the things I liked. Sam, the activities coordinator was the best thing there. Great attitude, energy was off the charts, and took time to get to know you. Lisa, the other coordinator was very engaged as well. These two should run the place! The two bartenders were great. They made very good drinks and always smiled. Had a blast with them. The place was clean, the rooms, grounds, and beaches. The views from the room were excellent. House keeping did a great job. Overall the place could use some refinement in its food and all inclusive atmosphere. I am used to having people come by and ask me for food and drinks and that never happened once at this place. I did enjoy the atmosphere and tranquility of this wonderful island spot. They just reopened so I will give them the benefit of doubt. Hopefully they listen to their reviews and work on the areas that many of us have spoken about.
