The staff was very friendly and accommodating, the water was amazing and the best pretty blue. The people are very friendly, but when we came over to Jolly beach resort some of the staff over there had an attittude and they are arguing with the guests, I go back to tranquility bay but not going at Jolly Beach resort

Beautiful beach!!!!!! with calmed, endless turquoise waters, however the most crowded and touristic of all beaches that we visited. The harbour is a great place to shop and dine or just grab a coffee.

We visited in November. Weather was perfect 85-90 degrees all week. Rooms were average, I read some bad reviews but I think maybe some of those folks wouldn't be happy at Trump towers. We have come to Tranquility again having been here two years ago. I had noticed some poor reviews before returning but found them to be unfounded. Yes as everyone else said the taxi stand is right outside customs and it is $25 per couple for the taxi to tranquility bay. It is in a small van and some are definitely nicer than others, but you don't really get a choice. Tranquility bay does not provide or help with airport transportation. It takes about 25 to 30 minutes to get there. Also while your at the resort there is a gulf cart that helps you get to your room and restaurants around the harbor, outside of the resort. Those restaurants are great especially a place called Mayday. One more hint, instead of taking a taxi anywhere just ask where the bus stop is. The bus is also and small van just like the taxi and goes just as fast into the towns, but the taxi will cost you about $40 and the bus costs you $3 per person, you just have to make a few more stops.

Sorry it took me so long to answer but I was away again. Yes I think it is kids friendly and the beach is very pretty. It is not like a lot of other places with tons of stuff to do. It is pretty laid back. We rented a dune buggy type tying and went all over the island and had no problem except that the stick was on the wrong side and we were driving one the wrong side. It was a bit hairy at night as the lights were not great. Never really found a downtown, just lots of little restaurants and bars. Very enjoyable but not a party hotel.

I see you are from Florida, so after having spent a lot of time in that State, I woud say that the resort is pretty comparable with accomadations in Florida built around the late 70s or 80s.

The two bedroom appartments provided ample space for a family of 4 - but you might find the furniture as comfortabe as it looks, though the beds are fine.

The grounds of the complex do need some sprucing up - though this did not deter from my enjoyment of the complex. You have to remember that this is Antigua and outside the resort is pretty much the same. Yes some 5* hotels do have more exotic gardens etc but then you are paying a lot more.

Everyone raves about the beach here, which in my honest opinion is overrated. There is not much sand here, just a long stretch of beach with little to make it tropical but by no means unpleasant. There are no facilities on the beach, and there are many hawkers hanging around trying to sell you trips, water sports or recreational drugs for all methods of consumption. Not all the hawkers are trustworthy for trips, 100% of the time. Most of the hawkers also act as taxi drivers, and depending on their drug usage for that day means whether they can drive the taxi or not. You may or may not receive a refund of any deposit you may have paid.

The local harbour area is well wort a visit, but again rather low key with high prices to match SoBe ! Most of the restaurants are not worthy of a repeat visit, but then there are not many to choose from.

I enjoyed my stay in TB, and used the pool at JBR, and spent plenty of time at the 'private' beach area, where the tourists from the cruise ships go and you have to pay for the private sun beds and umbrellas. (These are not owned by TB or JBR), and I found this area of the beach more to my liking but again not very tropical (I admit I have been spoilt by being well travelled).

Antigua is stil relatively poor even though the very rich have homes here. It is more downmarket than say Barbados, and perhaps not as friendly. The locals do tend to prefer the British more than other nationals, followe by Canadians - perhaps it's to do with the ties it has with the British empire ? That said, the locals rip everyone off regardless, and show no favouritism in this respect.

I am not a fan of constant reggae music or steel band music, since I prefer a more Latin American vibe. After spending time in Aruba over the last 16 years, Antigua came as bit of a shock - like being in a third world country.

Depending on when you go, there are problem with mosquitos and sand. Some people tend to be bitten more than other even when wearing repellent.

The new airport is stil under contruction. The old one can hardly cope with more than two planes at a time. Transportation is very expensive - unless you get the local bus. Even short trips lasting no more than 5 mins can cost upto USD 50 (there and back) and don't think that by inviting more people to join you will make the fare cheaper ! You will pay more.

I would suggest that those who love this place, never leave TB except to buy food in the supermarket 5 mins away and eat in every day, and do no trips around the island.

One trip I would recommend is the Circumnavigation tour of the island by catamaran, so that you can see that Antigua is pretty much the same no matter what resort you are in.

If you have any doubt, don't go and try somewhere else. Try Cape Verde or the Canary Islands for something different, or try further afield with South East Asia. These places really do know what beaches are and how to attract tourists,

As others have said, they are right next store. However, we walked 1/2 mile over to the grocery store and cooked about half of our meals, eating the other half at the beach restaurant or at one of the restaurants near the grocery store in the marina. We bought rum and beer in the grocery. We estimate that we spent about 1/3 as much as we would have all-inclusive.

Hi there..there are barbeque grills available for the use of our guests, coals, lighter fuel can be purchased from the Epicurean supermarket next door in the Jolly Harbour Marina.

There are several eating spots nearby, the ones in the Marina are within walking distance such as AlPortos, Melini, Castaways, Firehouse Grill and Crows Nest to name a few. There are also some that are within a 5-7 minuite cab ride such as O'Jays, Jackie O's, Turners and Denis's. In St. John's there are several places to eat Hemmingways, C&C Wine Bar, Big Banana and Cafe Napoleon.

You can get a complete list from our Front Desk along with the contact information.
