This resort is fabulous. Our room was huge and pristine with all desired features. The main pool area is wonderful. We went in November so low season which meant it was pretty quiet all the time. The beach is wonderful as it's private and peaceful. The spa area includes a gym which was just right for a bit of daily exercise. The seafood BBQ buffet and breakfast buffet were out of this world! I couldn't stop taking photos! The excursion was good but a little hard to organise so I'd ask a lot of questions before embarking on this. We took a taxi into the night market one evening which I would recommend as well. The service is wonderful and all staff are more than happy to help you at any time. Beautiful experience which I'd highly recommend!
We had a very enjoyable stay at this hotel on Mar 22, 23, 24, 25. The hotel is located about 20 minutes taxi ride away from the International airport (please note, on the maps the old airport is much closer but this is now closed). When you turn off the main road, you drive down a long tree-lined road to get to the hotel itself. It means that the hotel is quite isolated - which is a good thing in many ways but also meant it took me 20 minutes to walk back to the main road to buy some water and snacks. If you decide to eat elsewhere at night, you need to get a taxi. Reception will be happy to book one for you and they are very cheap. We stayed in a 'Premium Deluxe Ocean View' room and it was the best room I've ever stayed in. A large double-bed and bath were in the middle of the room with lounge areas either side, a bathroom and a wet-room. There was also a big balcony overlooking the pool. The decor is very stylish and modern and the place is immaculately clean. The pool is nicely designed with its own bar and the private beach is excellent, right in front of the hotel. Before the trip I'd done a lot of research on beaches and I was very pleased with where we'd chosen. The sand was good quality and it was a pretty place to spend time. There is a small beach bar and the Jasmine Iced Tea is recommended! The only negative was that the water had some litter in from the fishing boats up shore. The food at the restaurant was excellent. We ate there every night and my only complaint is that there could have been a few more local style dishes to choose from. But the food was tasty and very well presented. The breakfast buffet was excellent too. On the first night there was an good three piece Filipino band singing cover versions. They asked for requests but before I had chance to ask for the Beatles, they played 'Let It Be' next song! My stay at The Shells coincided with the coronavirus pandemic, so it was very quiet with only 10 rooms taken. As a result the restaurant, beach and pool area were always very quiet. Furthermore some of the facilities were closed. But the place was still well staffed and the service was excellent with lots of smiles. I would certainly recommend this hotel for the wow factor.…
We stayed in this place for 5 nights. If you want to stay close to other travel spots you better go to different place as The Shells located minimum 15 min by taxi to anywhere. Btw, taxi is very cheap and drivers do not speak English. Villa (where we stayed) was large, with nice decor and very clean. Breakfast was pretty good with combination of Western & Asian food. The food in the restaurant in general was good, but too simple and overpriced (we had lunch and dinner there a couple of times). The resort comprises a private beach and 2 swimming pools, both have a bar. Both bars were closed over our stay, no music during the day. I do understand that due to lack of people, the resort had to reduce staff, but if you position yourself as 5 star hotel, this is not acceptable. At night, there were very good live music by band including 2 Vietnamese girls signing international songs Most of the resort's staff including waitresses do not speak simple english. Overall, it was a good stay, but there were some things which we would expect from 5 start hotel do not exist there. …
We have stayed at the resort for 5 nights. Unfortunately, staff was not attentive and in some cases rude. They do not speak English well and it was impossible to communicate. We had difficulties ordering food at the resort restaurant that's not to mention room service. We had requested an iron and after 5 days asking the reception staff we still were unable to get it. The beach was very dirty with plastic bags, bottles and other rubbish floating in the water. The water was muddy and unclean. Althouh it claims to be a 5 star resort, this is not tge case. Unfortunately we cannot recommend this place.
Have just returned from a lovely holiday here. I was extremely happy with the location , beautiful well kept grounds and although a small but adequate beach with plenty of sun beds at anytime of the day . This hotel was off the beaten track so taxis and scooters essential , but main town only 15 mins and also left out of the resort is ole Lang which had some good reasonably priced restarants which is even nearer . Taxis are very cheap . The rooms are spacious we had an ocean view in main building , but the villas looked just as nice . We did have to pay extra to upgrade tho . The only issues I had were that this hotel lacked atmosphere , the bonus was free cocktail hour Tues to Sunday 18.15 pm to 19.00 but after the 2 nd day all the chairs were removed , and the stage for the band moved in front of the restaurant , so if you weren’t eating there wasn’t anywhere to sit , people were scattered about on sun beds and sat on walls , not great for a 5 star hotel . The lounge bar and swim up bar were closed for the full 12 days I was there . Communication is also difficult very little English understood by some staff , and also the food and drink is overpriced compared to everywhere else , all this does not encourage guests to stay in the hotel , hence lack of atmosphere . I had a lovely stay but to be honest compared to accommodation I have stayed in across Asia this was below par for me . I think if they are to continue to encourage European guests that have to look at the service they offer . Probably will not go back …
