While on our Vantage River Cruise, we sailed by this castle on the Rhine River that sits above the town of Kaub. From our vantage point we definitely had a great view of this castle sitting high above the river. I had to find out a bit more about it. It is also known as Caub Castle and was built...

This review will have some cob webs on it as my visit there was back in 1999. I would say the this property is not a full service luxury hotel. Its place in history makes it great. The owner is a delightful woman who once she warmed up to us was very pleasant. At first a little cold but in...

In 2001 when the Rhine flooded we spent two nights here. We had a car so it was not so bad. We only ate once at the hotel and it was only us in that large dining area and we had cold cuts and overcharged. No problem, a very nice German restaurant down the street, but of course at the...

Beware of so called "romantic castle hotels" This castle hotel had no warm running water, and no assistance or staff around to help you when needed. Furthermore, there were no taxi service in town, and you had to walk up a mountain and down again to get into the town which was really a real downer as far as Rhine...

Not impressed on arriving. Road to castle in poor condition and a nightmare to drive. Reception was cold at best. The room was not worth the money charged, large enough but rather smelly. The dining room was totally empty at dinner time and upon examining the menu (no prices listed) we determined it to be mostly coldcuts. Upon retiring for...

We stayed for 2 nights in this castle in a small town on the Rhine. The castle was a strenuous hike with luggage from the tiny train station. The site is wonderful; the buildings, from the 12-15th centuries, are "very cool" per the kids, and it looks down on the Pfalzgrafenstein castle in the middle of the river. However. We...

Travelers Beware! We just returned from a trip to Germany where we stayed two nights at Sclosshotel Burg Gutenfels, a renovated castle overlooking the Rhine. Below, in the middle of the Rhine, there is another castle where medieval nobility once extorted tolls from barge traffic. That former practice of ripping off travellers has now moved up the hill to Schlosshotel...

“I don't remember the room number but it was a family room facing the Rhine, the views were amazing and the furnishings certainly appropriate for a thousand year old castle.”
