We stayed here as a couple for 7 nights in September 2021. Previous reports have suggested that the hotel is looking tired. Possibly it needs a lick of paint in a few places but we thought the room was very good, light, airy and spotlessly clean. All rooms face the sea so you are assured of a stunning view from your balcony or terrace. The lounge, bar and pool areas were also very nice. Yes, possibly a little “old fashioned” but that is usually the way in the Caribbean and adds to the charm. If you want a brand new looking hotel, then you need to go to somewhere plastic, like Las Vegas. Another reviewer posted that the hotel should be avoided because of the COVID precautions. In fact, we had no such problems. Being both fully vaccinated, we took the arrival test on landing in Barbados (the test is free at the airport) and then simply were confined to the grounds of the hotel (ie. our room and balcony, the pool and the restaurant areas) until we received a negative result about 36 hours later. The only no go area during this time was the beach. Only non-vaccinated persons have to quarantine in their room for the first 5 days. The hotel also offers an expedited arrival process at the airport whereby a Fairmont representative will meet you from the aircraft and facilitate your egress to the front of the queue through the immigration and COVID testing procedures. This needs to be booked in advance with the hotel but is well worth arranging as it allowed us to beat a very long queue of hundreds of people waiting to be tested. Breakfast was plentiful and of good quality, taken in the open air restaurant. The only negative was that breakfast service was patchy. Some days, they’d forget to bring your pastries and fruit plate. Other days, they got the order wrong. Most of the breakfast staff were friendly, a couple were less so. This really is the only area where I think they need to improve. The drinks were expensive at the hotel - £5 or £6 for a soft drink in the restaurant and the pool. But this is what you would expect for an international brand hotel, especially so in a place like Barbados where pretty much everything is more expensive than its equivalent in the U.K. The housekeeping staff and pool attendants were, without exception, warm, helpful and friendly. I gave the housekeeper a tip at the end of our stay, which I know she appreciated. Some reviewers have commented previously that hotel staff and the local people were unfriendly. With the very odd exception, we did not find this to be the case. Everyone smiled and said good morning or good afternoon. I have to say that, if you treat hotel staff without manners and courtesy, then you cannot expect them to go out of their way to help you. We observed a minority of British guests speaking to hotel staff and waiting staff in restaurants in a way which suggested they viewed them as their “servants”. One should not be surprised if one does not get the service one expects if one doesn’t have the basic manners to say please and thank you. I’m always embarrassed to be British when I see some ignorant Brit who seems not to understand that having a few basic manners goes a long way. Overall, we thought this hotel was very good and we would return in the future.

It was the perfect getaway: an oasis of tranquility. Wonderful location on the West Coast. Every bedroom faces the sea which is yards away. Great pool and bar. Loungers on the beach and a floating dive platform. Great staff, friendly and professional. Good food. The perfect relaxing holiday.

A fantastic hotel with the added benefit of being a government approved Covid one. The hotel had only one of the two accommodation blocks open. This meant less people and more of a personal touch. Nathan, Michael, Shane and the boys in charge of the pool and sunbeds are amazing. Tending to your every need. The Butlers offered superb attentive service especially if you have afternoon tea, We had on our deck most days. The reception staff were helpful and nothing was too much bother. The stuff in the restaurant were polite and offered great service. Personally I thought the food could have been better. Due to Covid and the lack of people there, the menu wasn’t as extensive as it could have been. The pool bar closed at 6pm which left no place to have a drink outside, apart from in the restaurant. Again Covid staffing levels. Woody who pilots the boat is well worth the money, to take you out and shows you some of the amazing houses on the coast. All in all an amazing holiday in a paradise with great views. Best rooms are the Beach suites, as you have a deck that then goes out to the beach. Best is to get out to the local town to experience the local restaurants etc.

When we arrived at the hotel, the GM told us that they did not have our level of room available. Due to a double booking, he told us that we could have a downgraded room for the next three days and then he could move us back to the level of room that we reserved. He was able to get us in after two days, but it was not a great start to our time at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion. Sadly, the level of service was also spotty. There were some highlights and some of the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, but it seemed that they did not have proper staffing of the restaurant, pool, or deck area. Additionally, the hotel bar was not fully stocked in the evenings, the tennis courts were not properly kept up, even the tropical plants around the resort didn't seem to be maintained. The resort is beautifully located and the rooms are right on the beach. We stayed here 7 years ago and everything was just perfect. I hope they invest some funds in the hotel and improve the management and staffing issues.

We stayed at the Fairmont 5 years ago and enjoyed it just as much this time. We paid for a COVID test in our room which came back the next morning which meant we could make the most of our time. We felt very safe as masks are to be worn at all times and there was sanitiser readily available, as well as temperature checks in the restaurant. The rooms have been refurbished and are light, modern and well equipped. You never get tired of the view from the balcony which is stunning. Shelly on the front desk was so helpful, along with Peter & Edwin, concierge. I agree with a previous comment that there could be more variety with the restaurant menu but other than that the food was very good, breakfasts were amazing. Ryan at the beach club is fantastic, so friendly and knowledgeable - seek him or Sherlock out for water sports, he organised a swimming with turtles trip for us with Rosco which was fabulous. We also had a trip on the hobie cat and paddlebaord. The Sea Shed at Mullins Bay was amazing, as was the Beach House in Holetown. Taxis wait outside reception to take you wherever you want and often will give you a card so the restaurant can call them to take you back to the hotel. Looking forward to going back in the future.
