Bougainvillea Barbados is often applauded for its attentive and friendly staff, creating a welcoming atmosphere with live music and cozy rooms. Its prime location near beaches and attractions, along with amenities like beachfront access, pools, and well-equipped rooms, are highly praised.
Although the hotel maintains a peaceful environment, with evening entertainment ending early, some guests note the rooms could be quieter and more modern. Opinions on value vary, but the hotel's cleanliness is consistently celebrated.

Detailed Reviews
Our family of six adults and two small children spent a relaxing family vacation at the Bougainvillea for 6 days. The property is impeccably maintained and there is always security personnel on duty. My husband and I stayed in a Junior Suite with a kitchenette, which came in handy since this is not an all inclusive resort. Continental or full service breakfast is provided at a cost, but we found that the complimentary shuttle to a nearby grocery store adequately provided us with coffee, snacks, and breakfast foods. The Concierge service was exceptional. Every person working the desk was gracious, knowledgeable, efficient in scheduling drivers, tours, a fishing trip, and massages at their Karma Spa. They also scheduled a professional photographer to take some family photos during our stay. For some locally prepared food, a food truck comes to the front of the resort each day. Operated by a gentleman who told us his food was prepared with love, how could one resist his tempting and reasonably priced food?

We travelled with Kuoni who arranged private transfers to this resort and arranged our car hire for us when we wanted to tour the island. Here for two weeks,we found it useful to have both American Dollars and Bajan Dollars. Both currencies are welcome but if you want to use the local buses then Bajan Dollars are handy. We stayed in a junior suite on a room only basis. For us this was an excellent choice as we wished to be flexible to eat out when we wished. The junior suite for the two of us was a lovely comfortable room (enormous comfortable bed) and because it had a useful kitchenette we were able to eat breakfast in the suite on the balcony looking out to sea.The beach here is beautifully clean and much wider that further up the west coast in areas like Mullins Beach. The staff were friendly, attentive and very helpful. The hotel provides beach towels and dressing gowns and extras like 'The White Company' toiletries in the room and chocolates on Valentine's Night. Evening musical events were varied and the Calabash and Siam restaurant menus and food were good. This resort is not too far from the airport and also convenient for a short taxi ride to Oistins Fish Fry or St Lawrence Gap for bars and restaurants. All in all we would recommend this hotel for its location, its comfort and beautiful beach.

We are about to leave the Bougainvillea and head off home tomorrow after a lovely week in the sun.
Set on Maxwell beach ,this hotel enjoys a great position and because it is not a sprawling hotel, like Sandals next door, it is intimate and offers good levels of services with well kept grounds.
The rooms are of a good standard but for some reason hey don’t provide a dressing table for the ladies which surely is a must?
Some lovely touches like cold flannels are provided on the beach and they like to go the extra mile if you are celebrating something like a birthday.
Evening entertainment is of a great standard( especially the girl singers Virgo).
Most of the staff are very friendly but Sue ,the customer relation team leader and her team (who are great) need to tell Donna and Gregory to smile a bit more ..the other house keeping ,bar, waiting and front of house staff do.
Food in Siam is really good but not so in the Calabash restaurant where you can wait for up to half an hour for what is mediocre food.
Happy hour at the swim up pool bar is a bit early at 3.30pm but they do good cocktails.
The junior suites have a kitchen so you can make your own basic meals if you want to, but note due to the lack of some basic utensils i.e a chopping board or a sieve...it would have to be basic.
It is only 5 minutes in a taxi to St Lawrence Gap and half an hour to the airport.
Overall, it is a good hotel but just needs some basic improvements and we would go back no problem.

We have just returned from a 10 day stay at this Beautiful Hotel where the rooms were spacious and clean, and the staff extremely friendly.
From the minute we arrived we were met with warm and friendly reception staff who answered every question with a smile.
We had a junior suite with a view of the pool and the beach, it had a nice seating area and a good sized patio/balcony to sit on while listening to the sounds of the Caribbean sea or the music from the entertainment at night.
Our rooms and towels were cleaned and changed daily, and again staff were very friendly and polite..
We chose continental style breakfast with a lovely fresh supply of fruit, yogurt, cereal, cold meat, pastries and plenty of tea and coffee..
The buffet in the Calabash restaurant was lovely and we would have enjoyed a few more buffet nights.
The beach was fabulous with lots of room and no rush to book sunbeds as there were plenty available, a real bonus!. My husband made good use of the watersports on offer and this really made his holiday. Thank you to the staff who were very helpful. The grounds around the hotel were immaculate and you would often see staff clearing up leaves and ( bougainvillea )petals.
We would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to return in the not too distant future.

Completely unplanned, as there was a mix up at our other resort and so we had to research the best nearby deal for an overnight stay! However we were quite impressed with Bougainvillea, despite an extraordinarily long check in process due to the reservations team not being onsite when we arrived around 7pm (as we had only booked an hour prior), which is something that should be improved.
The rooms must have been recently refurbished as they were really modern, clean and nicely laid out, they even had White Company products for us to use which we were amazed at! The hotel is very quiet, not that many rooms which makes it quite peaceful and all rooms have some sort of a sea view and a balcony/terrace which was beautiful to wake up to and a sight to behold. It has a beautiful location, being set directly on a lovely stretch of beach. However it's worth noting there were no lifts and so being on level 3 with heavy luggage made it fun as we were with our parents and so level 3 wouldn't have been that practical for them longer term. The beds were large and super comfy, however we must admit to being disappointed that there were no basic tea/coffee provision within the room itself.
We had dinner at their basic restaurant Calabash, which was a bit disappointing as the food served wasn't that great and the service was extremely cold to begin with (we felt that we were a nuisance to the waiting staff!), however after a bit of warming up and us making lots of effort to become friends, the service did improve.
All in all, Bougainvillea was a lovely last minute find and it would have been lovely to have enjoyed a longer stay, and even a cocktail in the pool bar!

My husband and I stayed at this wonderful hotel for 10 nights with our 9 month old. The view from the room is absolutely breathtaking and the rooms are all a great size and overlooking the sea which is amazing to wake up to. We stayed in a room on the 2nd floor so only had to carry the pram down one set of stairs (note that they don't have a lift / elevator) and the room came equipped with a kitchenette that has a kettle, microwave, toaster, coffee machine and hob and more. The hotel provided a cot and highchair free of charge which was really appreciated as it meant we could feed our baby on the balcony each day.
The pool area is lovely and well looked after. There were always sunbeds available so we didn't have to get up super early to get one. There is a towel hut on the beach where you can get a fresh beach towel and the guys working there were friendly.
Location wise, we found it useful having a car as it is about a 25 minute walk (road route) to the bars and restaurants of St Lawrence gap. There was plenty of free parking at the hotel though so this was not an issue.
Overall we thought that this was a great hotel and we would come back.

We stayed for 2 weeks at this hotel. We have a 20 month old baby. Our room was on the ground floor (ideal as no lifts and not ideal with a pram). We had a nice patio/terrace steps away from the pool and beach which was fab. As I could keep my eye on Grace as she napped in the room. We had a small kitchen which was great as we ate some lunches and dinner on our terrace. There are lots of supermarkets/shops near by although very expensive compared to UK prices.
The Thai restaurant was absolutely fantastic. Some of the best Thai food we have ever eaten and restaurant was on the beach which was lovely.
The hotel has beautiful grounds/plant/flowers and was clean. I thought our room could have been cleaner. The cleaners did come every day and even cleaned up unwashed dishes etc. But I felt the bathrooms and sides weren't kept as clean as I would have liked.
The hotel was very relaxing and was chilled. Lots of returning older guests who had been coming for 15 years or more.
The other side of the hotel has plans of being demolished so it was empty and a bit spooky not being used...
most of the staff were good. Nickolas on the pool bar is such a lovely young man who was so friendly and good to our daughter.

We have just stayed at Bougainvillea for a week and have to say the people who work there are absolutely lovely - efficient, friendly and welcoming. The grounds are pretty and well kept, the rooms are clean and modern - we had great views of the beach and pool but worth noting there are no lifts. There is a pool bar and two restaurants on site where the service is very good, the food at the Calabash cafe was great, whilst I would say the food at the Siam Thai restuarant was average. Location is good, pretty much halfway between St Lawrence Gap with several bars and restaurants and Oistins (Friday night fish fry) - both are around a 20 minute walk away or 10 minutes in a cab (which we found to be sensibly priced). The one and only thing that I would change about this hotel is the sunbed situation....... let's just say there is a certain clientele who would get up before 6am to reserve their bed by the pretty family pool, to be fair some of them would be on their beds all day but at the other extreme others would turn up at 2pm. Meanwhile families with young children would arrive at 7.30am and find no place by the pool which must have been disappointing for them as the sea is pretty wavy and not suitable for young children. We're a middle aged couple with no kids so we went to the beach every day and swam in the sea, but I did feel for the families who really wanted to relax by the kids pool. The hotel management really need to sort that out.

Stayed for a week in this lovely hotel. I could not fault it for anything. Thanks to all the staff but particularly Cory for taking me sailing on the hotel Hobie, the cleaners, bar staff (Jose of course needs a special mention), gardeners, security, reception staff and the waitresses in both restaurants who incidentally serve wonderful food. Everyone always wears a smile. All contribute to a family feel and a real sense of pride in what they do. We will be back

We have stayed in many different locations in Barbados & friends recommended the Bougainvillea. This is a great hotel in a secluded setting, ideal for a peaceful holiday. The staff were excellent, as were the reception, concierge and room staff. The room was upgraded to a lovely one bed de lux suite , so spacious & a kitchen too. We were on the third floor which was ok as we are both good walkers as no lift. The view was spectacular down to the beautiful colourful gardens , pool bar and the beach/sea.Sadly the sea is rough here so unless you are a strong swimmer it’s not recommended, furthermore the hotel water sport opportunities were limited due to the turbulent sea.
The two restaurants Calabash Cafe for all day meals and the Siam , good selection of Asian dishes are both good.Pool bar was popular with swim up stools, however Happy Hour at 3.30 is deffo too early and I would recommend this to start an hour later, oh and to include Pina Colada’s as every other bar offers them so it seemed penny(dollar 😂) pinching.
A shame that there are few restaurants nearby meaning that we had to walk or get a Reggie bus to areas like St Lawrence Gap or Hastings where there are many great bars & restaurants.
Perhaps a hotel shuttle to the local restaurants would be a nice option. At the managers cocktail party we met other guests , the bbq following was poor and expensive, then by 9.30 pm most guests had disappeared.r
Seems that few people stay at the hotel bar / restaurants at night even when there is a singer , it was dead most nights both at 7 pm and 10 pm when usually guests mingle and enjoy a drink or two, a great shame, maybe another happy would help improve this situation.
Whilst we did really enjoy this hotel, beach and setting for our next trip it would be preferable to stay where the water sports can be enjoyed and their are more local bars and restaurants.

Hello Ebrahim, thank you for choosing us here at Bougainvillea Barbados.
Our onsite restaurant Calabash Beach Bistro serves breakfast along with some close by options. It's approximately 3-minute walk to the nearest bus stop for local transportation. The nearest supermarket is 5 minutes by car. I believe your last question was not finished. you can reach out to us directly.
It's open in the evenings, along with restaurants onsite...but they're not a late night bar.
Hi. The apartment had a huge fridge. The Housekeeping staff very helpful. If you need anything they can usually ‘deliver’.
We had a lovely room with a view of the sea and pool on the 2nd floor.
