Detailed Reviews
The Bahnhof Hotel in the nondescript town of Aus is an OK stop on the way to or from Luderitz, maybe better for lunch than an overnight stay. The high-ceilinged rooms are spacious but are furnished with only the bare essentials and feel Spartan and cold in September. There is, however, a heater in the corner. There is a bed, side tables, desk and luggage bench, but no storage, hanging or otherwise, for your belongings and no safe. It’s as if you are not meant to unpack. The bathroom is equally large and empty with no counter space. There is a bench in the corner for towels. There was no shower gel or other soap for the shower and no hair dryer. The bed is comfortable with two twins fitted together to make a king, the gap barely noticeable.
They do a turn down service with a sweet waiting on your pillow when you return from dinner.
The hotel has a comfortable bar and outside veranda with plenty of seating. The menu has a fairly extensive selection of international classics.

Thank you for your valuable feedback: there are hanging facilities fitted on the wall in each room with 6 hangers, A hair dryer as well as a safe are available on request, as we have no crime in Aus, not even burglar bars in the public area were fitted. The shower gel was an omission, we are really sorry for that. There are also various towel hangers in the bathroom, so that the bench can be used for your amenities. We hope to maybe welcome you here again...

The hotel has parking to the rear, it seemed secure but was not locked whenever we parked so I'm not sure. The rooms were a little faded and the radiators (which were needed the first night) took several hours to warm. The bar was welcoming and the restaurant, although a little pricey, had top notch food with lots of fish and vegetarian choices (a welcome change from game). The town is very small but a good centre to see the wild horses and to visit Kolmanskop ghost town. The hotel does offer trips (I think with a 3rd party?) but they are outrageously expensive. If you have a car you can do most of them yourselves for hardly anything.

Thank you for staying with us. Aus is a very safe town, we do not have crime, yes you can park at the back, the gate is closed most of the time...but even our tables and chairs with tablecloths stay outside ( street side ) The owner has a tour company as well, offering highly professional tours which surely are not overpriced: a 3 hour history-laden sundowner tour with expert knowledge, a whole day tour into the Sperrgebiet concession ( which was closed to the public for more than 100 years ) to the impact crater Roter Kamm is a journey of over 450km, a very exclusive area with pristine landscapes.....you cannot do these tours on your own at all. We hope to be able to host you again some time....

A gem in the middle of southern Namibia. The railway hotel of this once bustling rail crossroads has been lovingly restored by the current owners, Lela and Bernd, and offers spacious comfortable rooms, delicious meals of local specialities and a comprehensive bar all served by a delightfully attentive team of staff. Bernd is also a wealth of local information and his historical tour is a must.
A memorable start to our escape-corona experience!!

Common areas of the hotel were nicely done - particularly the beer garden. Gentleman with curly hair at front desk did his best to make our stay as comfortable as possible and was very kind. Hotel was very clean. Hotel stay occurred during winter and it was very cold in the room. Outside temperature was higher than the room temperature due to poor insulation. The wall panel heater was functional but was not powerful enough to make any difference in the room temperature. Staff provided hot water bottles for the bed but this was inadequate. Hot water in shower was very limited and was not enough for 2 persons to shower. When presenting concerns about the room temperature to the staff at the desk, I was met with hostility and told to go eat dinner in the heated dining room and then take a hot shower, but no suggestion to actually resolve the room temperature was provided. I requested an additional room heater but was told none existed. I did not appreciate the poor attitude of the older woman who spoke to me at the desk. Of the 70+ countries I have visited, I have never been addressed so rudely at any hotel property. Dinner food options were very strangely prepared and barely edible.
I would highly recommend staying at an alternate property in Luderitz as there is nothing of interest for a tourist in Aus except for its location en route to Fish River. I do believe that most of the positive reviews about this property available online are not legitimate based on my experience staying at this hotel.

Thank you for recognising the cleanliness of our establishment, we take pride of this important facet, nonetheless did you repeatedly question / query if this or that was sanitised / cleaned properly, even if our blankets were washed...You were even moved to a smaller room in order to accommodate you being cold, nothing was right for you, whatever we tried.... Your 100 ltr hot water geyser not enough for two? In a desert environment with borehole water supply? Every room has an activity sheet which lists various possibilities to be done in and around Aus. The history tour ( only one of the options ) alone takes 3hrs and you say "nothing of interest" ? Fortunately do we get a lot of praise and appreciation from many happy guests - even for our restaurant - which you say serves "barely edible options" which make the reviews legitimate and deserved, who in turn motivate us to go the extra mile at all times

This hotel in the small town of Aus is a very good option to spend one night at reasonable (not cheap) price, compared to other accommodation nearby.
Our room was nice and clean although a bit cold, there is private parking, breakfast was good offering a rich choice of both English and continental breakfast.
We had dinner there, we ate excellent game meat (kudu, oryx, zebra) with vegetables. Going back to the room after dinner we even found a chocolate on our pillows, like in the best safari lodges!
The location is very good, close both to the B4 to Luderitz and the C13 to Rosh Pinah.

Everything was just perfect - friendly staff, spacious clean room, good food. You notice that all staff take pride in their work and pay attention to the details. The area around Aus is a dream for mountain bikers and trail runners.

We stayed here for 1 night on our way to Sesriem. The rooms are spacious and the restaurant serves good food. Staff is friendly and though there is no fridge in your room, you can store some food in their fridge, very good service. Breakfast is very nice, buffet and hot breakfast to order even pancakes. Definitely would recommend this place for 1 night.

This is a fantastic well run little oasis in the desert. It is clean, has spacious rooms and friendly staff. The restaurant had an great a la carte menu and a nice pub. It’s location is good as a stopover into the South of Namibia for a visit to Sossusvlei and there is also good access to Luderitz and Kolmanskop.

The only hotel in Aus, and it far exceeded expectations. This is a great value. Rooms are simple but extremely clean. The restaurant, terrace, bar, and beer garden are all fantastic. Vegetarian food options available on the menu. Secure parking behind the hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, attentive, and helpful - they seem happy to be there and it shows.
In autumn, it was cold in the room at night so we were glad for the small heater and extra blankets. Central heating is rare in this area.

We stayed in the Orange House, a self-catering house run by the hotel, located across the street. It has a great location on the hill and we had fun taking photos at the big Hotel Bahnhof sign nearby. The house itself is very nice and met all our needs.
