The unique Tsauchab River Camp guest farm with its exclusive chalets and private camping sites is situated on the banks of the Tsauchab River, surrounded by the imposing Naukluft and Tsaris Mountains. The Tsauchab River, with its giant wild fig trees and sparkling clear springs, is the main source of water when in flood to Sesriem Canyon and Sossusvlei. This natural phenomenon abruptly ends in a dry lake at the foot of the world's highest dunes.
The beautiful sunsets combined with the indigenous fauna, and flora will leave an unforgettable impression on you.

Detailed Reviews
This camp / lodge is well worth a visit! Very friendly reception and their staff looking after the camp sites well trained. Each day the site was cleaned, the donkey lit in the mornings and evenings and candles lit after sunset.
Each camp site is large enough to accommodate at least 6 people and is well off to the next site. The silence and quietness is sometimes freighting but rejuvenates you.
We did the 4x4 selfdrive, which I can only recommend. Some stunning views!!
I will come back sometime, definetly!!

This is a wonderful place to visit. It is extremely well run and maintained and is in a very beautiful area. The rivers were prone to flooding at night and so we could not camp at the very beautiful campsites in the Tsauchab river bed. Our campsite was about 8km from the lodge and when it got hot during the day then we had to drive to the lodge to cool down in the lovely pool. The lodge is beautiful and you could spend hours examining all the interesting things. The staff are super friendly and efficient. At our campsite the supervisor made sure we always had hot water and everything was very clean and tidy. It is a bit far to drive to Sossus Vlei from this lodge but if you don't mind the drive it is well worth the visit. There are nice hikes around the area and so you should not be bored.
There was no power at our campsite but I could charge my batteries at the lodge.
This is a highly recommended place to visit

Such a beautiful place…very well groomed ,extremely tidy and clean.
The location is decorated with metal scraps, uniquely turned into art pieces is the absolute highlight.
The camping sites are very well equipped which made us feel very comfortable.
Unfortunately the food was a big big disappointment.Over priced, too tiny portions ( only a garnish of salad instead of a greek salad) and not worth the money at all.It would be nice if they would work on that,as it really downgraded the whole experience.

Stayd for one night. Self camping in the BULL BULL camp ground with two cars. Plenty of space for the four of us The whole setup is unique. Quite amazing. It is wilderness camping with a twist. Staff was very friendly and helpfull. Had an amazing breakfast. It is a campground and a staff you dont want to miss.

The owners of Tsauchab River Camp, Nicky and Johan are the best hosts in Namibia. Unbelievably friendly and service minded. They have a huge property, situated on the banks of the Tsauchab river, surrounded by the Naukluft- and Tsaris mountains, with both camping and chalets.
We stayed 5 nights in the camping area; all camp sites are exclusive, which means that you won't be bothered by any other guests. All sites have toilet and shower, braai area and washing area. One of the sites is in addition situated next to a well marked 21km hike in beautiful surroundings, we did this hike twice and saw a lot of animals as well as lovely nature.
The camp is also a "short" drive from the Naukluft mountain camp, which makes it possible to do day hikes there - we did two hikes in the Naukluft Mountains, but find the hike on Nicky and Johans property much more rewarding regarding things to see.
The people working at the camp are extremely helpful and friendly, and they will surely make you feel welcome! Other things on the property is a bar and a swimming pool, they also make dinner for you on request (we did not try this). If you are camping and need any food or drinks - no problem! They have a freezer full of meat and a room of other foods.
In a few words: Tsauchab River Camp gave us (by far) the best camping experience ever. Thank you Nicky and Johan, we will be back!

I was highly disappointed in the service given by I believe to be the fill in manager at the time. She was incredibly rude to customers and condescending to her staff. Her staff seemed very fearful of her. She also was incredibly disrespectful to our local guide.
I would not go back again and suggest you think twice about visiting this campsite.

Response from Tsauchab, Owner at Tsauchab River Lodge
Responded Jan 19, 2019
Hallo Katie, My name is Nicky Steyn - I'm the owner. I would please ask you more details if possible - when did you visit and the relief couple, was her name Marie of Annariet. We have two stand in couples and we take every feedback and comment very seriously. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We really do hope you might come back when we are her - mostly 90% of the time. Tourism is our passion for 20 years now, really would not like a relief couple to spoil it for us! Hope to hear from you soon! Regards, Nicky

As you arrive here you drive up to the guest farm through a series of scrap metal sculptures which could give you the impression you're entering a junkyard. Don't let this put you off - some would even call it art.
This was the first stop on our tour of Namibia and the owners, Nicky and Johan, set the standard for friendliness and hospitality which was seldom matched by others. There are two parts to the "Camp", the camping part and the guest chalets where we stayed. These are quite basic but clean, private and very quiet; well spaced out from each other and with a good view onto the (dry) riverbed. They are some way from the guest farm, perhaps a 5 minute walk and at night it's very dark so either drive over for dinner or take a flashlight.
We thought the food and service excellent; both dinner and breakfast. The only other review on this place mentions charging for afternoon tea, but that isn't the case now, it's included in the price.
The one weakness is the location. It's just about possible to get to Sossusvlei in the morning - it would take about an hour; but this place is certainly much cheaper than some of those closer to the Vlei. We used Tsauchab River as a base to relax and do some hikes.
It would have got a 5 star except that the chalets don't have electric sockets and some would consider them small - but overall this place offers a great welcome, good food and very good value.

The campsite was nice. But we did not feel really welcomed. There are a lot of signs with rules and bans. The owner also stressed all the time what we cannot do and I felt as a small child. The decoration is old metal stuff - usual in Namibian lodges but not to our taste.
The road leading to the camp is worse than average. We really hoped to find a great place (based on reviews) and were a bit disappointed.

+1
My partner and I recently honeymooned in Namibia and for six nights we camped at the Tsauchab River Camp. We made the best decision. We were greeted initially by Johan who was very friendly and gave us a great site only about 1k from the main building, it had outside showers, great bbq, fire pit, washing up area and also a toilet block a little further away if you were fussed about showering outside... The location was incredible at the foot of a mountain and there is so much wildlife surrounding the river camp. We used the camp as a base to travel to Sossusvlei, the Namib Naukluft Park to do the Waterkloof and Olive trail and also did each hike on site at the camp. The hikes provided are so well marked and I really recommend the mountain zebra trail if you are feeling like a challenge but also want to get up close and personal with the wildlife. The kudu hike is also excellent. We self catered most nights but had we have gone to the restaurant sooner it may have been a different story, only 20 pound roughly for a three course dinner and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food and service were excellent. I'd also like to mention that the hospitality from Nicky is second to none and she always answers any questions with a smile on her face even if it's the third time of asking that night! I hope we are lucky enough to go back one day. Do not hesitate to book this camp.
