We stayed at the Ttakoinenborda bed and breakfast for four nights during our visit to the Basque Country in late June and we absolutely loved our visit. Alain, our host, treated us like family and his passion for his beloved region was clear every morning as he lavished touring advice to his guests as we sat at the breakfast table... More

Marie and Alain are most gracious hosts. They speak a little English as well as a little French and fluent Basque. However, we are able to communicate easily enough to get directions for attractions and restaurants. The B&B is on a beautiful creek. The rooms are clean and neat. Alain makes amazing bread for breakfast which I thoroughly enjoy. The... More

This is a beautiful property, across a stone bridge over a babbling stream, with serene rural surroundings. Best of all are the hosts, Alain and Marie, friendly and helpful with advice and directions. The rooms are spacious, with window onto the garden or courtyard. Just walking the grounds or sitting down by the stream is a delight. This is a... More

Ttakoinenborda is an ideal choice for lodging if you want to explore a variety of charming small French Basque villages. The location is within an hour of San Sebastián on the Spanish coast and 25 minutes of Saint-Jean-de-Luz on the French coast. Many utterly charming French Basque villages are within a 20 minute drive, such as Saré, Ainhoa and Espelette... More

June is a perfect time visit France; the weather is perfect and nothing is crowded because school here is still in session. Still, Alain and Mary's chambres d'hotes are always fully booked. Is it the peaceful site, the charming hosts, or the incredible breakfasts? All three, plus the fact that the rooms are a good value, no doubt. Alain makes... More

We can only agree with the previous reviewers who have described our experience almost exactly! Alain and Marie are wonderful hosts who made us feel so very welcome! We especially liked Alain's enthusiasm for his culture (and of course pelote) and thoroughly enjoyed his morning 'sessions' over the incredible homemade breakfasts. Despite our rather appalling French, Alain was still able... More

We completely agree with previous contributors and hope to complement their reviews with new ideas.. Our concern regarding our limited French was a Non-issue...anywhere. Totally enjoyed our stay in every way as Alain & Maria are superb hosts in an updated family property that dates from 1680.. Alain & Maria's charm and personality make a storybook Basque couple. Breakfasts were... More

My wife and I spent three nights at this wonderful B & B in the heart of French Basque country near Sara. The location is idyllic, the home is an historical structure that has been totally modernized for the comfort of its guests. We chose to stay at Ttakoinenborda the last two nights during our visit to the Basque country because of the great reviews posted on TripAdvisor about them. We totally agree. The young couple, Alaine and Marie, are perfect hosts. Although we do not speak their language, we managed very well and enjoyed our conversations because of their enthusiasm and friendliness.... My husband has been studying french for several years and we wanted a small hotel or bed and breakfast where he might converse in french over breakfast each day.
