The hotel is located in Belle Mare on a stretch of rustic beach with a lovely breeze and lots of sunshine, perfect to just lounge and read. Plus you can easily walk 2 miles along the coast for some tranquillity.

The SALT hotel design is lovely, but it is a boutique hotel, quite small and if you are not venturing out, this may not be the one for you. Honeymooners will enjoy it. It is not a vibrant hotel, it is a quiet & relaxing hotel
For me, long walks, reading and meditation were my only requirement, so 10/10.

Mauritians are friendly, hospitable and the hotel staff will genuinely do everything to make your stay a memorable one.
All the SALT hotel staff were amazing.
They are not pushy and treat each guest individually. So don’t complain about anything post holiday, tell them what you want.

Food- There are no buffets here. All food is selected from a preset menu, whilst all very lovely, as a pescatarian was quite limited, so I simply asked to switch up my meals with different fish and ensured I had a few vegetarian meals to help with sustainability.
Premium drinks will cost you extra, but local drinks are perfectly fine.

Rooms
Quite small, but as a solo traveller perfectly fine. A nice Rain shower and comfortable bed for some sound sleep.
All toiletries are eco friendly.

The room’s patio is tiny with 2 chairs and a table and when it rains there’s no cover.

There are no fridges, iron or TV in the room.

You can ask for a fridge- don’t leave food out in your room, or return to see ants everywhere. It’s a beach hotel in the tropics, so just put everything in the fridge.

You can ask for a tablet in the absence of a TV.

Rooms have facilities for pour-over coffee, but feel free to ask restaurant staff for some tea bags for your room.

I avoided the spa, as prices were higher than back home and was not fussed with the gym here, but there’s bikes, weights, treadmill, kettlebells.

I would suggest booking a few day activities via the SALT app, learn to make body/face masks, paint some ‘positivity pebbles’ for free or book some art painting with Dani (1000MURmin).

Lastly this is my second time to Mauritius and it is safe for the solo female traveller.
Enjoy your stay

5-Stars for SALT of Palmar, Mauritius!

From the moment we arrived at SALT of Palmar, we felt like cherished guests in a hidden paradise. The entire experience was flawless, thanks to the incredible team who went above and beyond to make our stay unforgettable. Every single staff member was friendly, attentive, and eager to help, addressing us by name and genuinely caring about every aspect of our comfort. They couldn't have done more for us, and each interaction was met with a warm smile.

The hotel itself is immaculate—spotlessly clean with a soothing fragrance throughout. It truly feels like an oasis, a sanctuary for couples seeking intimacy and exclusivity. With only 60 rooms, the atmosphere is serene and personal, allowing you to feel as if you have the entire place to yourselves.

The on-site chefs are phenomenal; every meal was a culinary delight, prepared to perfection. The kitchen staff each morning were particularly outstanding, ensuring we began every day with an amazing breakfast experience. The pool was kept at the perfect temperature, providing a refreshing dip that we looked forward to daily.

The rooms are thoughtfully designed, with luxurious showers and breathtaking views onto the beach that make you feel connected to the stunning landscape of Mauritius. We loved waking up each morning to such a beautiful scene—it was pure bliss. The hotel is also situated on the east coast which allows you the catch the most amazing view of the sunrise if you wake up early enough.

A huge thank you to the entire team at SALT of Palmar for their exceptional hospitality. The staff members in particular who went above and beyond were - Akash, Rewa, Med, Shirley, Sanjay, Bhishav, Prince, Qwelyn, Ved and Dervin. This hotel is a gem, and I couldn’t recommend it more. If you’re looking for an intimate, personalized, and genuinely magical stay, this is the place to be.

Thank you for an unforgettable experience!

Warm Regards - Saf

This is our 2nd visit in 12 months to this slice of heaven in the Mauritian east coast. We stayed for 11 nights again, on an all-inclusive basis for a couple taking a bang on the beach room. We arrived to a beautiful cake and champagne for my birthday and a personalised birthday card in our room and were welcomed back as family by everyone we met.

The room is very spacious and decorated simply but elegantly with the style of the hotel carried through. There is a radio and no TV which was one of the selling points for us to have the ability to switch off. The storage is plentiful for 2 weeks clothing and we loved the spa toiletries in the spacious shower and bathroom area. The bed in very comfy and linens are a fantastic quality. The view from the end of the bed is onto a small balcony with chairs with the most beautiful view of the ocean which is absolutely stunning.

The food and beverage team are just wonderful, nothing is too much trouble, the chefs cater for any changes you wish to make to the menu and the food is very wholesome and delicious with a wide range of meat, fish, vegetarian and vegan options. Chef Shiva is an incredible asset and produces delicious dishes to allow you the chance to try many different food types throughout the day and evening.

Med and his team in the restaurant are attentive, efficient and incredibly helpful and friendly. We feel totally looked after and very lucky to be able to be here again, the food and service is just wonderful, Mauritian and authentic. Rishi the Front of House Manager is truly a delight and made booking excursions and trips so easy from arranging transport to providing early breakfast in the restaurant and food boxes for the days out. He has a wealth of knowledge on all things local and helps everyone to get the most out of their trip and nothing is too much trouble

All in all, from the wonderful outdoor team arranging the daily free snorkelling and glass bottom boat trips, to the housekeeping team, food and beverage crew and all the grounds and site team, this is a wonderful hotel that I was reluctantly writing a review for as I don’t want the word to get out about it so it becomes so popular but everyone here ensures you have the very best, fully relaxed and calm holiday on this beautiful island !!

We had a very nice stay at the Hotel Salt of Palmar. If you want to avoid the big hotel complexes, you're in good hands here in the (adults only) hotel.
Delicious à la carte breakfast with a large selection of coffee and tea (smoothies and freshly squeezed juice should also be included and not cost extra).
We didn't have lunch or dinner because they were unfortunately much overpriced and for this reason we preferred to go to the local restaurants in the area with our rental car, which offer very good quality at half to a third of the price of the Salt of Palmar.

The photos of the hotel complex on the website & Booking correspond to reality. The complex is very beautifully located, very well maintained and the rental car can also be parked on the hotel grounds for free. Unfortunately there is no refrigerator in the rooms.

We would especially like to thank Med, Vic, Bhishav, Priyanka, Rewa & Yanick, who always handled the service and check-in in a friendly and competent manner. There is still room for improvement in the rest of the team here and there (speed, attentiveness, etc.), although the supervisors are always concerned about the well-being of the guests.

One of the decisive factors in choosing the hotel was the water sports on offer. Vichard and his team were excellent and responded to our requests depending on the waves and options. With the included excursion boat, you can marvel at the completely intact "house reef" for snorkeling once a day after a 10-minute boat ride.

For all snorkeling fans who like to snorkel at any time of day, independent of the excursion boat: just 5 minutes' walk from the hotel, directly on the Public Beach Palmar behind the swimming zone, there is a completely intact reef. However, an inflatable snorkeling/diving buoy should be carried here for safety, as there is a lot of boat traffic at certain times of the day.

All in all, the hotel offers a fair price-performance ratio (with the exception of food & drinks outside the booked catering category) and can be recommended without reservation.

We returned this week after a great 9 days at Salt.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, the service was superb.
Our room was always imaculate as was the pool area and the beach. Then there was the food! Truly superb, i tried almost every special which along with the main menu contained many local dishes.
I'm not particulary keen on fish but i probably ate more seafood, superbly cooked and presented than anything else.
We ate at the new chefs table area called Pinches. Six superb but different courses cooked in front of you by experts.
Always sunbeds to be found either on the beach or by the pool even though the hotel was full. As well as having fresh water at the beach they also have ice cold still and sparkling water on tap by the pool. You'll also find a sun cream dispenser and fresh Aloe Vera to sooth the areas you miss!
Great cross secion of guests staying whilst we were there, not just couples but also several solo travellers.

Your kind words about the impeccable service, pristine rooms, and superb dining experiences mean a lot to us. It’s fantastic to know that you enjoyed exploring our special dishes and local flavors, even stepping out of your comfort zone to try more seafood! We’re also thrilled that you had such a great time at Pinches, where our chefs love creating a unique, interactive experience for our guests. The small details—from sunbeds always being available to fresh aloe vera and sparkling water on tap—are all part of what we do to make sure every guest feels truly cared for. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we hope to welcome you back again soon for another exceptional stay! All our warmest regards, Raj Reedoy

SALT of Palmar is a fun hotel on a beautiful beach. The attention to detail is very impressive and also charming, with brushes as you come off the beach to help get rid of the sand on your feet, water stations available with various choices of garnish and also a checkers board with pebbles as counters.
We had a half board package which made meal times super exciting as the food was exceptional! Drinks were also all made fresh, including cocktails which were particularly tasty. Drinks are on the expensive side however, with a pint of local beer costing £9, this was very expensive in comparison to other hotels we stayed at on the island. Breakfast was by far the best spread of our holiday with so much to choose from, lovely coffee and freshly made pastries from their bakery every day.
We also had a couples full body massage in the spa, again it was expensive compared to other hotels, however it was lovely and the level of personalisation by choosing your own oils made it very special.

Fantastic holiday, absolutely recommended without any compromises!
First of all, the hotel itself - exceptional and really modern. There is no real reception, but there was always someone in the shop who could help us immediately. We really liked the style and are looking for hotels like this that aren't run of the mill. We had a Bang on the Beach room and it was absolutely amazing! The view couldn't have been more beautiful and we were able to wake up to the sunrise every morning. From every corner of the room (including the shower) you had a fantastic view - incomparable. We really liked the food and the food concept. There is a la carte for breakfast and dinner. There is also a small buffet at breakfast. If I had anything to complain about, it would just be the portions. These are much too big for breakfast and dinner, so you can't even finish them. The beach is very clean and beautiful - towards the afternoon the wind often came, which made it rather uncomfortable on the beach. Then you could go to the pool, which was built so well that you don't notice the wind - great! I also really liked the restaurant, again not a typical restaurant, but everything open - so it was much quieter than in closed restaurants, which often have a canteen style. That was absolutely not the case here. The staff is exceptionally friendly, courteous and attentive! They really try to please you. Unfortunately I had a cold one day and could only stay in the room. The staff then made me chicken broth and the next day everyone asked about my well-being. Something like that will definitely stay in your head! Thank you again for that. I can't write down all the positive experiences because the text would be too long. We will definitely be back and can highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an exceptional holiday. The only point of criticism - seat cushions in the closet, which could be used for the chairs on the balcony, would be great. In the long run it gets very uncomfortable ;)

We were already on the 3. Time in this wonderfully located hotel directly on the fantastic beach ( 2x under the previous management). Perfect size, very personal. Rooms are well designed with great toiletries in reusable containers to avoid plastic. We were convinced by the new concept with local products, the menu selection instead of a buffet also for breakfast! In the beginning a bit getting used to, but with the help of the nice staff in the service good to master. The food overall very delicious and always wonderfully served. Here the Creole cuisine is lived, you should definitely get involved. The cooking event with the chef Shiva an absolute highligt. All hotel staff are very attentive and helpful, representative we would like to mention for all Sanjay 🥰 and Dev. Thanks for the great moments. We felt very comfortable and would love to come back.
We greet the whole team - stay as we are!

Small Pension with 59 rooms, adult only, eco-friendly atmosphere, intimate beach, you feel almost alone in the world. Quiet place, no roadside. Very clean, lovely staff, patient and attentive. No people shouting or speaking loudly, the clientele is quiet, without social judgment.

No TV in the room, good internet radio set.
Practical room, the sea view, beautiful from morning to evening.
Some Things to do, no spa, but a small massage institute and very nice treatment.

Food on top, semi-gourmet, à la carte, no buffet. Local products.
No entertainment at night. Light music during the day.
Car essential if you want to go out, few things on foot if you want to go out.
But we don’t want to leave the Pension because we are so good, especially if we are looking for calm and rest.

I insist on the staff and managers who are great.

Sad to be gone!

One of the best holidays I have ever had. The hotel is stunning from the design to the views. I was speechless walking into my room and seeing the view of the sea from my balcony. Waking up to the sound of the ocean is absolute bliss.

The beach is immaculate and the surf staff are super friendly and offer daily snorkelling, SUP and kayaking among others as part of the stay. The water is super clear and the reef keeps the sea calm so you can enjoy a dip in the ocean.

I stayed on an all-inclusive basis so didn’t have to pay for most of my meals and drinks. The food is wonderful lead by head chef Shiva. I highly recommend booking into ‘The Experience’ which is such a well crafted tasting menu from locally sourced produce. And the cocktails are amazing. Bhavish and Dervin are both masterful at crafting the most delicious flavours.

The service is also impeccable, from check-in to check-out. Special shout out to Dev who made sure I was always well looked after the entire stay.

Mercie beaucoup pour mes vacances fantastiques.

A bientôt.
