A wonderful week at the Salt of Palmar. Very relaxing, lovely food and such friendly and attentive staff who went out of their way to make our holiday perfect. We took one boat trip out, the 5 islands trip booked with Chris from Papas Dream who was cruising for business on the beach…. If you do one trip… do this one!! Kenny, our cap’n, had us laughing, drinking rum and having fun with the ten other folks on the boat from cast off. We also did the Mauritian curry class which was good fun although an expensive way to cook your own lunch!! Special mentions to Vidusha, Deeksha and Beedayshee who were the standout waiting staff. The bar was set high by all the team though, so too many to mention individually.

The very best thing about Salt of Palmar is the staff. Everyone was cheerful, helpful and nothing was too much trouble. A special thank you goes to Vanusha for her great kindness and helpfulness, in the restaurant (water will let her know what I mean). The food is excellent especially the huge breakfast. Dinner is god though vegetarian options are limited. I would recommend half board but the dinner menu repeats after a week so may be too repetitive for a two week stay. Overall an absolutely great hotel.

Salt of Palmar is an excellent boutique hotel for couples looking for a quieter (No partying and no heavy drinking) and more laid back beach vacation. The staff are kind and helpful, and the property itself is beautiful and well-maintained. We stayed for seven nights in November and would book again in a heartbeat. Below are our tips. Tips: 1) We booked a pool view room. Since the room was on the third floor (302), we also got a beach view from our balcony without paying beach room price. 2) The food is very good, but pricey! We recommend the half board plan, which includes breakfast and dinners off the a la carte menu. Without the plan, we would have spent close to $75 each night for dinner without drinks. We don’t really drink much, but if you do, getting the beverage plan might also be worth it. Breakfasts were the highlight of the dining experience, with fresh juice, coffee, pastries, eggs, and other dishes. On the half board plan, you can order as much as you want off (appetizer, salad, main, dessert etc.) the dinner and breakfast a la carte menus at each meal, so take advantage of that. Service is a bit slow since it’s all made fresh (perhaps relaxed is the better term!) - plan on 45 minutes for breakfast and 1.5 hours for dinner. 3) We rented a small car at the airport, and we chose to eat lunches out while exploring. This saved us money and meant that we weren’t tied to the hotel or expensive taxis. If you plan to eat lunches at the hotel, again it probably makes sense to go all inclusive here. 4) Offered on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, the Ile Des Deux Cocos excursion is poorly advertised but a great experience and a good deal. You get transfer to and from the hotel to the Blue Bay, a ferry trip to a private island with a lovely beach, a buffet seafood lunch, live music, unlimited alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, and a short (30 minute) snorkeling excursion (they’ll lend you gear) for $75 a person. You’d spend that alone on lunch and drinks at the resort. 5) Take advantage of the free activities at the resort. Try SUP during high tide and reserve a sport on the 11am snorkeling boat ride a day in advance. We also enjoyed the aqua fit classes. 6) They truly eschew single use plastic and paper print outs, which is awesome! Bring a reusable water bottle to fill up at the filling station every day. Also download the menus on your phone, as they do not have paper ones. 7) Walk along the beach past the other resorts in the evenings and marvel at the tide pools filled with all sorts of creatures. I would recommend flip flops or reef shoes, as parts of the beach are rocky. 8) Laundry prices are very high - $5 for a pair of paints. Bring enough clothing to last you. 9) Go to Flac Market on Wednesday (when they have produce) and buy a Victoria pineapple. It’ll be pre peeled, and you can eat it like an apple. Delicious! In terms of feedback for management, the yoga instructor gave a short lecture filled with false information, including that daily yoga practice prevents cancer and other illnesses. This is a highly problematic assertion and tone deaf to those with chronic illnesses. The entire yoga group was uncomfortable.

Absolutely amazing hotel, there is nothing there is everything there to cater for you individual needs. We stayed bed & breakfast because we wanted to explore. Akhilesh on reception helped us booked restaurants and taxis and it didn’t disappoint. We booked a trip to 5 islands with Chris from Papas dream Co Ltd and it was great value for money, well organised and Kenny our guide literally made our holiday - unforgettable! You honestly are in paradise highly recommended

This is a small (by Mauritian standards) hotel but was just what we wanted. If you are a fan of huge, impersonal hotels with 3 pools and multiple restaurants, then Salt is not for you. However, if you want personal service where the chef, general manager, waiters, etc. greet you by name, then go to Salt. I would not want to specifically name staff members who were fantastic as I genuinely would have to list 10-12 names! The rooms are a bit on the small side but you don't tend to spend too much time in them so this was not an issue for us. We stayed in a sea-facing room which was private and quiet but I imagine the pool-facing rooms could be a bit noisy, although there was never any late-night noise during the week that we were guests. There is a single restaurant with an a la carte menu. The food was fantastic with a strong leaning towards healthy options and there was never an issue if we asked for something slightly different to what was offered. Nitish (exec chef) whipped it up in no time! There are so many options to choose from in Mauritius, but would I go back to Salt? The answer would be a definite YES.

Where shall I start...Our stay way pretty perfect! Most of you know Mauritius for the big hotel areas, so it was an absolute miracle that we found this lil gem on the island. We had a wonderful 9 days at the SALT of Palmar. We loved that it was super tiny, and very familiar, every corner had a special detail and the service was superb. The staff really makes you feel at home. If you are looking for a Mandarin Oriental Standard, then this won't be the right one. But what this hotel had, is a lot of soul and personality. Rooms: Book a room with a sea view. We had one, but I would say that that's the magic of it. You will realize quite fast that the hotel is refurbished, so here and there you see that it's not 100% up to date, but it really doesn't matter. The rooms were super clean, and spacious and had a great personalized interior. Housekeeping in the morning and also for turndown service did a great job. Thanks to the team! You will see that TV is missing and also Mini-Bars, but that's why you have chosen a Lil boutique hotel over a big chain. Beach: The beach is beautiful, clean, and located around the corner, so u don't get the feeling that it's getting crowded with too many guests, what I loved. The pool is nice, but there could be more sunbeds. Be aware that you are on the eastern side, so when u arrive in August or September, it's very windy and may get chilly. While in November, you will be happy to have the breeze. Snorkelling: Yes, you can snorkel, and you will see fish. But don't expect reef-like on the Maledives for sure. Food: ONE OF A KIND. If you are looking for endless buffets and a big choice just to look at, this won't be your cup of tea. The food was just amazing. Very individualized menu, a big variety. We didn't eat twice the same. The breakfast menu was outstanding and so was the coffee (which usually always sucks in hotels). Nevertheless, you have to say that if you wanna dishes outside the included menu or wines, they are quite expensive (even for Europeans). The only experience, where we were not really stunned, was the cocktails at any point. Watery, not really strong etc. Foodservice: A very big thanks to the service team. you made our experience stunning, also the way you took care of my parents and everything around my mom's birthday. OUr warmest thanks to Vidusha!! But also to Vinesh, Med, Vajna and Vashish (I Hope I got the names right) We hop to see you soon!

I recently spent 4 nights at the Salt of Palmar with my partner and can confidently say it was the most amazing hotel experience! Everything was perfect, situated on a beautiful white sand beach this beautiful boutique hotel offered the most relaxing and enjoyable experience. Firstly, every member of staff (especially Sanjay) were warm and welcoming, very attentive and thoughtful. I wish I could name everyone!! If you are a food lover, this hotel is definitely for you. Every meal was freshly prepared and delicious. So if you are looking for a relaxing break in Mauritius, definitely go to Salt of Palmar. You will not regret it!

Overall, this is a great hotel which we really enjoyed our time at, however we left feeling that the experience could have been improved. Pros - Beautiful hotel, very well designed and decorated - Great setting, the beach which it backs onto is amazing. White sands and clear waters which go on for miles. - Watersports, these are (mostly) included within the hotel rates. The team at the beach hut are very welcoming and very helpful with explaining the activity and guiding you over how to approach it. This was one of the highlights of our trip, especially the snorkelling, which we did multiple times. - Rooms. We stayed in a 'Bang on Beach' room and it was very peaceful, with a view of the ocean. They are well designed, modern, clean but with character. - Live music, this created a really nice atmosphere in the evenings when it was on. - Food. The food was of great quality, most of the dishes we ate were delicious and although the menu didnt change over the days we were there, they had a daily specials board which gave some variety. - Staff. There were a handful of staff who went above and beyond to improve our visit, most notably the beach hut staff and some of the bar/waiter staff. Cons - Food. Although the food we ate was mostly good, one of us has an allergy and found it very difficult to order food around this. Some staff were helpful in adapting meals to accomodate this, whereas others wouldn't make the effort to check and told us we couldn't eat the majority of the dishes. A lot of the Vegan options were marked down as having dairy in, which caused a lot of confusion when trying to order. - Pricing. We were dissappointed to see that the prices of items when we arrived at the hotel was not the same as those shown on the website, which we consulted before booking our trip, as we stayed on a room only basis. Prices avergaed from 20% to 50% higher than shown on the website. We expected a premium rate to go alongside the premium hotel experience, however the pricing didnt make much sense, some items were great value, whereas others seemed very expensive. Local beer for example was just as expensive as imported beers which seemed odd. - Information. The app was a useful tool to communicate with staff and make bookings for activities or other local restaurants, however we found it hard to find out information about all that the hotel had to offer, we found a noticeboard halfway through our trip which was updated daily, however when we enquired about some of the activities we were told they werent running. There could be a better way of showing what the place has to offer. We tried to make bookings for certain activities in advance of coming on the trip but were told this wasnt possible until we had arrived.

What a special place. It is designed very beautifully with a lot of attention to detail - we’ve seen it in magazines. The food is really special. Get on the all inclusive option - you won’t regret it. There are a lot of activities you can join. Make sure you download the SALT app and get your reservation number and you can reserve activities, some of which are free. We did a free class on how to regenerate plants, hosted by the executive chef Nitish himself. He also hosted us the next day on a curry making experience- outstanding and very memorable, and the curry was excellent. We did a fun cocktail session with Nitesh up on the roof bar which is open for happy hour. The food and cocktails were outstanding and creative - the best meals we had on the island, and we hotel hopped to four different hotels to try them out. It was also the best service on the island, hands down. Every employee went out of their way to make us feel welcomed. Wanted to also mention Aikhilesh and Drishti on the front desk, spa host Antish (go for the special salt room /massage - very relaxing), Vikram the porter, Jevin, restaurant staff Vidusha, Raji, Rewai, Sanjay, Med, Vish, Hoomit, others I’m sure! Thank you all for such a nice stay. We hope to come back.

In a nutshell: Pros: Great hotel Great food Splendid beach Fantastic location (calm, perfect for relaxation) Awesome drinks (nice history behind all of them) Most importantly, marvelous staff, this point arguably makes the difference. Special shout out to Beedaysee (+ his uncle), Nitish, Shib, Bhavish, Khertee, Bhishav, Fayaaz, Sanjay and Vish. Cons: Relax, enjoy your vacation do not mind when things may take bit longer than back home ;) Freshly squeezed juices at breakfast would be decent. Thanks for the great stay. All the best from Room 206
