We stayed for six nights at Dar tal-Kaptan for the start of a honeymoon tour of Malta and Gozo, and couldn’t have been made more welcome from the moment we arrived by host Peter and his son Paul. You really are staying as a guest within their home, but still have the privacy of a generous suite decorated elegantly and sympathetically within this charming historic converted farmhouse, with luxurious extra touches such as glass water carafes by the beds and fragranced reed diffusers. We chose to stay in Tranquility suite on the first floor with two outdoor balconies overlooking the garden and pool, with garden furniture and a useful clothes dryer. The suite is generous in proportion with plenty of closet and drawer space, air conditioning and an extra fan. We liked having the kitchenette for evenings when we weren’t going out and could enjoy drinks and snacks either outside, on the sofa, or even downstairs in the comfortable lounge and conservatory. Breakfasts were truly amazing, served attentively by Ettiene, with different fruits, omelette (cooked and served by Peter), breads, meats, cheeses, salad, yoghurt, jams and cake every day; we didn’t need lunch once! Peter, Paul and Ettiene imparted a wealth of recommendations for not only the best places to eat and visit, but useful tips for first timers on the island such as the Bolt app for taxis if you don’t drive (like Uber), and using the excellent bus service - we bought a 7 day pass as Dar tal-Kaptan is just around the corner from the bus route into Victoria. We highly recommend staying here and will definitely return.…
Thank you so much Peter, Paul and Etienne for your attentive, kind, caring and friendly way of hosting us. We felt very comfortable and welcome at your place. The house is beautiful and the breakfast was excellent!
Contacted the host Peter about the possibility of staying now in mid November at his place and though he closed for the season, he made it possible. We were the only guests and we chose the Serenity suite on the top floor. And it's gourges. Peter welcomed us with a drink and gave us all the necessary information. In the morning Etienne is preparing a wonderful breakfast with everything that you wanted. I had wrote to Peter that I like goat milk and cheese and there it was on the table every morning. I think it's difficult to find better accommodation on Malta and Gozo.
Beautiful house, spacious rooms with great views and terraces. Lovely pool set in luscious garden. Great location for exploring the countryside. We hired e-bikes and loved the experience. Excellent breakfast and charming host. Highly recommended. Loved every minute. Thank you!
Our vacation started right after the red doors of Dar tal-Kaptan were opened by the owner Peter. During a warm welcome with drinks in the cosy pavilion we were flooded with information about Gozo, especially about places to eat, to swim and special activities. We took great benefit from his enormous inside knowledge of the island. After a tour of the house he showed us our room, Nostalgia, which offers amazing furniture and harmonious decoration as well as an incredibly stunning view of the gozitan scenery from the private balcony. During our whole stay every wish was anticipated by Etienne and Peter. Breakfast was served in different rooms to comply with the current covid-situation. Nevertheless, it was manifold with cereals, fruits and varying tasteful omelettes. We are really looking forward to our next stay in this fantastic atmosphere.…
We simply loved this small and elegant guest house, a repurposed Gozitan farmhouse perched on a hilltop on Il-Fanal in Ghasri. We enjoyed lovely conversations in the lush garden, by the pool, in the Moroccan living room and found quiet time in the library, terrasses and alcoves. We hopped on e-bikes to visit the stunning natural wonders including Wield Il-Ghasri, Wield Il-Mielha, the Salt Pans by Marsalforn, the Fungus Rock, Ramla Bay and the Xlendi cliffs. We are happy !
The atmosphere in this amazing structure is fantastic, the attention to details is impressive so as the courtesy of the owner, his son and the staff. Despite the situation, we had a truly relaxing and pleasant time. Disliked · Everything was perfect, nothing to complain about.
Very welcoming and helpful hosts. Delicious and varied breakfast. Quiet and peaceful area. The view is simply amazing. We are definitely loving our stay here. Our expectations have been exceeded. Will undoubtedly recommend it!
We were warmly welcomed by Peter, one of the owners who treated us to a glass of local wine and talked to us about our plans. He generously gave his advice on the best places to eat and locations to visit. A tour of this beautiful hotel followed. Homely, comfortable and unique each public area is spotless and maintained to the highest standards. The gardens are lovely. There is a generous pool and jacuzzi, sauna and honesty bar with a great wine cellar. Works of art and Peter’s own pottery add to the feeling of being a guest in a friend’s house. It nestles in a lovely peaceful village with panoramic views of stunning countryside and the dramatic Citadel in the distance. Bird song is ever present. The bedrooms are more like suites, each with their own generous outside area in which to relax. They are generously furnished and beautifully decorated. We were upgraded to the best suite; with two rooftop gardens, a kitchen, seating area on a mezzanine and generous bathroom. The bed was comfortable and the room utterly peaceful and relaxing. Breakfast is generous and delicious with local flavours. Either Peter or Warren join the guests for breakfast; a lovely and special touch. All the staff are welcoming and a pleasure to chat with. Well-located and away from the busy daytime tourists, this hotel and its hosts are special. Excellence and five star yet inexpensive and great value; this is a perfect base to explore a stunning island. We will both return with joy to this beautiful hotel and wonderful hosts.…
This boutique bed and breakfast on the island of Gozo is simply stunning. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, our hosts Peter, Warren and their team made us feel welcome, at home and relaxed. We arrived early afternoon and were offered refreshments on the terrace by the pool. All you could hear were the birds and the gentle breeze. We chatted informally about what we would like to do and visit and Peter kindly suggested places to visit you will not find in most guide books and suggestions on where to eat before being shown our suite. It was beautiful with a large bedroom, kitchenette and bathroom as well as gorgeous courtyard. As we had booked slightly out of season, Peter offered us an upgraded suite at no extra cost and with its traditional Gozo stonework, large balcony and sundeck with views over the valley - accepted his kind offer. All rooms have air conditioning. Our suite, a split-level room at the top of the house with a large panoramic sundeck balcony and seating area (see pictures). There was information on what to do and where to visit, restaurants all recommended by our hosts. It was cosy and comfortable and very romantic. Fantastic Wi-fi, plenty of towels including towels for the beach or to use by the pool. An honesty bar, a sauna and massages were also on offer, if we required them. Our first night out was at Kcina Ghawdxija in Xlendi (Shh-lend-ee) and Peter called ahead to book at table for us. It did not disappoint. We sat on the water’s edge, eating traditional Gozo food and sampling the fine Gozo wine. Back at the Maison we had the best night sleep we had had for a long time. The bed was very comfortable and had everything we needed. In the morning we sat on our balcony, fresh coffee in hand and relaxed - the view is stunning and unspoilt. Breakfast is communal in a large dinning room with your hosts and fellow guests; Maltase Bread, fruit, eggs, local cheese, juices, coffees, salads set you up for the day. Both Peter and Warren have plenty of suggestions for your day ahead and share much about their life on Gozo as well as getting to know you too. It is a great way to start the day. We could go and on about this beautiful unique place but to say we will definitely be returning, and definitely for a longer visit – It is a hidden gem and one of the best places we have stayed anywhere in the world. No matter the weather - and we did have some rain and an amazing thunderstorm - there is plenty to do and explore. Unfortunately what disappointed the most was it was over too quickly. Thank you for an amazing time and see you again soon. Duncan & JL x…
