I gave this Quinta a five-star for its very peaceful location, the gorgeous room we stayed in - which someone likened to staying at your grandmother's - and the extremely friendly and helpful lady who looks after it for the owners, Madalena. However, there was a slight downside. First of all, be prepared to walk up about 85 very steep...

We went north East to Porta Cruz for a weekend break and thoroughly enjoyed Quinta da Cappella. The house exuded old world charm and everything was well looked after and beautifully polished. We walked down the hill (30 minutes) to Porta Cruz for drinks and got a taxi back from the town square which worked very well. There was a...

We spent three lovely days at the Quinta da Capela. The views are fantastic, the rooms furnished with nice old furniture and the chapel makes it very special. We felt very welcome. The access via the steps provides some extra workout, but the location more than makes up for it. We'd definitely come back.

We spent 5 nights in Quinta da Capela and I was definitely the best accommodation we had on Madera Island. We felt as we had traveled not only to Madera but also back in time :) The spacious antique room, as well as the well-equipped kitchen and the dining room, have excellent, unforgettable atmosphere . So does the peaceful garden...

My wife and I enjoyed the privilege of staying here for 4 nights recently: it was like staying in our own Manor House, and we loved it. Just be aware that there are many (108?) steps from the road up to the Quinta- the website makes this clear, but I still read complaints. We, and one other couple from Brazil...

Beautiful guest house with an amazing view of Porto da Cruz bay. The staff was extremely helpful. The house is 5 min from Porto da Cruz, you will need a car to get there (by the way, avoid Goldcar rentals at the airport, it's a scam!)

Amazing small hotel, like stepping into a museum. Beautiful garden with incredible views of Porto da Cruz. The house is in the mountains so for best comfort you’ll need a car, but you can also use the buses, although they are not very frequent. You’ll need an adventurous spirit to fully appreciate this 300 plus year old house but if...

The location is perfect, as long as you have transport. Very tranquil but wonderful views out to the sea. The building is full of character and the suites huge and comfortable. We wish had stayed longer to soak in the atmosphere.

Stayed there a couple of nights in the beginning of summer. It’s quite an authentic house and exactly what I was looking for. It seats on the top of the hill, overlooking the town and the surrounding mountains. It has the most breath taking view! Seating in the garden, either in the morning, or at night time, the only thing...
