Site RV 010 was level, sand pad, full shade, water and electric and very spacious. The primitive outhouse is right behind the site. They did not smell at the site. Convenient yes, but it is an outhouse. You picture what that was like.
The bath/shower house, only one in the campground, was back at the main office, not far from the site. Two shower rooms are available. Each room has a nice wood bench and shelf to set things on. They are clean and relatively spacious. Now the downside, if you want to take a hot shower get out the quarters. A five minute hot shower will cost you .50 cents. Once you get hot water the pressure is good. You can get quarters from the laundry area on the other side of the building.
Overall not a bad campground.

My last visit was 2 years ago. During this recent visit I was truly impressed with the little changes and improvements they made. They really stepped up their game. My camp site was clean and they even raked a pattern around the fire pit... the bathrooms were VERY clean and they had hand sanitizer at each door. When I arrived the staff was very friendly, provided me directions to my site and asked if there was anything I needed. Everyone at the campsite followed the rules and the site itself can’t be beat! It’s right next to the swift river

We had an awesome time here, the owner and the staff were extremely kind. The campground itself was well maintained with great amenities. The camp sites are spaced out so you have a good feel of being in the woods without the feeling of being packed in as is the case with some campgrounds. The Swift River is Gorgeous with amazing rock formations, we got to do some gold panning some fishing and lots of swimming. I would definitely recommend staying here. Nearby there are also a lot of other attractions to check out, beautiful hikes scenic drives and some great restaurants if you want to take a break from the campfire.

I've tent camped at a lot of places in Maine. If you're looking for tent nice sites this is not it. Once I saw the cramped site I almost drove off but after 2 hours of driving, I was stuck. I think this is fine for RVs and ATV owners seem to love it. There is really nowhere to walk around or get into nature like many sites. You are right off RT 17 so traffic noise is always there especially loud motorcycles headed to Rangely. Still, my biggest beef is that the tent area is so small you are jammed up against each other. There is no tree separation like other places so the folks with bright lights tiki torches and fire were totally taking care of my lighting. The pit toilets were bad as well> Again probably due to the RV nature of the place. When nature calls you just go to your bathroom on wheels - no so for tenters. Lastly, the beautiful pictures of the Swift river made me think "well at least there's that". To each there own but it was hot so no surprise crowded with kids and a loose pit bull. No place to get away a bit unless you head pretty far down the river. Again I think if you have a mess of kids, an ATV, and a pull behind and no need for nature this will work. But tenters looking for a night in the pines to do your own thing and maybe hear a bird or two? I'm not gonna lie. I slept in my truck and left at daybreak.

This was our 4th year staying at this campground and it is by far our all time favorite! we hope to be customers for many many years to come. We always say we will finally venture off the campground/canyon and go explore elsewhere but we never end up leaving, which says a lot! there is so much to do, but we prefer to spend all of our time right in the water (so does our dog). another big plus is how dog friendly this place is, our dog goes everywhere with us and I think she would say it’s her all time favorite place too! she knows her way around better than we do.

The staff is always so accommodating and just genuinely kind, they are one of the reasons we love the place so much. Traci and Patti are the sweetest!! The gift shop down the road is an amazing little spot as well, and we always get the geodes that you crack yourself. Very fun!

Highly recommend this place!
Cant wait to be back in a couple of weeks with my girlfriends for their first time up!

Great family vacation, clean river. Great and friendly staff. They would let you add things to your “tab” which I’ve never experienced at a campground before, so that was nice. The store has everything you would need/ extras. Needs to add decks of cards to the variety lol but other than that. It’s a great place to stay and we’ll be back

My most favorite place in western maine! Try to go twice a year. Absolutely love the thunderstorms they are amazing when they happen. The swift river is beautiful. Campground and campers all around are always down for a good time and no one complains

We loved this campground. We camp with a 27 foot Rv. The sites are really big and level, but still remote enough to feel like I am camping. The bathrooms were nice and clean. Our campsite was on the river there was a short path that lead to the water where we could go for a dip or go tubing. A little further up the river was the canyon where people could jump off the rocks into the water. We are already trying to plan a time we can come back to coos canyon campground!

My family has been going to Coos Canyon Campground for over 5 years. We absolutely love gold hunting and hiking and Maine is the place to go. The employees are so helpful and keep the site clean. The campsites are separated by trees for privacy.
