After a horse ride on the beach Brad invited us out to stay at Dijembe with the promise of a filled hot tub and pancakes, we ditched our hostel in town and set off. I can honestly say it was my favourite hostel in South Africa !! And one of my favourite places all round. The area itself is amazing.... More

I had a great experience at Dijembe. I stayed in a dorm for 2 nights at the end of June. Complimentary pancake breakfast with fresh fruit was awesome and yummy! Max always knew where I was during the today so it made me feel safe. I met great people at Dijembe too. The rooms are great and clean and spacious... More

Was one of our best holidays and visits ever! We were treated like family! Nothing is impossible! This is a place we will visit over and over again as often as we can. From free pancakes, horse rides, a stubborn goat and a suicidal dog, all add to the vibe, character and soul of the venue! Thanks Brad, Helena and... More

We stayed for one night in this hostel. The hostel is pretty cool - quite basic but big rooms (we stayed in a double with ensuite) and they were v warm! Ensuite rooms had a toilet and shower, only downside was that there wasn't a door to separate the main room from the toilet - just a curtain. The hostel... More

Very cozy backpackers, absolutely lovely people working there, lots of things to do in the area. Was only there for a short stay but it will be one of my favourite hostels in SA for sure. Free pancakes for breakfast makes it even better. P.S. Jimmy is a legend. Oh and Baz too.

This is an ideal backpackers venue for the young and the "older" young at heart. It might not be a good idea for the formal conservative type though. During our stay they were fully booked (excluding tents) while similar venues in the village were pretty much deserted - this says a lot. The establishment has minor "snags" but not worth... More

Stayed two nights whilst doing the bungee and kayaking (both highly recommended!). Great backpackers with awesome chilled vibe. It really feels like you're staying in someones big house with a camp fire outside. They organised dinner which was a great braai. The guy working, James, was awesome and helped organise a few things for us. Would stay again for sure!

This place is incredible!!! I've probably stayed in well over 40 or 50 backpackers and this is so far my favorite. It is so comfortable here and easy to meet people and get involved in games and entertainment. The bed and the dorm room were so comfortable and cozy. I really really like this place and hope everyone who comes... More

Stayed in one of the double rooms with on suite bathroom on the first floor. Simple room which I think Is over priced for what you get 450rand/night. The room was dark and gloomy with only one bedside lamp, but some might say that it's cozy... The bed was nice anyway and the bathroom got hot water but no door,... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
As you walk into Dijembe you become a part of what this homely and sustainable lodge's name promises: a circle of friends. Handmade hammocks, recycled building materials, fresh mountain water and small details like the 'frog city' which protects little amphibians in the wild green camping garden, prove the passion of the green Dijembe team. Respecting the Khoisan ancestors, Dijembe not only invites its guests to drumming and dances, but also preserves their heritage by including and strengthening the local community. Visit the local township with its art shops and taverns. Bounce through the National Park and explore nature on foot, affordable mountain bikes or on the backs of Dijembe's horses - or book some tubing. End the day with a wholesome organic dinner and bread from the stone pizza oven, then star gaze from the jacuzzi on the candle-lit deck. ... more   less
