Travelers' Choice
Originally built as a country escape for the Scott family, Wood Hall Hotel & Spa in Wetherby remains a tranquil country house hotel where today's pressures seem an age away. Ever since the house was completed around 1790, it has been a place of peace and relaxation. Fittingly, it currently stands next door to a Carmelite monastery, home to a order of nuns. However Wood Hall Hotel is not simply about quiet contemplation: the hotel offers 44 bedrooms, a 2 AA Rosette restaurant and a small health club and spa. Inspire your delegates with our training and meeting facilities, take over the house for your dream wedding or celebrate a special occasion in one of our private dining rooms.

Would like to thank the team for their hospitality today. The afternoon tea with prosecco was perfect. Waiters and waitresses pleasant. We Stayed for hours and didn't feel like we were being rushed out, only observation would be maybe could of offered more drinks, we would of had more prosecco. Lovely place nice chatty host. Thanks

Another excellent stay. We’ve enjoyed coming to Wood Hall for a number of years now and each visit is always great. One of the best things is they welcome dogs, the team at the hotel have always been so accommodating each time we book, we request a particular room, which is outside in the courtyard, if is ideal for the dog as it has an external door straight out to the grounds, yet the room is to the same super standards of the other rooms in the main hotel, plus it has a great view across the wharfe valley from the window! Breakfast is a great start to the day, all served directly to your table, large choice of continental and cooked options, the tea is loose leaf and the orange juice a premium squeezed juice, the quality is excellent and usually served by Emma, who is an excellent host and I learnt on this visit has been at the hotel for over 5 years, it is so nice to see this level of continuous service, definitely shows people enjoy the place that they work in. Our evening meals, we always took in the drawing room where we could dine with our dog, despite not going in the restaurant the A la carte menu or bar menu was always available to us. On recommendation of David, another long serving team member, we chose to try the cheese boards and what a treat some rally lovely local cheeses, set off with honey from the hotels own bee hives! The hotel is a great base for the local Yorkshire area, we visited Ripon and some of the local villages, such as Sicklinghall. There is a perfect walk from the hotel across the fields to Sicklinghall which if the dog wasn’t 13 years old with a willing mind but not so willing legs we would have walked there to the local pub, the Scott’s Arms. For dog families the hotel literally has dogs walks on the door step to all the local villages, via footpaths or bridleways. We’ve always found the hotel goes out of its way to provide a genuine and authentic personal touch, it might be part of a group collection of other hotels, but you definitely don’t feel like just another customer, everyone genuinely engages in chat with you which makes you want to return again as you feel valued, so much so we have booked to return again for our 3rd Christmas holiday!

This was our second visit and this time we were in Mulberry room which was a lovely room nice and clean with good views but for me the bathroom was very tired and worn and needed a refurbishment. The food was okay but not as good as 3 years ago and the service in the bar is quite slow. Also the spa and pool are looking old and tired.

Very disappointed in my first stay here, for the ridiculously high price tag it claims to stay here I would expect a LOT more! No internet/Wi-Fi Evening dinner- awful The bread that came with the liver pate starter was stale. Meat was over cooked, dry. Vegetables were like mush No gravy, and when I asked for some I waited ten minutes for some. Breakfast again- awful Rubber sausages, over cooked scrambled eggs, the bacon was all fatty, the brown sauce was foul, not HP it was a cheap alternative. Had to sit on a table that had left over food and drinks left on, hadn’t been cleaned, sat for ten minutes before someone finally come over to inform us it was self service. Rude arrogant staff- a guy on reception ( not the dark haired young man but the shorter guy in his late 20s, 30s..) Arrogantly walked across me so I had to stop, no sorry! I’m unsteady on my feet as it is which he will of clearly seen! Complete disregard and rude. Also over heard the same guy later on being unhelpful/difficult to a younger couple that where staying there. Kettle, tea and coffee condiments stored on a shelf in a cupboard in our room which I found rather odd, didn’t have them on a tray you could easily slide out and put on the desk, I had to physically unplug the kettle from the back of the shelf from the wall it was plugged into (inside the cupboard) and get it out, and had to blindly reach in for the condiments to pull them all out to see what was what. Would of been a lot easily just pulling a tray out with it all on! No television remote in our room so couldn’t watch any tv! Someone had obviously been ill on the stair case to the rooms, it was cleaned up straight away but then was left, which left a horrendous smell of sick that lingered all night and I could still smell this morning on my way out. It should of had a carpet cleaner on it straight after it was cleaned up to avoid the pungent smell of sick the guests had to endure! Just disgusting. Accidents happen, but please if your going to clean up, clean up properly!! I do not feel like we’ve had the service we paid for at all, iv had better service/food/staff at massively cheaper establishments. Will never stay here again, or recommend to anyone. It’s the staff that let down the beautiful hotel and grounds wood hall hotel has to offer

My husband and I used to visit this hotel each year, because of its high standard in service and hospitality. This is our first visit back after the pandemic and it’s awful. We were not welcomed at reception as usual more glared at and rushed with no information or etiquette about hotel information. The hotel is run down and dirty, visible finger prints on everything, carpets not hoovered. The lady behind the bar was rude and took our food order like it was a McDonald’s. Then she vanished leaving us with no one to serve additional drinks, my food was burnt. We ate our meal and left, when leaving the staff we’re all gathered at reception having a very loud conversation slumped over the reception desk. Then staff were on their mobiles not even stopping when walking past. I could go on and on. This hotel used to stand out but we shall never come here again, how disappointing standards have slipped so much. Within half an hour I wanted to walk out… save your money and go to a travel lodge it’s cheaper and the service is better!!! Awful

We booked a deluxe double for the night. The room was lovely- very spacious with a separate lounge and bedroom. The view was disappointing as we looked onto the roof of other buildings. We were missing robes but this was quickly sorted. The shower was amazing- the best my husband or I have ever used. We visited the spa and thoroughly enjoyed the pool, steam room and hot tub. We had a dinner reservation at 7 but went down to enjoy a drink earlier. The staff brought menus through so we could choose our dinner in the bar and we were then taken through to the restaurant. The meal was delicious, we couldn’t fault anything. We enjoyed after dinner drinks in the bar and it was very relaxing with a good choice of cocktails, wines and spirits. We ordered breakfast to our room for the morning and this was fantastic- a great choice and delivered all as requested. Overall a great stay, beautiful location and a quiet escape :-) will def visit again

Short staffed, and with inexperienced staff, Woodhall was disappointing and tiring. On 2 occasions, we had to ask the waiter to serve us as he didn’t come over. Another time, we had to ask for the dessert menu three times. And to top it all off, after my grandfather politely said ‘excuse me, could we have the dessert menu’ to the waiter (who, to be fair, was deeply involved in an already 15 minute long conversation with one of the other 3 parties) and after he finally fetched us the menu, he gave a dirty look back and conspired petulantly with his best friends over on the other table. This resulted in a ridiculously aggressive atmosphere, that other couple spoke very loudly, as if we were deaf, saying ‘Oh no, I would never do that, totally inappropriate, unapproptiate, what ever you want to call it’. First of all, get back down of your high horse you arrogant idiots, secondly, we’ve waited 30+ minutes for our stater, another half hour for a main, and is it so bad that we politely call out the waiter for a menu?! What a great wedding anniversary for my parents! In fact, it was so great, my poor mother asked to have a word with someone working there, about the poor service and lack of communication, to which he showed no interest. And my mother used to work un a restaurant with far more that 3 parties, so she knows some stuff. Utterly useless, and quite frankly ridiculous. We paid so much money for rubbish service, mediocre food, and for arrogant snobs to keep themselves nice and self righteous. Lovely stuff Woodhall, take *some* note of any problems next time!

Thank you for taking the time to post a review about your recent visit although I am sorry to note your comments. Wood Hall prides itself on providing attentive and friendly service to all guests and it is unusual for us to receive a review like this. It is especially important that we carefully manage the reservation times offered to our guests to ensure the best levels of service and whilst we do make every effort to accommodate guests arriving later than their confirmed booking time, I am sorry that as the restaurant was already very busy on the evening of your visit, this did have a slight impact on the speed of service your party received. We are always ready to listen to guest feedback and offer assistance in a polite manner; in turn we ask that any comments are provided in a similar way and that we are given the opportunity to respond to them. Therefore should you wish to further discuss your experience please do not hesitate to contact us directly via feedback.woodhall@handpicked.co.uk Kind regards, Chris Monks

We’ve stayed previously so nothing was a surprise. Lovely reception from the team and smiley staff in the breakfast/dining room. A place with bags of character. Room 28 was looking out to the back of the hotel and spoiled by scenes and sounds of aircon units and bits of debris like signage. But the room and bathroom were of good size and the super king bed extremely comfortable. We had asked for a walk in shower which we got but it came with disability aids in the shower and alongside the loo which looked a little grim. Silly little things like chrome caps to screws missing added to the feeling that the room was due for a refurb. Breakfasts were good and dinner was fine but not exceptional.

Stayed just one night thankfully. Great location and decent accommodation but the evening dining and morning breakfast experience was very poor. For example we ordered 4 pre dinner cocktails which arrived individually at 15 minute intervals thereafter. We were being harried to go into the restaurant after just 2 cocktails had arrived. Dinner was a 'fixed' tasting menu with endless waits between courses. We sat down for cocktails at 6.30pm and finally finished with coffee at 11.15pm. Worse still the food was nothing special. Staff were great and did their best, just not enough of them = poor management in my book. This venue fails to deliver on it's offering, AVOID.

Stayed here as a guest at a wedding and what a great place. The location is stunning and the building is so nice it made for fantastic wedding pics. The interior is very special too. Very nice decor furniture etc. the staff are so friendly polite and go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The bedrooms are large and well furnished. We had air con which was appreciated. Large bathroom with full size bath and shower with pretty good power and nice and hot. The wedding was superb and the meal was first class. We had special dietary needs on our table and the staff dealt with this professionally and without fuss. It was also nice to see the bar prices were reasonable , too often prices are too high so we’ll done for that. Breakfast was very good and again the staff were super helpful , dietary needs , specific requests for eggs etc etc. I don’t think I can find a fault with our stay. Really nice place.
