Detailed Reviews
If you are looking for a five-star experience, without the corporate gloss, this is your place. The resort is nestled into a hillside with a beautiful infinity pool facing the beach. Our family of four arrived for a short break from the heat of Bangkok. We were immediately upgraded into a family villa with pool, a tiny oasis of privacy, in a very tranquil and green resort. The two restaurants served a great selection of food that hit every pallet, including that of the younger members of the family for whom Thai spicy food is not quite yet the option they prefer. The beach itself is small, intimate, and you really have a feeling of privacy which is difficult to find another, more crowded spaces on the island. The resort is not part of a chain, and as a result preserves a very boutique type feeling. The staff is exceptionally welcoming and helpful with anything that you may need. While that the price Is perhaps higher than you would expect, for our needs, it was worth every baht.

Wonderful hotel in a beautiful unspoilt location.
First and for most the staff were friendly, efficient and always helpful. Special thanks must go to Best and Bond who anticipated our every need!
Overall the facilities are of high quality. Our room was well designed and comfortable. The balcony gave us lovely views over the stunning waterfall gardens which are beautifully landscaped and maintained. The bathroom facilities are excellent with a large outside bath on the balcony and a large separate shower. We loved the special touches such as the “thought for the day” on the poolside towels, the leaf messages in our room and the Thai amuse bouche delivered to our room in the evenings.
We very much enjoyed the beach and sea and several trips around in nearby bays in the hotel kayaks. We made excellent use of the well designed beach pool and on a couple of afternoons relaxed at the very tranquil Sanctuary pool. We also enjoyed a wonderful Thai Ayurvedic massage at the spa.
The food at both of the restaurants was excellent and always beautifully presented. Breakfast was also very good with plenty of choices available.
With a few minor tweaks and upgrading in a few places Melati Beach resort would be nigh on perfect. The decking and general area around the kayaks is dated and shabby and so much more could be made of the decking and seating area by the beach restaurant. This area would be perfect for a cafe area or a bar seating area for guests who would like a drink while looking at the views across the bay. There is also a delightful sitting area/ bar seating at the Thai restaurant but this is rarely used. If this could be accessed from the gardens as well as through the restaurant I it would be a much more accessible and therefore well used area, particularly for after dinner drinks.
But overall we will leave with many happy memories and feeling relaxed and very well cared for, which is always a delight!
Thanks you Melati Beach staff.

It’s not easy to find 2 bedroom accommodation on the island, so we are extremely happy to have found Melati and loved their 2 bed pool Villa! Extremely spacious rooms and the main bathroom was huge! There was even a separate dressing room area and plenty of storage for luggage. The pool was also very big for a private pool Villa and had bubble jacuzzi jets too. The kids loved jumping from the bedroom through the sliding doors directly into the pool. Was really relaxing to chill under the sala too.
We loved everything about this place. The gorgeous gardens and spaced out accommodation, the stunning pool area and swim up bar and kind staff!
We had some great meals in the restaurant by the beach/ pool and when we spotted the chef making fresh pizzas, he invited the kids to help make them with him, which they loved!
I don’t think you can find a more beautiful pool area and beach cove than Thongson bay, and the Melati hotel. It really is stunning and the sea is extremely clear with white sands.
No breakfast buffet due to covid restrictions, but we were happy to be able to order breakfasts from a large menu. All the bar and restaurant staff and chefs were all so friendly and accommodating, thanks!
We left the hotel feeling extremely relaxed and looking forward to our next visit.

Our family stayed at Melati in Sept 2022. A quick note to point out is that Covid has hit Thailand tourism hard and hotels like Melati are not close to capacity
Location: The hotel is located at the top end of the island alongside Thongson Beach. The location is quite isolated so you need taxi etc to get to any shops etc. Given the location the beach primarily for the hotel guests. There are 2 smaller hotels nearby and a local restaurant on the beach but other than that it is a very quite and seclude beach. The beach sand itself is soft with minor pebbles when you enter the ocean but in the sea it is bliss.
Hotel: The hotel is noticeably tired but it was encouraging to see some upgrades taking place. A good example was the dead potted plant arrangement near the pool being replaced. Of the 2 restaurants 1 was closed with the pool side restaurant the location for all meals. The pool is fantastic with a gorgeous view. Guests choose to suntan on the beach deck chairs or pool deck chairs. There is a poolside bar for those who get thirsty. The hotel has a spa and good gym which we used regularly. There is a small games room near the reception with a pool table and fuse ball table.
Room: We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with pool. The rooms are very well maintained and have all the required amenities. The room is cleaned daily with a sheets turned in the evening.
Staff: Like most of the reviews the staff really tried and the service could not be faulted. English was not great but with a little patience it is not a major issue.
Food: The breakfast is great and caters to everyone. The lunch and dinner menus offer a good mix of western and Asian food. Be aware that a 10% service charge is already added to the food and drinks bill. We also had the Saturday night barbeque which was very enjoyable. Prices are International Tourist hotel prices (do not expect cheap Thai pricing)
Overall: We took our 2 kids and we had a great and relaxing holiday. However for the kids there was not a lot for them to do. My recommendation is that this is a hotel for couples, young and old, who want to get away and stay in a very scenic location.

A very beautiful resort, where service is exceptional. All staff went out of their way to greet and ensured that our stay was first class. We had a double room with balcony and couldnt fault the standard and space. Both restaurants in the resort are fantastic. Pools are beautiful. Breakfast is amazing, great quality, with something for everyone. Room serviced every morning while we were having breakfast. Turn down service and lots of little touches which makes you feel that you are appreciated as a guest. Billing was absolutely accurate and taxi is not inflated in price when booked via hotel. Recommend the trips organised by hotel and dinner in Fisherman's Village. Loved it and no hesitation to recommend. Definitely 5 star at a reasonable price.

I am so glad we chose to stay at Melati! I chose this resort based on reviews and photos and I am so happy I did! I visited from the USA along with my Thai mother and aunt from Bangkok. Happy to say this resort is authentically Thai!
The food was outstanding! Both restaurants at the hotel were incredible. Yay Chef Robert Fielding and his team! I have severe fish and nut allergies and the staff went above and beyond to make sure my food was safe to eat.The themed dinners surpassed our expectations with the food, entertainment, and service.
The room was beautiful- we had a garden pool villa. It did feel slightly worn out / dated but still great. Very very clean! Comfy bed and good AC. They even left us little Thai treats each night in our room. Great value for the price in my opinion.
Great spa treatment, yoga class, and more amenities. Immaculate, lush garden space. This resort is detail-oriented. From daily fruit and tea offerings to saying hello and goodnight. They also did a great job organizing our daily excursions.
Shout out to the amazing staff who we enjoyed speaking to in both Thai and English! Everyone was friendly and genuine. We actually miss them, especially Wat, Pui, Ying, Bron, Best, and Tree (and the girl who sits next to her)! Thank you for making our trip so wonderful! Kap kuhn mak kah!

We payed 2,600 USD for one week in a pool villa in a 5 star deluxe hotel, but the stay was disappointing and not worth the money spent. We received a short staffed and mostly untrained hotel. Service was desasterous. Premises where not up to their capability. Abandoned and rubbled meeting rooms, pools filled with leafs and dirt. While it would be easy to keep these things clean and presentable, hotel management is delusional and excuses the situation with: "We cannot find better staff." and "Prices do compare to the location.". Service is inconsistent, orders mixed up, starters served after one hour waiting. The quality of the restaurant food is however good. Mismanaged, not value for money and when in doubt trying to overcharge the customer. Leaving the feeling of haggling on a bazaar, when prices are fixed in the menus. Overall a strange disappointment.

While we try hard to restore all the services to pre-covid conditions, we are unfortunately at nature’s mercy and the heavy storm during your stay did not help to improve the quality of your experience. The hotel itself is lovely: very nice resort and lovely room. Also nice spa, very nice pool area and lovely restaurant with good food.
However the first night we were shocked as we expected, as one can in a 5-star hotel, 24/7 room service and a filled minibar. To our surprise the room service finished at 20.30 (which we discovered just after 9, when we wanted to order a coffee and some snack) and on top of that the minibar was empty, except for 4 small bottles of water, which in itself is not sufficient for a room with two occupants.
Although the resort itself is very nice and the room really lovely I won’t return here simply because midnight snacking is part of staying in a five star hotel.

Revisiting with my family to Melati after 6 years, it's disappointing to see that the premises had aged so much.
Everything starting from the shuttle bus to the on-site facilities and restaurants to the villas was quite dated and not very well maintained.
The van that picked us up from the airport was old and dirty, and the air-conditioning was not quite working. This bus was also used as the daily shuttle bus for taking guests to the nearest town, we always tried to avoid sitting at the back because it's very hot and stuffy.
Some of the staff were friendly, but they were just not as warm and enthusiastic as the old staff we could remember. Daily housekeeping did not do a very good job at the cleaning and refilling room supplies and waters. We had to ask many times for items to be sent as they were not refilled. Reception staff were not very polite and were always in a rush to hang up on me when I called to ask for missing items. We also had some communication issues with the reception and housekeeping staff.
Buffet breakfast was quite boring, offering almost the same selections every day, not a lot of varieties. Scrambled eggs were rubbery, omelette was bland, and poached eggs were half cooked.
Room service offered the same limited menu that they had 6 years ago. The 3-course dinner was also not very exciting.
The fitness centre needed an update; yoga mats were dirty and obviously not sanitised after use, dumbbells were rusty and some were loosely fitted, machines were old, the rubber flooring was slippery and needed to be replaced to prevent accidents. The whole place just looked sad.
The villas were a bit dated, not as clean and modern as we could remember. The door to the main villa would not lock unless we pushed it firm enough. Fridge was making a loud noise in the second villa. Water was dripping from the cooling system.
We stayed at the Presidential Suites, which turned out to be a pool villa with a separate living room that can be turned into a third bedroom, connected to a smaller garden view villa. We initially thought it would be one big villa, so we were a bit disappointed. The living room was basically unused since it's separated from the actual villa.
Our overall experience was still enjoyable, but will we ever revisit Melati? The answer is probably a solid no unless the premises get a complete makeover.

Response from Grm Melati Resort, Owner at Melati Beach Resort & Spa
Responded Dec 29, 2023
Dear Mr Tan, It was nice meeting you and your lovely family . We are of course sad to read that your experience with us wasn't a satisfactory one. We sincerely apologize for falling short of your expectations during your recent stay. Your experience is important to us and we appreciate your honest insights. I have shared your comments with Simon, our General Manager and we are working on solving pretty much all the issues encountered during your stay. We value each guest's experience and it is our commitment to learn from your feedback and strive for excellence. For instance, many issues with the fitness Centre have been already dealt with. The reception manager has also talked to the receptionists and addressed the issues encountered by you and your family during your stay with us. Our Presidential Suite as you well have described consists in 3 different buildings. Creating a living room separated from the bedroom by the pool deck introduces a unique and innovative design concept that aims to enhance the overall guest experience. The separated living room acts as a natural partition, providing an added layer of privacy between the living and sleeping spaces since most guests spend the daytime chilling in the pool it makes sense to have a living room with its own private bathroom, sofas, flat tv etc... separated from the nighttime space. Once again please accept my most sincere apologies and although at the very end you mentioned that your overall experience was still enjoyable we hope for the opportunity to better serve you in the future. Best wishes to you and your family for this soon to be New Year 2024 Daniel Sobrinos Guest Relations Manager at Melati Resort and Spa

We had room 308. The pool and the garden were shaded by the wall and fence. The fence is tall for privacy. The garden was private.
The pool also had over hanging trees that dropped a few leaves but it was thoroughly cleaned everyday.
I really liked the garden and the pool. You can find a sunny spot most of the day but I also welcomed the shade when I came from the beach or the main pool.
