Lella Baya & Thalasso Hotel boasts a range of amenities that generally delight guests, especially the pool and seating areas, although some have pointed out a lack of drink options and spotty Wi-Fi. The service quality seems to be hit-or-miss, resulting in mixed experiences of hospitality.
While the hotel's atmosphere garners split opinions, with some finding it beautiful and others critical of its antiquated style, its cleanliness is often commended, despite the need for pool and towel upkeep. Room views and cleanliness are praised, yet lighting and dated decor receive criticism, leading to varied opinions on the hotel's overall value.

Detailed Reviews
We spent a month at the hotel in February this year and it is now going to be our second home.
The staff from cleaners, waiters, receeption, bar staff, chefs and entertainment team were amazing, so friendly and helpful throughout. We can't name everyone so will just say a big thankyou to all.
The rooms are huge and cleaned daily, the food is so diverse with many areas of the restaurant serving different specialities, the cakes were divine.
The holiday was so so relaxed and the welcome, well what can we say, we have already decided to return later in the year.

First I will talk about the positive aspects because they are what made us classify with 4 stars. The restaurant and bar team are of impeccable professionalism and kindness! They received us every day with a magnificent smile and incredible availability. I also want to thank the person who made my husband's birthday cake on January 30th as well as the person who made the beautiful decoration of the table! We must not forget the room service because the rooms were very clean and we always found small gestures like the folding of our pajamas as well as decorations with towels on the bed!
Now I explain that you were not given 5 stars because of the very unpleasant harassment, even a little aggressive, from the seller of the hotel's souvenir shop and the location of the hotel because All the sellers in the neighborhood harassed us every time we decided to take a walk. It was impossible to even go to the beach because we were intimidated by the sellers and their threats every time we refused!
Finally I wanted to talk about the hotel's food because I don't understand the negative reviews because the food is very decent for a 4 star hotel.

When you arrive at the hotel you will be amazed. What a great look! The hotel is completely decorated in style and looks neat and clean. You will also regularly see the cleaners passing through the entire hotel. Outside it is a picture of a swimming pool and separate children's pool. There are 2 bars where you can get food and drinks. Plenty of sunbeds with cushions and parasols. In addition, there is a private beach of the hotel if you cross the road with free sunbeds with cushions and parasols. Some cushions need to be replaced, but they still function no problem. The rooms (we had 2 rooms with a sea view) are also very stylish, very spacious, including a spacious balcony with chairs and table. Everything is present in the room from a dressing table to built-in cupboards, separate toilet, bath/shower and sink with large mirror, hairdryer and what we found most important: clean! Yes, here and there a piece of tile is broken, a crack in your sink, damage in the bath or sink that needs to be replaced every time, but it is clean. The cleaning lady cleans every day and yes also under the bed!!
The food is overwhelming, every day there are different dishes and some of them are the same, but if you want you can eat different every day! Including dishes that you can put together yourself. Top! Apparently it is normal in Tunisia to take several dishes with one spoon at a buffet, which took some getting used to, but adjustment is part of it. This was not only the case at Lella but also at the other hotels where we stayed for a 2-day excursion.
Various excursions were organized from the hotel. We opted for quad biking and the 2-day Sahara ride (including jeep tour, visit to the Colloseum, camel ride, etc.). Both were super organized by friendly local people. We were 4 women and we never felt unsafe for a moment, highly recommended!
The staff mainly speaks French in addition to their mother tongue, but also tries to communicate in English or German, if necessary with hands and feet. They are friendly and helpful.
The Tunisian restaurant (the sunweb site says Arabic, but the staff indicated that it was completely different) in the hotel had delicious fresh dishes and a belly dancing act, great fun to experience! There is also entertainment all day and a show every evening for fun and atmosphere.
As mentioned earlier, we also stayed at other hotels that were also rated as 4 stars. However, these other hotels were much less hygienic, neat and spectacular than Lella Baya! Lella baya should definitely be a 4+. The hotel is also very close to shops and the harbor, but also to discos where you can safely walk to as a tourist.
In short, we had a great holiday and everything about the hotel was positive after reading some of the reviews. We really don't understand why people have anything to complain about this hotel, it is simply a great place to spend your holiday!

To start with, the hotel definitely does not offer a service of a 4 star hotel. Hence, in my opinion it should be either a 2 or 3 star hotel. Check in was alright but what came after simply catastrophic. I was given a room that was freezing cold, dirty and had an empty bathroom (Not even towels). I called reception a couple of time to hear the same talk stating that someone will bring everything soon. However, nothing really happened until I walked to the reception and showed them how unhappy I was. The room cleanliness did not get any better as it was rarely cleaned properly during my entire stay. Some staff members especially those working in reception were a bit rude and I heard the same comment from various people staying at the hotel. There are also other negative points to mention but if they start by cleaning their rooms then it would be a great start.
I definitely do not recommend this over rated hotel as it it not worth the money you pay for.

I was unfit to travel on this holiday, asked travel up to cancal my room but as a friends booking was also on this booking I could not do this. I spoke to my insurance company who advised just get a confirmation of no show from the hotel. I spent £20 trying to get this information, I spoke to reception asked for the name of the person I was speaking to who refused to give it to me, they confirmed my booking had not been used but would not email me confirmation of this said they only dealt with agents. Hotel has now closed, they did not send this information to the agent leaving me unable to claim on my insurance. You would think they would have been compassionate knowing I could not travel due to health and resolved this situation for me beating in mind I’ve used this hotel on many occasions, being a frequent visitor and loyalty means nothing to this hotel. Between this hotel, travel up and there agent I’ve been left out of pocket. So my advice steer clear from any of them

I don't advise you to stay in this hotel. We couldn't enjoy swimming because the swimming pool is very small and the sea is far away from the hotel. The services are awful: the servants in the buffet are unkind and brutal, the food is disgusting and the wifi connection is poor. We are very disappointed.

Overall the hotel is in need of updating with staff working their hardest to make the most of what they have.
The communal spaces are pretty well maintained, with the pool needing a few tiles replacing but mostly fine. The rooms are really tired though (dangerous in some cases we had wires hanging out of walls), and need a complete refurnish really.
All that said, the hotel was really cheap, so a lot of the issues we had were to be expected to a certain degree and you very much get what you pay for, which is why it gets two stars instead of one.
The detail....
Staff
Some people have commented on staff not being able to understand English, this isn't the case and we have found most staff we have spoken to have understood an impressive amount of languages.
I would say the staff are trying their best with a hotel that is in desperate need of an update, and maintenance staff unable to keep up with the amount of repairs the place need.
Shout out to hamdi (sorry if I have spelt that wrong) from the restaurant who is amazing, and gofi in the entertainment team!
Rooms
The big piece of feedback for this hotel is it needs the rooms fixtures and fittings completely replacing in reality. For example the bath looks filthy, but imagine it is impossible to clean at this stage in it's life. The shower curtain is broken and dirty the bottom. We had bare wires sticking out the bathroom wall as well where I think a hair dryer used to be. Out of the 4 rooms in our group, no one had a room that didn't have any problems at all, so we decided not to push to move rooms and just make the most of what we had. The beds were old but okay, not great if you had be a bad back/hips so my husband struggled but I slept well.
Food
The food overall is okay and good quality, there is a good choice on offer. Things aren't labelled, so imagine someone with a dietary requirement would probably struggle. But for most people I think they would find something they like. Flies are a problem in the buffet though, some days are worse than others, but we were forever swatting them away, I think it's because horse and carriags park up next to the hotel which means there are a lot around. I wouldn't bother with the a la carte, there is no choice at all in menu, we found the food pretty bland and it seemed like it had been sat around a while. We went down to the buffet afterwards and we found the exact same food downstairs with additional choices.
Beach
The beach across the road is nice, a lot of seaweed and a bit of litter, the water is fine though, cool but not cold, and the water sports are cheap too if you fancy a ride on a banana boat. Sunbeds included and there is a beach bar serving soft drinks included in the all inclusive.
Facilities
The WiFi doesn't work in the rooms that well, disconnects a lot. Enough to get what's apps off. But works much better around the pool, beach and in the lobby though so isn't a deal breaker.
There is a tour company in the hotel, make sure you haggle to get the best deal, the catamaran tour was amazing, would recommend.

Thank you for sharing such an honest and detailed review. We're glad to hear that you appreciated the efforts of our staff and enjoyed the communal areas, despite some of the issues you encountered. We acknowledge the need for updates in the rooms and the maintenance challenges you've highlighted. Your comments on the food, labeling, and cleanliness will be taken into consideration as we work to improve these areas. We appreciate your understanding regarding the value for money, and we're glad you still managed to enjoy some of the amenities like the beach, pool, and activities. Thank you for recommending the catamaran tour, and we'll make sure to pass along your kind words to Hamdi and Gofi. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us improve, and we hope to have the chance to welcome you back in the future with an even better experience.

The only thing that saves the hotel's animation (all 10 animators) thanks to them we have lasted all week, if we had not changed hotels and some waiters, the rest would be disastrous!!!
They barely speak Spanish, if you go down to eat at the last hour, you have to set the table yourself, they never have a spoon, depending on the tip, they serve you in glass or plastic,
The all-inclusive, you order a Coca Cola and they give you a shot in a cardboard cup of coffee,,, the food in the restaurant is the same every day
The room is noisy due to all the air conditioning machinery and at cleaning time they only change towels and make your bed.

Just returned from a lovely holiday from the beautifully Lella Baya. Travelled as a 2 family group with ages ranging from 5 months to 77 years and the hotel catered well for all 8 of us. Visually the hotel is absolutely stunning, photos don't do it justice. We stayed 10 days and were still discovering little details on the last day. Outside is equally as good, plenty of places to sit in the sun by a beautiful pool. The food was very good, lots of choices, well presented and very tasty. The entertainment team work really hard and take time to chat (even if you don't partake of the activities)
However, I'm not able to give 5 stars for the following reasons. Saturday nights they do a 'gala' dinner. This is outside around the pool. Massive queues for everything, difficult to find anywhere to sit ( indoor seating is closed). Upset us as we were settled for the day round the pool, early afternoon, we had to pack up and move so that they could put tables out. There was no pre warning and very little explanation of why we had to move at the time (although it did become obvious after). For all of the faff and effort it really wasn't worth it. My recommendation would be to go out to eat on Saturday evenings!
The snack bar by the pool wasn't open at all, despite being advertised as open from the 1st of May. They did bring out snack type food around 3pm but that's a vast difference to getting a burger or something at lunchtime.
One of the barmen was incredibly ride to one of my sons. We're easy going people but we did call management about it as it was ridiculous. Shame as all of the other staff were outstanding.
All in all, we had an amazing time and would definitely go back to Lella Baya. It's worth paying extra for the sea view rooms, not just for the beautiful view, as it means you're away from potential noise from the lobby bar!

We had pre booked our transfer, we did this through our travel company. We landed about the same time . By pre booking it we didn’t have to worry about getting some cash out of a ATM machine. Because as you know you can’t take money into the country
Hi Nicola. The house spirits, house wines, some cocktails, and local beer were included in the price. You can pay a little extra for named brand alcohol - I think it was around 2-3 dinar - the equivalent of 50p - 75p. I found the local beer quite refreshing, nice and sweet, and not too gassy. The rest of the time, I drank gin and orange, which was OK, to be fair.
The hotel staff were friendly and would go above and beyond when treated respectfully and given a tip - we tipped them once each 10 dinar, which is £2.50.
For ease of conversion, 20 dinar is £10. They write it in the thousands, though, so be careful. 20,000 dnr works out at £5.
You're best buying at fixed price stores as the medina markets try and dupe you big time. Don't be taken in by people purporting to be kitchen staff at the hotel, they will offer to show you around and expect 30 dinar for the pleasure - £7.50, plus they will direct you to shops you're not interested in. Beware.
Avoid paying on card, pay cash, we were stung £112 for a £5 t-shirt. I don't know how they changed the price, but I chatted to the fraud team at my bank, and they returned money.
I hope this helps. Have a good holiday. X
