Just back from staying a week with Eleni and Nikos at their place in the charming little village of Arkasa, on Karpathos. Eleni Studios is such a lovely place. I was in desperate need for a relaxed holiday after a tough winter/spring, and I certainly found peace at Eleni's.

The couple who have founded and run the place for many, many years are the kindest, sweetest people you can imagine. I almost cried when I left. The phrase "A home away from home" really is how this place can be described.

It is a number (around 10-12) bungalows, with a separate bedroom, bathroom and kitchen area/simple sofas. The bed room has a double bed and a desk + a good sized wardrobe. The kitchen have all sorts of pans and utensils, crockery etc. Not an oven though.

You have your own little veranda with 2 sets of table/chairs, where you can sit and watch the pool and the sea (more or less view, depending on which bungalow you're in) and not to forget - the lovely garden with flowers, bushes and trees of all sorts.

Do not expect anything fancy. it is quite basic, but in a charming, very Greek style. The bed is a little bit hard, but still a proper matress, so more confortable than in most Greek budget/mid range hotels I've stayed in.

There is also a number of studios, which has direct sea view. These have only 1 room, with a small kitchen. 1 of them is bigger, it has 2 beds + a bunk bed. And - 4-5 hotel rooms (in the main building) which only have a fridge, on the 2nd floor, also with direct sea view.

There is a very nice sea water pool, reasonably big, where we swimmed every day, and a nice pool area too (also with sea view, of course).

Eleni serves breakfast on her veranda, if you don't choose to have it in your studio/bungalow. She also do light lunches, snacks, coffee and drinks. It was SOOO relaxing to sit and read there in the afternoon and look out over the sea. And in the evening, watch the sunset with a glass of Ouzo or wine/beer.

The Studios are located on the main road of the small village Arkasa. Almost opposite, is the village's pharmacy, which has a great selection of the lovely Greek Organic skincare brand, Apovita and then it is about 3 minutes walk to the biggest supermarket in the village. And, apart from a few other supermarkets, and a well stocked souvernir and gift shop inside the biggest car rental, Sofia's, in the outskirts, that is the ONLY shops.

There is 5-6 tavernas within 5-10 minutes walk. All with slightly different type of Greek food, very rustique but all good. And - extremely nice staff!

And - 15 minutes walk from the hotel is the fishing village Finiki, where you can eat the freshest fish and sea food imaginable.

Will add some separate reviews of the tavernas too. And photos, of course.

I can warmly recommend a stay in Arkasa, at Eleni Studios. We can't wait to come back.

Spent two weeks here last year in June for my husbands 60th Birthday (Pavlos says Yassou Eleni mou). At the time there was only one other room taken and we virtually had the place to ourselves..... had a large room (sleeps 4) at the front overlooking the sea - what amazing sunsets. The pool area was great and I must admit i liked the look of the smaller studios which surrounded the pool as well.
Rooms were kept to a reasonable standard and cleaned daily - bedding towels changed several times a week. As the previous reviewer said - transport is a good idea to get around the island - but as there are only two petrol stations make sure you fill up!! A couple of nice tavernas within easy walking distance can highly recommend a warm welcome and tasty cooked Greek cuisine at Sunray - say hello to Vangelis and Sophia from their friends in Manchester England! Also a few nice tavernas down in Finiki. I have a video of our holiday spent here also including some trips we did to Olympos etc which can be found here... http://youtu.be/CFNRbqMXp3w this will give you an idea of the studios and some of the lovely surrounding area. Contact me if you need any more information

Eleni's studios is in an ideal location and a traditional buidling. It has a swimming pool with sea water and bungalows with view to the sea. It is located in Arkasa which has everything you need close and at the same time quiet life (not touristic one).
The most important however was the "filoxenia" of Ms.Eleni and her whole family.
At the same time the prices were very competitive for the services you get. We were 2 parents and 2 kids and the bungalows was more than enough for us.
If you are looking for a traditional Greek bungalow with very low prices and excellent hospitality you should definitely book there.

Aaaahhhh. Heleni Studios is wonderful! Nice and clean. We had an apartment with seperate bedroom. Shower was strong and warm and fixed to wall 😎. Great for lunch too! The town has nice tavernas within walking distance. Finiki is a 15 minute walk too! Go and you will not be disappointed.

You feel nice in this hotel! The temperature in the rooms is the ideal! Very friendly staff and modern bathroom. You can stay there all day long. The matress could be better but all in all it is a place to visit.

The sea is only 50 meters away. It's a magnificient view from your appartment. The sea breeze is constant so if you leave your window open, you won't need AC. The clashing waves sound better than AC too. :-)
The swimming pool is nice, but be noticed that it contains salt water! Every night the water is pumped out and refreshed in the morning with filtered sea water.
Arkasa is less popular among tourists, so this place is still quiet. There are more parking places than studios, so you can always park your rental.
If you don't want to go out for breakfast or dinner, you can go to Eleni for her home made Greek meals.
The super market is walking distance (about 100 meters). You can rent mopeds or motorcycles at 500 meters distance.
Very close to this are also a few small restaurants with great food for low prices.
The closest sand beach is at about 1 kilometer. You can rent chairs with umbrella for 4 euro per chair per day. This beach is crowded, so you must arrive in the morning to find a vacant umbrella.
If you don't mind to travel a bit further, you can find a rock beach about 1 kilometer further. Be noticed that you'll have to go off-road for that beach.
