We were there for almost a whole week in August and just loved it. We can't talk highly enough of the place. Every aspect: food, comfort, the pool, the warmth and kindness of the hosts; the friendly and gentle pet dogs, the attentive and willing staff; the stunning scenery, the deliciousness and variability of the food (we are vegetarian) and more..... We were taken on a walk around the estate and shown where all the fruit and vegetables grow. It was hot so we stopped in the shade of a fig tree and took the opportunity to fill our faces with the delicious and succulent sweet fruit. Each morning baskets of picked produce appear near the kitchen door so you can see what you will be eating that day. During our stay: tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers. water melon, galia melon, honeydew melon, parslane, aubergine, figs, courgettes, courgette flowers. okra and more. If you love your food this place is remarkable. Maria (the proprietress) in the kitchen does all that's need to turn this natural bounty into a collection of delicious dishes. The music here is also something quite remarkable. Vassilis, the proprietor is an expert in the history of Cretan music, and an accomplished player of numerous traditional instruments. His first choice is the Cretan lute (lauto). We were spoiled on the first night to hear a masterclass in musical fusion as famous Greek/Dutch flamenco guitarist Yorgos Valiris and Vassisllis remarkably brought together the sounds of flamenco with traditional Cretan folk music. They even allowed an amateur part time guitarist like me to join in and busk along as the night wore on. We were there our three teenage boys and although were worried that it might be too quiet for them, we had no problems at all. It is almost impossible not to fall into the wonderful relaxing ambience and adjust to the calm and gentle way of life on the estate surrounded by so much phenomenal natural beauty. Covid hygiene respected with precision by all staff throughout our stay. Really, you should go there if you have the chance. We'll be going back.

Great amenities and beautiful views of the sea, mountains and olive orchards. Amazing traditional local food at the restaurant and unique musical entertainment from the owner. Highly recommended, will definitely be going back to experience the best Crete has to offer.

... with an atmosphere full of positive energy. Lovely accommodation, fabulous owners and staff, delicious food - home-grown or local, amazing pool with fantastic view. I'm still dreaming of it all. Owners, Vassilis and Maria, are wonderful hosts, talented, polyvalent and very human. Taste Maria’s cuisine, listen to the stories that Vassilis transmits through his music. Visit the family bio-garden culture that you taste from every day, and learn about the history of trees. The property is beautifully constructed, inside and out, and super-clean. Food-wise: Delish. No need to go further and chat with Vassilis or Maria if there is a particular Cretan dish you would like to taste.

We stayed here over May half term with our children (6 and 4). We were nervous about booking with two noisy young children, and indeed almost all other guests were adults or teenagers. However we never felt unwelcome, quite the opposite. Our girls loved playing with the dogs Lucky and Sara who were very tolerant of them, and looked forward to their morning hot chocolate (I think our 4 year old ate enough for several weeks). The food... what can I say... Maria’s cooking is wonderful, the best food we had in Crete and up there with the best we’ve had on any holiday. Everything is fresh, homemade, delicious. Everyone is welcoming and charming. The whole place is beautifully done - even more than I expected from the internet pictures. It is in the middle of nowhere (you need a car) with stunning views and only the sounds of nature. The pool was beautiful but a little chilly, plus our 4 year old managed to injure her chin and had to keep it dry, so we mostly spent our days on outings - local beaches (there are a couple within a 20 min drive, plus more only slightly further) caves, pottery making. A slightly quieter and more grown up holiday than we had done with them before but a good one - we all had such a lovely time. Thank you.

We visited as a family of four (kids 16 and 13) and had a wonderful stay at Dalabelos. It is very peaceful with amazing views and provides a nice sanctuary from the busier side of Crete in Rethymno. The pool is lovely and was never busy, ideal for relaxing in the roasting sun among the olive trees. The restaurant is very good, offering home cooked authentic Cretan cuisine and the breakfast was exceptional - wonderful fresh fruit, greek yogurt and eggs etc. The greek salad was the best we had on the island. Vassilis and our waiter Valerio provided excellent service throughout our stay and we were genuinely sad to leave. We stayed for 10 nights but I would suggest Dalabelos is the perfect place for slightly shorter holidays. We intend to visit again away from the height of summer so that we can do more hiking and activities in the surrounding area. It was a truly memorable holiday for us in beautiful Crete - thank you Dalabelos.
