Hotel Hacienda de Abajo is the result of a careful renovation of an ancient XVII century sugar estate. Decorated with unique art objects of the 1st - 20th century, the first "emblematic hotel" on the Canary islands combines traditional elegance and style with modern amenities. Each of our 32 rooms has been individually decorated. Therefore each stay in our hotel will be an unique experience!

We have visited for the second time and would love to be back soon. We really enjoy spending time at the hotel and the food at the restaurant. The service is very good, the heated pool is great at this time of the year and the hotel is just gorgeous with many exotic plants and valuable antiques all arround. It is a hotel with a lot of personality and the location in the village of Tazacorte is excellent , always the best sunny climate in the entire island. Absolutely recommend to stay here.

This beautiful hotel with all its history and art has not only the best measurements and service, but its located on the low populated island full of nature of La Palma. Surrounded by a banana plantation that keeps the place cool, one can enjoy the pool, the spa, or a massage with in the Tropical Garden inside the Hacienda. Every room is different and made for a prince. Plus the restaurant with its famous chef has made wonders in combining the fresh products from the island with its different spices and flavors. If you want to just forget today's troubles for a while as safe as possible, here is a palace that feels like its own planet.

The moment I entered through the main entrance doors of the hotel, I entered a new world. This is not an ordinary 5 star hotel, it goes beyond stars. Surrounded by history, elegance and beauty. Botanical gardens, freshness, diversity, kindness. Every detail has been thought through, making my visit here an experience I will never forget. In all of my travels, never have I experienced such a magical and rich place. And to top it off, the food is absolutely delicious. Gourmet, fresh, tasty, colorful and creative. Art on art. If you have a love for art, history, nature, elegance, cultural experiences and depth, this is the place for you. (Note, if you have children, this is not the place for them.) Worth every penny and more. The staff is very kind and helpful, I will definitely return many more times. Thank you for such an unforgettable experience.

This really is a very special hotel, set amid a small banana plantation on the drier, eastern side of the island, within the town Tazacorte. The atmosphere is that of a former religious house turned into a marvellous hotel/ museum that puts many a National Trust property to shame.. The rooms are spacious and the manicured tropical gardens, thanks to an irrigation system, a jewel. Never before have I wanted to spend my days beside a pool reading a book. This is the perfect place to unwind. 4G on the island is a bit slow, but the hotel internet speed is amazing. Very useful when finding out about the geology of this intrresting volcanic island. We have not been disappointed by a single meal. The hotel staff are charming, and being Spanish, are not native English speakers. This should not be a cause for complaint as a previous reviewer has mentioned. Their English was infinitely better than my Spanish and everything worked fine. Please dont tell anyone else about this place, otherwise it will fill up and we wont be able to return. Never felt so rested in my life. One note about hire cars. The bus service on the island is really good and cheap. The roads are steep and twisted. Unless one wants to explore the more remote spots, the bus service was a joy compared to the UK. The advantage over a car is that one gets a much better view and travelling time, compared to a taxi, wasn't significantly longer. Any motorist would be lucky to achieve an average speed above 30 mph on the roads.

We stayed at this excellent hotel over New Year. We loved everything about it - our room (superior double), our little terrace, the beautiful gardens, pool area, food and most of all the friendly, efficient staff. We liked the choice of eating a la carte in the restaurant or excellent tapas in the more relaxed terrace area. Breakfast was very good. Our stay included the New Year party which was most enjoyable with food, drinks, disco, extremely well organised by the lovely staff. This is a very special hotel with beautiful antiques, interesting architecture, superbly kept gardens. The unspoilt little town is less than 10 minutes walk up the hill, the port area with beach, restaurants and a few shops is about 20 minutes down the hill. If we didn't feel like the walk up from the port the bus runs every hour. We didn't have a car so arranged a private taxi for a day to explore some of this lovely island. Whale watching tours operate from the little port, we enjoyed a sunset trip. If we visit La Palma again this hotel will be our first choice.
