We spent a fortnight at Hotel Elpis in Bali. The rooms were basic but clean, each one has a veranda behind a sliding door. Rubbish was taken daily and the rooms were cleaned twice a week and the bedding/towels were changed then. We were in rooms about as close to the road as you could get and at night it was really really quiet, the only noise problem was from the cicada's. The mornings were another matter, there is a German kids club at the neighbouring hotel and you get very loud renditions of kids songs in German from 10am-11am every other day. If you are up by then its not going to be a problem but personally when I wanted to lie in I didn't think it was ideal.

The official photo's make the pool look small if you ask me, its a good size and really deep. There are plenty of sun loungers and umbrella's around the pool. There is a good pool bar with reasonably priced drinks and food. the whole outside area is really well kept.

If you are thinking about hiring a car you should do so there rather than beforehand. Elpis rents out cars at a very reasonable rate. We were there in high season and paid just over 200 euro for a weeks car hire in a C3. Not bad at all.

The niggly little things that we didn't like were

1) our room didn't have fly screen and for some reason mossies love me so I go bitten quite a bit. Our friends room did have a fly screen so I suppose its the luck of the draw

2) Its self catering but that consists of 2 hobs and a fridge, no toaster or kettle and the hobs take FOREVER to heat up. I suppose on the plus side eating out there is quite cheap...

3) Our room like many in Greece didn't have a wall mounted shower, you had to hold it over your head, our friends one was on the wall, again I guess you take your chances.

The air conditioning was really expensive at 8 euro a night if you wanted it, we didn't. If you wanted to keep your room on for the last day it was also really expensive, we went elsewhere but left our bags in reception because we had a 6am flight and I wanted some sleep!

The resort of Bali deserves a mention. Firstly I have to say Bali is a lovely little resort. Fab for anyone not wanting a 'young and lively' resort. Bali consists of 4 small sheltered beaches, one is white sand and the others are kinda browny. The sea is calm most of the time and there are loads of small fish around if you want to snorkel. If you are going for a lively night-life Bali is not for you. If you are going to unwind or looking for a good base from which to drive to places then it is fantastic. There are loads of Greek tavernas along the beach's, the closest of which is a couple of minutes walk from the hotel. There are also some coctail bars and cofee places. Bali is a hilly little place but a family that was there at the same time as us had a child in a wheelchair and they said they hadn't had any problems getting around. There is always the little train if you want to go to another beach and don't feel like the 10-15 min walk, it costs 2 euro and the times are posted at every stop. We had a great time and would recommend the Bali and the Elpis to anyone looking for a nice relaxing holiday in the sun! The pics are of Bali and not the elpis.

The location of this hotel is set back from the road, not a main Highway, just a normal road leading into the resort. Wonderful pool and pool bar. The rooms are extremely clean and well kept. With air conditioning and safes. Poppi and Dimitris are excellent hosts and always make the effort to talk to the guests, and join us for a drink in the bar after closing the office at night. We as a family have been coming here for 13 years, and visit with friends, family and even on my own. it is safe and peaceful. Dimitris runs a car hire business from the office, where you can get a reasonably priced car, he will advise you on the best places to visit, we still haven't seen it all. The beach is a 2 minute walk away where you will find everything you need.

Just returned from 2 weeks in Bali. Booked 3 rooms at the Elpis in January, but on arrival we were told due to overbooking 1 room was in an overflow room at the apartments next door called Blue Horizon. Supposedly of the same standard as the Elpis, the room was at the back of the complex close to the pool shower, toilets and kids play area. It was a room going under the building so only had a front entrance and was subsequently quite dark and cave like! On the middle Friday we asked if there was any free rooms in the Elpis so we could join my sister and brother for the 2nd week of our holiday, we were grudgingly told a room was available so we packed our things and moved! The room was light, airy and well equipped. Very clean and as we were only 1 room away from my sister, much nicer! Pool area was very good and staff very friendly. Local tavernas, beaches and bars were all very good.

Great value apartments good size good location with friendly and very helpful staff. We had a great time staying here and would not hesitate in going back. We had two sets of friends on Crete at the same time we were at Elpis and both sets of friends visiting us at Elpis would also recommend staying there. Not far to the beach which is a really nice cove. The girls loved the free wifi available in the apartments. Can't rate the friendly and helpful staff enough and the car hire rates were good too. Our apartment had two great size balcony's with sea view and they were cleaned daily. We were lucky and able to keep our apartment for late check out for extra 20 euro was great with 3 teenage girls.

We have just got back from a very enjoyable week at Elpis. While there was a slight mix up with our room, Dimitris (the owner) quickly sorted it out despite its being 1am.

Hotel is very clean and has all the essentials you'd expect from a Greek apartment. Free wifi was a definite bonus. Pool/bar area is really nice and relaxing. The pool has crystal clear water and is cleaned daily.

Location is great - just 2 mins from a small quiet beach and 5 mins to the main beach. We also rented a car from Elpis, which was great value and very easy. We recommend visiting the old town in Rethymnon (25 min drive), as there are some nice restaurants there.

Staff, especially Vilya behind the bar, were very friendly and accommodating throughout.

We would definitely recommend Elpis if you're looking for somewhere good value, relaxing and friendly.

We stayed at Elpis the last two weeks in September, it was very quiet which suited us. Friendly girl which ran the pool bar. Well situated near beach and tavernas. We have been to Bali before but thought the Elpis was good value for money.

My husband and I stayed in the Elpis apartments when we were buying an apartment in Panormo which is 10 minutes from Bali. They are lovely clean apartments and the owners are the perfect Host and Hostess. Nothing is too much trouble for them. If you want a warm welcome go to the Elpis apartments. Demitris and Poppy are now good friends of ours and we see them every time we go to Crete.

We booked 2 weeks at the Amalia apartments but dues to a flight change we needed an additional 2 days and unfortunately the Amalia was full and so we booked the Elpis. It was a lovely weekend away at the end of our holiday. The owners are delightful, unbelievably helpful even phoning to tell us out room was ready. I loved the apartments, they are spacious clean and really peaceful. We had a ground floor room and I would recommend asking for first floor. I would also recommend the Elpis for car hire and they also provide a driver to the airport for guests. We will be back.

This hotel is well situated, near to all shops and beaches. Good prices and spacious rooms with kitchnets so you can cook. Only the beds are not very good (noisy). Very clean and and the balconies are great.

I will recommand this hotel with pleasure, and surely go back there.

Just back from two weeks at the Elpis.
Fairly sound Greek Studio style accommodation, hemmed in on one side by complex next door so most room views are of a wall.
Left me with a general impression of brick and concrete.
Cant fault cleanliness, all well looked after and rooms quite spacious.
We stayed in a one bedroom apartment R101, good views but no cover over verandas so when it rained you were stuck indoors.
Been to Bali several times and tried to locate Elpis on map sites, all show wrong location.
As you pass Lisa Mari left and Supermarket right it is on the next bend and much further out than maps imply
"Supermarket "next door is more of a gift shop, better one turn left &5mins uphill
Two larger supermarkets turn right and about 15/20 mins walk.
Cant quite see all the" excellent " comments
Poppy was pleasant enough Dimiitri only spoke if you did and seemed more wrapped up in the car hire rather than the apartments.
Went with Sunshine/easyjet and at £735 for 2 weeks in 1 Bedroom was good value but that is about all its woth
