Hard to talk about the Ormus, in Bali, without referring to the small coastal town in which it's located. Both have many things in common not least the charm and character which they share in droves. Also, there are many steps which you have negotiate when staying here or walking in the village. The Ormus sits on one of the peaks of the village and is closest to the Evita Bay (probably the best beach in the village). This is a THREE-star hotel with FOUR-star staff and values, especially the full-time receptionist Irini Ziaka, who takes customer care to a new high level. The rooms are varied and range from sea facing to internal garden terraces and/or have the backdrop of the surrounding mountains. We e-mailed before our departure and requested an upper, sea facing, apartment. We not disappointed. The three roomed apartment was stylish, spacious and contemporary in an uncluttered and functional way. With two balconies we overlooked the magnificent Bali Bay. The shower room was a dream, amazing shower with constant hot water and his and hers sinks. The small kitchenette comes complete if you wish to self-cater. However, the meals provided (breakfast and dinner) are both pleasing and varied. Good choices, not repetitious, but not the ranges you would find at a one of the many local restaurants. Meals are served in the dining room although most prefer to eat their meals outdoors around the pool. The pool itself is not overly large but sufficient for a cooling dip if you are not the beach type. It has a small but pleasing bar and exterior lounge area, with a pleasant barman, and prices are no dearer than anywhere in town. The Covid 19 precautions are enforced, especially at meal times with required masks, and food handing gloves and sanitiser throughout the common areas. Of note are the daily clearing staff who work hard to maintain the good standards this apartment/hotel offers it guests. The room bedding and the towels were changed every two days. Our room maid added to our enjoyment of staying here. There is a nominal charge for the A/C and room safe. Combined the cost is 45 euros per week. The highs for us were the amazingly comfortable beds and the east facing bedroom. We started each day with a perfect sunrise. For the nit-pickers there is always something you can find if you look hard enough, like a bit of paint needing touching up! But this location is great VALUE FOR MONEY and is well situated even given the hill! It is a highly recommended location in its star category and provides a wonderful holiday experience.

We honestly thought that the location of the hotel is the best in bali as it is away from the main attractions but close enough to walk to in 5 min, very close to the nicest beach in bali - evita bay. Staff are nice and have a relaxed attitude but are very helpful. Breakfast was very good with quite a good selection of sweet and savoury. The views from the hotel are stunning particularly if you get the room facing the water. Overall we were very satisfied and would recommend it for sure.

On the plus side the pool is good, views from poolside are good. The staff take good care of the gardens, the breakfast staff work really hard. The rooms are effectively cleaned daily. Our arrival set the scene. No one at reception and once found surly guy was sarcastic. The air con which is necessary costs about $5 a day. It would be better to pay extra & have it included. Though it breaks down and the manager said he fixes 6 a day. Does the manager like his job? He enjoys a late night drink with customers and smoking all day. People round the pool smoke. We haven't enjoyed our stay. The place has plusses, hard working cleaners & breakfast staff but grumpy rude manager, paying daily for ac, No must be happier places

Met by quite a rude and sarcastic guy on reception - though the other staff we met later were all very nice. Despite its location by stunning coast, most rooms have no view at all, with tiny windows. Their outside areas open on to the common stairwells, not to the view, so have no privacy. The rooms are small and fairly dark. We had not noticed the smallprint that airconditioning, along with the use of the safe deposit box in the room, cost extra. In July airconditioning is essential here. It is not that expensive (6 euro per day extra), just feels a bit petty. Breakfast is ok, served in a busy cafeteria-type area without airconditioning. It is a crowded and noisy resort full of families. Music blasts everwhere all the time. We wish we had booked elsewhere - probably an inland hill town, as there seems to be little trace now of the traditional fishing village that Bali once was. Sadly, it is now just a very long strip of similar accommodation, and shops selling souvenirs. The beach is mostly concreted over. A sad example of what mass tourism has done to the beautiful places of the world (and yes I know I am part of the problem!) We did find one very nice taverna on the recommendation of a local - family-run, food delicious: Taverna Gallini.
