Detailed Reviews
We’ve been here twice now, and it is absolutely lovely. Would heartily recommend.
The location is ideal - it is a 10-15 minute walk from about 10 restaurants either way along the coast that all serve excellent food. Despite that, it is unsurrounded by other resorts which mean you have peace and quiet all day and night. (The flip side: if you are looking for a party capital, this is not it.) The resort also has step access to a small beach, with private sun loungers - there was always one free since there are so few rooms at the resort. It is only a 5 minute walk to larger beaches with proper sand and crystal clear seas. We survived without a car, staying local, but other guests had rental cars and there was always ample parking.
The rooms are perfectly clean and incredibly spacious. The first time we stayed we had the apartment, which was very spacious. It had air conditioning, a very serviceable kitchenette and a lovely terrace. It was cleaned to a very high standard daily. The bathroom was functional and spacious (which is not a given in Greece!) The second time we had the traditional villa: this had all the same features but the extra space, the fancy sun loungers and the pool were an absolute delight.
The highlight is definitely the breakfast which is included. The breakfast buffet is delicious and well stocked with sweet and savoury continental items. There is also an a la carte menu with excellent choice. It was always fresh, well cooked, and had enough variety we ate there every day.
The staff (from the management, to the service, to the housekeeping) are all incredibly friendly, professional and eager to help. They remember your breakfast order, sort out taxis, and add beautiful touches like rose petals in your room.
If you are after a lovely, relaxing holiday, I cannot recommend Al Mare strongly enough.

Accommodation
We stayed in a traditional villa which was spacious and well finished. The upper floor, where you access the villa, had a large bedroom and large bathroom. There is not a great deal of storage (draws) in the bedroom and not enough hangers, so if you can, I would take some of your own.
Also, the bedroom lacks a chair, which due to the design of the bed (Lindian style) means that it’s rather awkward to sit on the edge of the bed to put your shoes on etc. The mattress itself is super comfy but low to the platform it sits on, so if you are a regular visitor to the toilet during the night then you may find it difficult getting in and out. My wife and I had to shimmy our way to the steps at the end of the bed to step down.
The kitchen was small but adequate and did lack some equipment, (Toaster, tin opener, large glasses) but wasn’t really a problem as we ate out in the evening and had breakfast and occasionally lunch at the Gallouni Bay Café which is part of the complex.
Overall cleanliness was good, but as the daily servicing of the room only consisted of emptying the bins, making the bed and changing the towels, it would be handy if the owners could provide at least a cloth to wipe the surfaces down, and a brush, mop & bucket so you can deal with any spillages etc.
Ants are a bit of a nuisance, so it is imperative that the work surfaces and floors are cleaned regularly. We ended up using a pack of baby wipes.
Pool
The pool was a good size and very relaxing. In August it was just the right temperature to cool you off, unlike the sea which was very warm. There is obviously a lot of limescale in the water, which is evident by the crustacean mark around the waterline of the pool and the steps into the pool, which were also a little green with Algae.
Gallouni Bay Café
Firstly, the young lady who serves you is amazing. Not only does she remember all your preferences, but also just seems to calmly look after everybody without fuss, even when it was busy.
The food is renowned and rightly so. In addition to the buffet offering, you can choose anything (and everything) from the menu. Mix & match, whatever you like, all cooked to order.
Location
The nearest restaurant (and in our opinion the best) is Il Ponte, which is about a 12-minute walk turning right as you exit the car park. It is a bit more of an incline both going and coming back, but doable. If you walk up the hill past Il Ponte, you will reach a small set of shops and a couple of bars / cafes where you can watch football and sport.
The Tavernas to the left of the complex down on Kiotari beach are about 20 minutes, but the walk is slightly easier as it’s mostly flat.
If you didn’t have a car, I would suspect shopping of heavier items such as water / beer etc would be a challenge, although the supermarket Kourtis do deliver.
If you wanted to travel a little further, there is always Mike the Taxi driver who’s number you can obtain from reception.
Overall whilst there are some minor improvements that could be made, the accommodation, staff and location is excellent, especially if you are looking to relax and chill out.

The best place You can ever imagine. Beautiful fully equipped sea view apartment. Clean, cosy tidy. Beautiful, very polite and professional crew. Great acces to the beach just a few meters away!
We have arrived at the Al Mare 2:00AM in the night. George (the owner) welcomed us himself with big smile on his face and two cold beers which we dreamt of after such a long trip from Poland. He is the best host we have ever encountered and we couldn’t think of a better place for our wedding anniversary.
Well maybe except taking next time villa with private pool, which looking at every day is making us extremely wishing to get one ;)
Well definitely next time!

The villas are in the most beautiful spot overlooking the sea. So peaceful and tranquil. Breakfast was too quality, set in the beautiful little attached open air restaurant. Everything you could want from cereal, juices, breads meats and cooked breakfast. But I just want to mention what makes this place extra special is how kind, polite and attentive the staff were. A credit to themselves and Greece.
The villas are just out of this world. Private pool, your own private terrace, upstairs balcony, small but equipped kitchen, tv, comfortable inside and outside chairs. Just perfect. Can’t thank the staff enough for a wonderful honeymoon.

This holiday has been perfect. Beautiful quiet villas each with their own small pool looking out on to the sea. George the manager was so helpful and accommodating. Breakfasts were excellent. All other staff helpful as well. Traditional tavernas within an easy 10 minute walk. The IL Porte in Old Kiotari a family run taverna were so friendly with excellent home cooked greek cuisine.

Wonderful, wonderfully maintained facility with very personal service! Small and manageable, well equipped and well maintained. Daily cleaning and bed and bath linen change and an unbeatably beautiful breakfast spot!

We stayed at Al Mare Villas in May 2014 in a traditional villa with private pool. What makes this place really special is the staff; nothing is too much trouble and they make you really feel as if you have been there for ever from Day 1. Georges, who runs the place, is warm, generous and welcoming. He is also a great cook; try his baked olives and lamb rack off the menu at Ouzo Bay (the resort restaurant). The restaurant has only just opened but has the potential to be one of the best in the area, especially if he keeps making peanut butter baked cheesecake to die for! (Georges was born and raised in the States and trained there in the hotel management business).
This is not to overlook the rest of the staff by any means. Maria deserves a medal for her breakfast service, and what a breakfast. Anything (within reason) that you want. She also works more hours than anyone I have come across in the hotel trade, but she is always the same: cheerful and fun. The cleaners too were attentive and unobtrusive and the rest of the staff were all out of the same outstanding mould. By the time we came to leave, we almost felt like we were leaving family!
The villa we had was excellent with our own pool around which we chilled for 12 days. We do have some small suggestions for improvement. Firstly, the kitchenette could be made more of in terms of equipment and utensils. There is no oven or microwave which might prove useful for a family and a toaster would also be welcome. Certain items were missing from the utensils including a can opener, and we also had one large and one small wine glass, which is a minor issue but easily fixed.
We would also suggest replacing the mattresses on the sunbeds with something thicker as the current ones are a little thin and uncomfortable. The only other comment we have is that the villa had a stunning Samsung Smart TV but very few channels to interest English viewers outside news channels (BBC World, CNN).
Frankly, that is about all we can find to criticise and, to be honest, they aren't earth shattering deficiencies!
In terms of facilities in the area, Carrefour Supermarket is about 15 minutes walk and there are several good tavernas within 10 to 20 minutes walk. Apart from the onsite restaurant, Ouzo Bay, where we had an excellent dinner 3 times, there is Mourella (huge salads - don't order a big one!- and a great stuffed pork chop, as well as good seafood), Stefanos (for charcoal grilled fish and mixed grill), and Il Ponte (have his mother's Moussaka and his veal steak).
As we said at the beginning of the review, this resort is made, like all the best resorts, by the quality and warmth of its people. But our overriding impression other than this was how incredibly peaceful and quiet the resort was; it you just want to chill out, then this is the place for you.
Oh, and Georges, make sure you have the Key Lime Pie on next time we come!

Response from Alexia H, Guest Relations Manager at Al Mare Villas
Responded Jun 15, 2014
Dear Clive, We would first like to thank you for your recent review and comments with all the details about the area and other interests for future guests. We have spoken to Mr. George and he sends his greeting along with a few comments about his Key Lime Pie and that he is awaiting your next holiday to prepare one for you should you decide to skip Cyprus. Concerning your other matters such as mattress and TV, we have upgraded to the newest Smart TV's and you will find them pretty full with all sorts of entertainment and games. Sunbeds will be upgraded also but for the 2015 season, so until then we welcome you back. Once again thank you!

We just returned from a 4-night stay at Al Mare Villas and had the most wonderful time. If we had to break it down we'd say that our stay was fantastic for three main reasons.
(1) First and foremost is George, the property's manager.
We have stayed in many luxurious hotels all over the world but we have yet to receive this type of attentive and gracious service anywhere. George was simply wonderful and went above and beyond to make sure that our needs were accommodated. From leaving us a welcome basket in the fridge stocked with fruits and a bottle of local wine, to purchasing special soy products for our 2-year old who is lactose intolerant and ensuring that whatever was prepared for him for breakfast did not include any dairy. Every request was fulfilled, no matter how small, and always with a smile.
(2) Second is the property.
The property is relatively remote. About an hour's drive from the airport and removed from the mega-resorts on Kiotari Beach. This ensures peace and quiet and freedom from hoards of tourists. If you don't have a car, this is not the place for you. We stayed in a classic villa that had a small private pool (perfect for our son) with a lovely cabana and unobstructed view of the sea. Our villa was spotless and beautifully kept. The spacious upstairs bathroom had windows overlooking the sea and the equipped kitchen came in quite handy as there is no room service.
(3) The decadent breakfast.
Every morning, a scrumptious breakfast is served on a shaded terrace overlooking the sea. Anything you want will be made for you. Wonderful french toast, pancakes, omelets, cheese platters, cured meats, cereals, lovely fruit salads, you name it. It was a lovely way to start our days especially when George came by to greet the guests and help out with suggestions on planning the day's activities.
When we next return to Rhodes, this is unquestionably where we'll stay.

We stayed here, in a villa, in the first week of September 2013.
As mentioned in other reviews, George and his staff are attentive without being intrusive. If you need something, just ask. Do seek his views on where to go, he will give an honest opinion, tell you the best route and where to park.
Villas:
The villas are exactly as the photo's on the web site, no surprises of the photos being ten years old or enhanced ...that view is really what you get.
The villas are serviced daily... always clean...good quality towels changed daily.
The kitchenette is basic (no surprise), some might require more kitchen equipment if preparing food regularly .... we ate out most days.
The shower at first looked a little flimsy, but worked well and the water pressure is very good.
There is plenty of patio furniture, all of good quality and condition.
The splash pool ideal for cooling off.... cleaned everyday.. and privately screened to two sides.. ...and that view does not get boring!..... again as per the website photos.
Security - safe provided.
Technology:
WiFi - I found slow, though fine for emails etc , struggles with media streaming , fine for streaming music via spotify or Amazon Cloud.... and better coverage than many hotels (works from the patio)
TV channels limited, but thats not why we came here anyway.
Phone signal good , 3G (or equiv) can be erratic.
We had two aircon units, both modern and efficient (one upstairs, one down).
Getting there:
We used J&D car rentals, recommended by George ...they meet you at arrivals, take you across the road to the car park and hand over ... easy .... on the way back you park in the same place and hand key over to their rep...again..easy ...
From the airport - Follow the web site instructions exactly, using the cars trip meter... George says most people miss the turning away from Lindos (you turn right to Kiotari ).... this is not very well signposted and doesn't feel like the main junction you would expect... so pay attention when near it...And on the way home it easy to miss the left turn to the airport from the main coast road, before Rhodes Town.
Road signs are in English too .... but typically there are not enough of them...you often don't know where you are, until you are way past a village.
The roads are in better condition than our UK roads, but not well lit outside the main towns, be careful and use main beam at night when you can, as the roads constantly change width and often have deep drainage channels at the side.
We were there ten days and never saw a single police car outside of Rhodes Town ... perhaps thats what explains the locals driving, they do not seem to adhere to any speed limits or no overtaking signs, or even one way roads.... Parking - Ha Ha a comedy in the making ..
It easy to get around (good nerves needed for Rhodes Town tho ).
Do go across country , the country roads are like our UK 'B' roads but with hardly any potholes and some great scenery .... Sadly a lot of acreage was burnt during the July fires, but this gives an almost Martian landscape to some areas.....allow extra time you WILL get lost and need to guess on some turnings, but it adds to the fun ... stop at a small village cafe/bar - they look nothing from the outside, old broken or plastic furniture at times ,you may have to point and use sign language , but there is a warm welcome and often they will have their family/village history photos on the walls
Food:
Breakfast is served nearby ...plenty of variety, just ask for what you need.
We ate out everyday. There are plenty of restaurants within walking distance, or few mins drive.... We tried six of the restaurants nearby and never had a bad meal. Prices are typical tourist level (not cheap/as expected) .... try the 'Greek selection' - all the restaurants seem to do it - served in an earthenware dish as a selection of Greek food.
Drink bottled water (you don't have to, but tap water will upset those with sensitive tums)
Our favourite restaurant in Kiotari was Mourella, more expensive than the others, but a big step up in flavours, presentation and atmosphere (check out the Tripadviosr reviews).
George adds an extra dimension to staying here .... seek his advice ... and ask for anything you need.
