The Besidka hotel Slavonice is my very favourite place and I am happy to return here once a year for many seasons. This place is truly unique. From the story of the building itself, the way how it became a hotel (owned by actors of very famous Czech theatre company) and to the design of the rooms. It is really a hidden gem. Every room is different, dedicated to each of the actors that own this property and as I have tried almost all of them, I can tell - there is no bad choice here. The location is wonderful. Slavonice is a small village with beautiful historical house facades on the main square and there is no rush here. It is close to the Czech - Austria borders and is surrounded by beautiful forests with lakes and the landscape is great for both hikers as well as for cycling. More of that the hotel owns another very special building by a pond in next village Mariz, where the very typical ceramics is traditionally made and during the summer you can sit by the small tables they set out next to the pond and you can paint your own pottery which they will send you directly to your home afterwards. It is truly unique and very relaxing thing to do. During the off season, you can paint the pottery directly in Slavonice in a workshop just next to the hotel. The service is really good, but - as everything in here is really special - do not expect from the stuff very formal attitude but rather friendly and relaxed one. The food is good and breakfasts are wonderful, huge and fun. Overall I do highly recommend this unique place to everyone who wants to rest in a peaceful and special place.

Both the restaurant and the hotel are highly recommended to visit. While the restaurant offers delicious food for very reasonable price, the hotel features very special rooms, not just two of them really the same. :) And that comes together with the lovely location of Slavonice and the surrounding area and closeness of the golf courses Monachus and Haugschlag.

People were lovely and accommodating - food was Czech style - home cooking and massive portions but very tasty although they did offer some pizza and such which was average. All the staff were great esp since we were travelling with our 50kg Bernese :-) Highly recemmended!

I stayed here for two nights with an OAT group during the Jewels of Bohemia tour. There are some serious safety concerns here. I did not see any smoke alarm in my room. Normally, I'm not looking for one, but when the lights went out for the third time during our stay, I began to question whether there was faulty or inadequate wiring. By the second night, I began to carry a small flashlight with me as I didn't want to trip over something in the dark when the lights went out. Oh, and if the lights go out, forget about calling someone. There are no phones in the rooms and really, no front desk to call. There is just a bar where you pick up your room key, but still you can't call them without a phone.

This is not a suitable hotel for older or elderly people, who make up the majority of OAT's clientele. There are dangerous stairs to the rooms, which are few, but spread throughout the property in some of the oddest places. There is a winding spiral iron staircase with just flat iron stakes attached to the bottom of the stairs but no railing to hold onto on the top. One false move on your way up to the third floor bedroom and you could impale yourself on your way down to the concrete floor and rocks at the bottom. A 75 year old man in our group was put in that attic bedroom and while the room itself was nice and cozy, his precarious climb up and down the spiral staircase caused him so much concern that he made the trip as few times as possible.

Other rooms had winding concrete stairs like the kind you climb in old church bell towers, the ones that keep getting narrower as you go up. Another room's entry was away from the hotel and through a deserted gravel parking lot. Once in that room, you couldn't look out into the parking lot, so when you opened your door, anyone or anything could be waiting for you on the other side. It was a real safety issue for the single woman in our party who was assigned to that room which seemed to originally be part of some other outer building. She switched rooms with the tour guide, but in exchange, she got a room with a bathroom that was cavernous in size and painted black with very limited lighting. She had to take a bedroom lamp and put it on the floor in the bathroom so she didn't trip or fall over the two high stairs she needed to climb to use the toilet. The tub was also a hazard having been placed at the bottom of the two toilet stairs. The tub was extremely narrow at the front where the shower was attached. There was no room to turn around under the shower spray, that's if you could climb into the tub which was about three feet high.

Forget about any maid service at this establishment. No one in our group of 18 had their rooms touched by any staff after checking in for two nights. That meant no fresh towels on the second day. I'm okay with making my own bed and even reusing my towel, but when I have to use the towels to clean up floor water due to a poor shower design, I really don't want to use them again on my body.

I couldn't wait to leave this place. Others in my group felt the same. There is no way this would pass for a proper hotel in many parts of Europe. I can't imagine who would be comfortable in this place. Maybe it could be used for a hostel. The rooms are large enough to fit in a few other beds. Some rooms already had one or two fold-out couches. Young people might be a better fit for this hotel. People between 60-80 were not. I think OAT made a huge blunder placing older people at the Besidka. I question the decision making in placing their older tourists here.

My advice would be to avoid this place at all cost. I even considered checking into a different hotel and paying for it myself in addition to what I had paid for the tour which included two nights in this hotel. The Besidka was that bad. One guy on our OAT tour put it all in perspective when he said, "I've been on eleven OAT tours and not only is this the worst hotel I have been in on those tours, it's the worst hotel I have ever stayed in."

The only positive comment I can say about this place is that the food was good. Breakfast for guests was ordered off a menu and it was more than enough to eat. But food alone won't save this place. I can't say this strongly enough. If you value your safety, don't stay at the Besidka Hotel.

Hotel Besídka is a specific location. This is also the best restaurant in town, the project under which they renovated old renaissance house is very distinctive, Slavonice are extremely interesting. We could discuss the degree of cosiness of rooms, argue about selected materials, or a tightening of the individual aspects. But all overlaps genuine friendliness and kindness environment, staff and humor all around.

We were only staying one night but so wished we had booked for longer - it made us smile and we were still smiling days later. It looks at bit "hippy" from the outside but it is actually a very well run hotel with a laid back feel to it. Staff are friendly (particularly the manager), the service is efficient in a relaxed way and the decor quirky. Our room (Haty) was in a new block of three rooms at the back of the hotel- modern, very comfortable and most of all quiet. We ate in the bar/bistro area which was very good but the breakfast the next day was amazing - served and cooked to order with both hot and cold courses. Its a hotel with a sense of humour but very relaxing and well run. Slavonice itself is an artists enclave and the surrounding countryside is beautiful - lots of walks, bike rides and woods.

Besidka hotel is a wonderful and unique experience. We were traveling with a group, and the owner met us and gave an introduction before handing out our room assignments. He and some friends purchased the hotel near the end of the communist era in the Czech Republic and undertook an extensive remodel. The hotel went from dilapidated to truly enjoyable. Today the hotel serves renowned artists, tourists and some students.

Our room was at the top and back of the hotel, giving us a nice view of the town and the Czech countryside. Our room was very large with two queen beds (one in an alcove), couch, extensive storage space and small bathroom with a great shower. The room was located at the top of a spiral staircase-not an issue for us, but be aware that there are only a couple of rooms here suitable for people with mobility issues. The bed was quite comfortable.

The staff at the hotel and attached restaurant were incredibly nice and helpful. Our group wanted to get out and see the sights earlier than their kitchen typically opens, and they were very gracious and opened early for us. We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel each morning with fantastic coffee, and had a wonderful Czech dinner one night with a delicious broccoli soup as a starter. Overall the food was quite enjoyable.

This hotel isn't a "5-star" hotel in the sense of being luxurious, but I give it my highest rating based on comfort, cleanliness, uniqueness and staff.

I slept in the upper room Pan (Mr) Korys
Nice roof view in the quiet part of the house. I liked the bright room with early sun shine - so I didnt sleep too long...and miss the best light for taking pictures around the town.
It is the hotel with a soul - special, unique made and decorated rooms, lots of paintings all around. Plus take a look at the restaurant toilet downstairs .- the heaters are a real piece of art as well as the sink!
There are also buddhist praying flags and mill. I also loved the restaurant. Specialy tea from big cups. And the bar is interesting mixture of pub and culture – spirits in company of head statues of famous Checzs and hand decorated cups (which are probably for sale as well).
Town and the hotel is nice for start or end of the Czech adventure if you are coming from Austria... I would definitly stay there again!

This was a tale of two halves for me.

This is quite a "funky" kind of place, whose recent history appears to be rooted in hippy land. Certainly the room I was in was a bit wacky - part-painted Orange. All the rooms are individual, are clean and comfortable, although the room I stayed in - Mr Koutak (all the rooms are named after their original owners apparently) - seemed to have very little in the way of wardrobe area, or drawers to put clothes away, except for a small hanging rail, despite it being a double plus two singles.
I ate here on one of my two nights in the town. There's a huge selection to choose from - and if the rest of the food was as nice as my own choice, there's almost no need to eat anywhere else. Plus side / down side was that a local band of musicians were playing their own inimitable style of muzak whilst I dined. Not sure if they were practicing or playing !! All part of the experience in my view.
The hotel is just off the main square of the town - a real gem of a place, off the beaten track - and the room was VERY QUIET.
Staff were friendly and helpful and was very impressed by their English, as this may not be the 1st foreign language spoken by them due to the town's proximity to the Austrain border.

But like many Czech hotels, my room had no curtains, and so light streamed in from 5.30am, in the height of summer this would be more like 3.30-4.00am.
The adverse side was breakfast in the morning. Arriving at 8.00am isn't late but it seemed that no-one was around until I prompted the cleaner / chef to call someone who came to the hotel. This happened both mornings. My suggestion would be to have a late breakfast (after 9am) and take your own blackout blinds - and then enjoy.

Other than these last two "gripes", I'd certainly recommend the place to any visitor to this part of Southern Bohemia

Besidka is a Hotel/Restaurant combination in Slavonice, CZ, and the best design/art hotel place I have staid in during any trip through the Czech Republic - a real gem. The rooms are clean and everything is designed in a very individual way - just beautiful. Nothing like a big hotel chain. Slavonice is also a great place to visit - beautiful little city.
