My family stayed at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort for 4 nights in August. Pandemic caused most resort service to be suspended, but this didn’t prevent them from charging us ; $18/night resort fee which seemed like a cash grab, frankly. We booked a nice 1 br suite but as they were constructing a new ballroom, construction noises began at 7 am weekdays. We requested and gladly moved to a corner suite which was much quieter. Rooms were huge, wonderful views and amenities. Now that the Bear Mountain parkway is completed, it is a much easier drive to downtown. Front desk staff were top notch, especially Bella, Sean and Tracy. Asha at the restaurant provided top level service and fine breakfast. All in all, this resort was quite good. They lose points for having no resort amenities at this point and still having the audacity of charging guests a “resort fee,” however.

My husband had to go from mid island to Victoria for work for a few days. After a long few months of being at home we decided to make it a family trip. I called and was helped by a very friendly booking agent who helped me select a room and told me about the changes I needed to know regarding Covid - the pool being closed, restaurant changes, having to pre order breakfast the day before..... We arrived and it is a lovely hotel. The 2 bedroom suite was very nice, it suited our family well. When I requested to have our room serviced (it doesn't take long for a hotel room to become a mess with 4 kids and a dog!) I was surprised and disappointed to hear that housekeepers were not entering rooms to clean. When I expressed this disappointment the desk clerk (Stacey/Tracey?) told me that the info was on their website. When I said I had called to book and was not told, I was given a "well, it is Westin policy" answer. They said linens/garbages/towels would be exchanged outside the room. I am not sure how leaving garbage bins overflowing with food waste, diapers, and rubbish, dirty linens and towels in the hall were safer measures for hotel guests than cleaners going into the rooms. I know I did not appreciate passing others dirty dishes left out of their rooms for 16+ hours. They were kind enough to leave a bottle of bathroom cleaner, all purpose cleaner, a pile of rags, and a vacuum in our room. so I could do my own cleaning. This may seem trivial to some, but as a mother of 4, I was so looking forward to having a little break, but instead I was having to vacuum, change linens, and do all the cleaning myself. A hotel room becomes very 'lived in' with such a large family very quickly. All while paying hundreds of dollars a night for this 2 bedroom suite. I left my 'Break" feeling more worn out than I started, probably because I was so excited to have a bit of a break and definitely felt like I didn't get it. I will add, I also asked why I was paying a pet fee since no one was going in to clean up or do any extra vacuuming during the 5 days we stayed there We were told it was for the extra deep cleaning they were going to do when we leaved. I asked what additional cleaning they would do because we had a dog, that they would not do with the deep cleaning sanitization they claimed they do upon every guest departing due to Covid They could not answer me, but did give me a break and only charge a pet fee for one room, not our two rooms. TO sum up, a pretty hotel, and one front desk staff was super helpful, but the other (stacey or tracey) was very unhelpful and unpleasant. If you are a mother looking for a break of not having ti wipe up every tooth paste spill, and change every soiled linen, then do not book here.

The room and the resort are nice. I’m a golfer, didn’t golf here, but the courses looked very nice. We had a large room which was nice and spacious. The resort used the recreation facilities in a building nearby operated by the town of Langford. There is a sign on the front door or the recreation centre building that the westin resort discontinued their business relationship with the recreation centre in may 2020. Unfortunately, the hotel website and the westin’s website continue to advertise that it offers full recreation facilities including mountain bike rental, pool and hot tub which is not true.

We arrived at Bear Mountain Westin after spending a glorious week at a resort in Tofino where every precaution was taken to keep us safe during the pandemic. Our every need was met, however. Then we arrived at Bear Mountain Westin Resort. We are very sorry we wasted our money. Reception staff were not wearing masks, despite there being no barrier over the desk. The notices in the elevator to limit two people to an elevator disappeared the first day, and were not replaced. Most of the serving and bar staff wore their masks over their chins, but breathed on the food and drink. Despite the lack of concern for safety, the pandemic has been used as an excuse to withdraw services like daily coffee supplies being topped up, concierge service, and even food before 10 am on weekends or 11am during the week. No breakfast. No coffee. We were told we could order a breakfast to pick up, as long as it was ordered by 7:30 pm the night before, but when we went to collect our order, they hadn’t heard of us. If you want a cup of coffee, walk down the street to the market, I was told cheerfully, by a staff member. Nightly prices remain high, however. All we got was a room. The rooms on both sides of the hotel are dark because of the deep balconies, but artificial light isn’t helpful, as the bulbs are energy saving. Don’t plan to read. Movies and music are available on the large screen TVs, for a price. My husband came here for the golf. He was given a cart. With no score pad, pencil, water or towel. Still full price, though. And no starter no acknowledgement of his start or finish. I guess, with a pandemic, you don’t need to be helpful. Today, only one golf course is open, apparently for “maintenance”. In July. It’s really a shame. The hotel has a spectacular view. It could be a success with the right management. One positive note; the young women serving in the lounge were extremely pleasant and efficient. Perhaps they should be the managers.

We stayed here years ago as well my daughter and husband stayed here last summer 2019 During Covid the hotel was quiet but busy or ongoing busy as it’s a golf destination We got a great SENIOR rate and room with one bedroom, full kitchen, living room, balcony and rights to a large common balcony (might be nice to have a common barbecue in this area for everyone to share ) Weather was sunny, clear and warm so we enjoyed the incredible views of Mt Baker (Washington State) in the background as well There are two golf courses there both with outstanding vistas There are luxury homes and condos around this hotel but no real city services although there is a coffee/marketplace to buy food and sundry items Driving from the mountain back down into the community is about 10 minutes away Because of Covid the main dining was closed but there was Pub food with a patio open and another pub - Jacks just a short walk away The hotel shares a community pool and exercise centre but it was still closed The room was well appointed, kitchen had everything needed to cook a great meal with including a full oven The master bedroom was massive and both room led to French doors to the balcony Breakfast was simple and continental in style that is processed the evening before then you pick up at front desk in morning There was a buffet on the weekends Covid precautions were scattered, signage, distance apart and numbers in the pro shop were maintained but masks were on sometimes and not others Bathroom amenities were numerous and lovely and nice to have a makeup mirror as well We even had an electric fireplace !! My only complaint was that the WESTIN (Marriott) needs to replace the bed pillows They are like sleeping in sacks and I would prefer something harder or with more substance as in foam The grounds are lovely all around the hotel except for some thrown bottles and cans I’m guessing by forgetful golfers and need to be picked up Thanks for a chance to have a stay at home get away it’s a lovely site
