Hotel's Favorite
It is close to downtown Victoria, 20 minutes and beautiful place. The staff was so welcoming and so kind. We decided to stay one more night than plan, and they switched things around for us. The place was very clean. Never seen that before! It was very quiet also. The products they have in the bathroom are great. You can even purchase them. That says it all. Very comfortable and cheaper than downtown Victoria. It was worth driving there ❤️

We really enjoyed our stay at Fairways again this year. We love being on the golf course side - so quiet and green! And we really like having a proper kitchen. The cost to use the guest laundry was a bit steep but we definitely appreciated the convenience. Thank you for another memorable stay.

We have stayed here before, but not since the hotel changed hands. We booked to stay in a 1-bedroom king suite which is very spacious and quiet. The bathroom is very large, with a deep soaker tub. There was a nice patio off both the living area and bedroom. We also love that this hotel is both dog and cat friendly.
Some things to note however: we were cold. The electric fireplace did not work, and the room thermostat was hit and miss. The room seemed to heat in the early morning and then shut off for the day. We ended up relying on the oven for heat. We had sheets and a duvet cover on the bed, but no actual duvet. The 'fully equipped' kitchen was a misnomer, as was 'pots, pans and serving dishes'. It was fully equipped as far as appliances, but had the absolute bare minimum in cookware and utensils. No mixing bowl or serving dishes. 1 small pan with lid, 1 medium pan with no lid, and a frying pan, so don't expect to cook pasta even though there was a pasta serving spoon. We would certainly stay here again, however, but would plan our meals differently.

We have stayed at this hotel the last 3 years over the holidays as it is a very quiet/beautiful location. Previously they’ve charged a $25/per stay pet fee but when we checked in we were notified it’s changed to $35/per DAY!
When asked about the change they said they were just trying to stay on par with the Westin across the parking lot. Its good to hear these are the industry standards/polices they feel they need to keep up with :(

Dear jpatr0n, Sorry to see you are disappointed with the pet fee. This was the first increase to the pet fee in 5 years. You however do not mention your room rate was lower than the previous years? If you would like to discuss this further please give me a call. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager

As usual, our stay at the Fairways was very pleasant with spacious rooms with balconies, doors and windows that allow you to enjoy the surrounding fresh air. Importantly, the rooms are clean and include all the necessities. Staff are always friendly and efficient. Our only disappointment during our last visit was the discovery that surrounding trails and walking paths are now restricted. A very unfriendly and money grubbing move on the part of Bear Mountain business managers & owners! I understand the need to ban casual walkers from the golf courses, all golf courses do this. But, the surrounding mountain trails and walking paths??!! Come on people, be nice to visitors!

Dear arlingtonwoods, Thank you for taking the time to submit a review. I'm happy to see you once again enjoyed your time at the Fairways. Yes there have been some changes made at the resort that has caused some frustration to hotel guests. These decisions were made by the resort management, the hotel had nothing to do with these new restrictions. Hopefully as time goes on a better alternative can be found. Looking forward to seeing you on your next visit. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager

Large rooms that are a great size ifyou are sharing with a friend. Spacious bathroom with a big soaker tub and rain head shower. However there were only 2 cups, 1 pack of coffee and 2 creamers in the fridge for my 4 night stay - my friend got 4 packs of coffee and abowl of creamers in her fridge so think its abit hit n miss with what you get. All of the dishes were mis matched and only 2 of everything in a room for 4 people - not what I’d expect for a hotel of this cost range! They do need a dish cloth and towel in the kitchenette and dishes have to be washed in the bathroom sink. The location is great for golfing and Jacks restaurant is reasonable and the food is OK.

We stayed at the Fairways Hotel for 2 nights on a recent weekend trip to the Victoria area. We chose to stay here to be out of the city but also closeby as the hotel is about a 20-30 minute drive to downtown Victoria.
Formerly part of the Westin resort, the Fairways is now operating as a separate hotel which means you get the Westin style room and quality but under a different name. We are not sure if this operates as a hotel and timeshare but it does feel like that.
Since many of the resort amenities we are used to are not available due to COVID, the Fairways Hotel which doesn't charge a resort fee and has limited amenities was exactly what we were looking for. We had a comfortable and clean room with a mini fridge and enough kitchen supplies to make our own breakfasts to enjoy on our quiet balcony with a view of the forest. We actually really enjoyed their toiletries, which reminded us of Aesop knockoffs.
We were also able to access the Goldstream Trail pretty easy and enjoyed that a lot!
If you are planning to stay here, there are few restaurants around but not many so have a plan. We did enjoy the little cafe nearby; great coffee and friendly staff.
As for protocols due to COVID, we appreciate the efforts taken by the staff and management in regards to cleaning, access to hand sanitizer end leaving any items we needed outside of the room (replenish coffee, garbage bags, etc.).
If there is one thing that annoyed us, it is the parking fee; it's not expensive but there is nowhere else to park and no other way to get there but drive. We do get annoyed by resort fees and thus would prefer hotels to include these extra fees in the room rate. Since we booked with Expedia, parking was $10 per night + tax. This is not an issue and more just overall annoyance with all hotels that do this.
A big thank you to Darren for following up and calling when our room was ready as promised (many hotels say they will do this and never do) and to Trevor at the front desk.
We recommend the Fairways Hotel for a weekend getaway to Victoria if you are looking to have access to trails and be able to drive into the city conveniently.

This is not the location if your goal is to visit Victoria which is a long drive away but good for golf course. A time share hotel so odd cross between condo and hotel. No amenities-no restaurant, no pool, no fitness. Paid parking. Staff ok not great. Room itself was lovely…large, clean and comfortable with good view although AC unit on balcony was extremely loud interfering with the peacefulness of sitting out there to enjoy surroundings. I personally would only stay here for a special occasion in the area or for golf and even then likely at Bear Mountain Hotel next door.

Dear TaiyasGran, I'm not understanding your comments at all. This reservation was booked on Expedia where you will not find any mention that we have a pool, fitness club, restaurant etc. I'm not sure why you would book a room knowing this then go on a review site and complain about it?? Stayed Wed. night at reduced rate which was great value for money. Maybe this is not yet golf and tourist season. Maybe not many people know about it yet. Room rate was actually lower than the much inferior hotel we stayed the night before in Nanaimo. The drive up the mountain was not than long, about 10 mins from town actually. A few restaurants within walking distance. The nearby area along the road is still under development . But once you hit the resort area, you are surrounded by forest. Room was large and spotless. Gentleman at check in desk was friendly and helpful. No hassle check in and out. Overnight parking fee of $10 with unlimited in and out was very reasonable. Hope to bring the grandchildren, but then rate would be much higher by summer.

We wanted to stay at the Bear Mountain resort to experience it and I was excited to use the facilities, as was my son. I was disappointed to hear use of the fitness club was not included, even though we paid very good money for our room. They wanted $45 for a day pass to use the gym! Plus no pool for my son. I was hoping their would be more to offer that a room (which was large but could use an update) for the amount they were charging I expected more.

Dear O2086GDcw, Thank you for submitting a review. I'm sorry you were disappointed at the cost of the fitness centre and pool. Please note that the Bear Mountain Activity Centre is a separate business entity to the hotel therefore we have no control over their pricing structure, nor do we advertise any affiliation with this business. I hope that gives you a better understanding of the two operations. Best, Darren Anderson General Manager
