A tree house has always been a special place to go when one needs to get away, to have some free time. Sometimes it is a secret place, where only a few special friends get together and enjoy each other's company. We would like to include you in our secret.
The TreeHouse Backpacker Hotel is a comfy bed and breakfast - youth hostel just 100km from Salzburg and 70km from Linz. Although we've been around since 1997, the TreeHouse is still one of the best kept backpacker secrets . You will find it in a few good travel books, which means it's not overcrowded and still has the personal touch which many of the larger and modern backpacker accommodations have forgotten about.
Located in a traditional, little village called Gruenau im Almtal, in Upper Austria, you will find beautiful countryside, crystal clear lakes surrounded by majestic mountains and an atmosphere that is sure to make Gruenau one of your most memorable destinations. Gruenau is a town that can be enjoyed anytime of year.In spring/summer/fall, the TreeHouse organizes hiking, mountain biking, horse back riding, swimming and many other ways to enjoy the Austrian countryside. Simply relaxing in the cool shade of the trees or enjoying a spectacular sunset from a mountain top, Gruenau can provide something for everyone.
In winter (sometimes into spring), Gruenau hosts one of the most inexpensive ski areas in Austria, the Kasberg. With over 40km of runs, the Kasberg offers skiing and snowboarding for all levels of expertise. The TreeHouse is conveniently located just a 5 minute walk to the chair lift. Keeping the traveler in mind, the TreeHouse also provides ski clothes for those who just couldn't find room for those bulky items in their bags.
So, now there is no excuse. Take a break from those busy, noisy, cities. Relaxation and fun is what every traveler needs and what the TreeHouse provides, all year round.
I stayed at the Three House Hostel last June and it was a great experience! I have been in many hostel and i work in a hostel in Vienna too, but this one is really special, situated in the middle of the forest. I went there by bike but you can reach Grünau by train too. I suggest to rent a bike (you can do it at the hostel) and visit the surrounding area. I have been to Almsee, kleiner and große Öddsee but there are much more things to see! My only regret was that i had only 2 days free and i wish i could stay there longer:)! The owner Gehrard is friendly, really welcoming and a fantastic chef! I recommend to book the dinner there, really delicious! Grazie Mille Gehrard! Lg aus Wien Giovanni
We spent 2 nights here in August and wish we could of stayed longer it was so relaxing to be out of the cities and back in nature. Gerhard was the best host and was so helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and he even had gluten free bread rolls for my girlfriend. The dinners were amazing and only 10€! You can do some hikes or ride a bike to the lake but it’s also great just to hang out and read a book outside by the stream.
We cannot fault this beautiful place, we intended on staying 2 nights but extended our stay due to how accommodating Gerhard and the staff were at the Treehouse. The meals were all 10/10 and the rooms were very clean. Gerhard is very happy to inform you on the local hikes and activities, and the hotel offers bike hire and laundry services. We have absolutely loved our stay here, we hope to return to the Treehouse one day, Thank you all for such a great stay here!
Travellers! I urge you to take a break from the city life and spend a couple of peaceful days in this beautiful town called Grunau. The Treehouse is was the perfect place to relax and unwind in the serenity of nature and Gerhard and his team were incredibly hospitable and friendly. I wish I had stayed longer and will definitely return before I head home. The beds, the showers, the company and Gerhard’s home cooked meals made the Treehouse a home away from home straight away. Make sure you take the bikes out to the beautiful lake Almsee too. 150% recommend. Thank you Gerhard!
This place is spectacular when you need to get away from the city's for a while. Comfy beds, great food, Gerhard is so accommodating and full of info on what to do in the area. 10/10 would highly recommend if you want the real Austrian experience.
