The treehouse is in a beautiful location surrounded by mountains, with its own fresh water river, its perfect for nature lovers, and there is so much to do in the surrounding area. We stayed for 15 days and loved every minute and were very sad to leave. Gerhard , Sebastian, Rilley and Hilda are wonderful friendly people who run a...

We came across the leaflet for the treehouse in dusseldorf when staying in another hostel, and had to book straight away as it looked amazing and relaxing after all the city visits. In arrival to the train station we were picked up and taken to the tree house, introduced to all the staff and settled in our room. The surroundings...

Absolutely wonderful place to stay, mostly because of the hosts - Gerhard and his son Sebastian and Reilly all made us feel so welcome. Home cooked meals, comfortable beds. The hostel is buried in the woods outside of Grunau so it's a great place to escape big cities and get back to nature for a few days. Make sure you...

I stayed here for two nights and it definitely wasn't long enough. Hospitality like this is extremely rare. It's a family run hotel, and staying here you almost feel like you become part of the family. The owner knows all the guests by name and takes real pleasure in making sure every guest has the best possible time while staying...

One of the highlights of our trip so far, we loved our stay here. Gerhard and his family really look after their guests. Breakfast is included and they have dairy-free and gluten free options. Dinner is like a home cooked meal which is very welcome after traveling for a few weeks! You can rent a bike, hike to the waterfall...

I can not recommend this place enough!! I was originally planning to stay for two nights, and ended staying for six! The location is so breathtakingly beautiful and the hostel itself feels like home. The perfect place for relaxing and unwinding one day, then hiking to a waterfall and going horse riding the next. The service was exceptional, Gerhard and...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
A tree house has always been a special place to go when one needs to get away, to have some free time. Sometimes it is a secret place, where only a few special friends get together and enjoy each other's company. We would like to include you in our secret. The TreeHouse Backpacker Hotel is a comfy bed and breakfast - youth hostel just 100km from Salzburg and 70km from Linz. Although we've been around since 1997, the TreeHouse is still one of the best kept backpacker secrets . You will find it in a few good travel books, which means it's not overcrowded and still has the personal touch which many of the larger and modern backpacker accommodations have forgotten about. Located in a traditional, little village called Gruenau im Almtal, in Upper Austria, you will find beautiful countryside, crystal clear lakes surrounded by majestic mountains and an atmosphere that is sure to make Gruenau one of your most memorable destinations. Gruenau is a town that can be enjoyed anytime of year.In spring/summer/fall, the TreeHouse organizes hiking, mountain biking, horse back riding, swimming and many other ways to enjoy the Austrian countryside. Simply relaxing in the cool shade of the trees or enjoying a spectacular sunset from a mountain top, Gruenau can provide something for everyone. In winter (sometimes into spring), Gruenau hosts one of the most inexpensive ski areas in Austria, the Kasberg. With over 40km of runs, the Kasberg offers skiing and snowboarding for all levels of expertise. The TreeHouse is conveniently located just a 5 minute walk to the chair lift. Keeping the traveler in mind, the TreeHouse also provides ski clothes for those who just couldn't find room for those bulky items in their bags. So, now there is no excuse. Take a break from those busy, noisy, cities. Relaxation and fun is what every traveler needs and what the TreeHouse provides, all year round. ... more   less
