Just returned from a brilliant 2 week holiday and loved every minute. The upside - the hotel is beautiful and set in stunning grounds. Room was clean and spacious - bed was huge - and right on the beach. Shower was too low and room a little dated but nothing that really impacted my holiday. Air con was great - little noisy but didn't affect my sleep Food was really nice. Some occasional shortages but there was that much variety that not being able to get onions for my omelette a couple of mornings was no real issue. Staff were amazing. So friendly and welcoming. Special thanks to Yendri who really went out of his way to make us welcome. Diving and snorkeling- really is stunning. Pedro at the diving school took us out a couple of times and was brilliant. Downside - only real issue for me was the drinks. Again, all down to shortages common in Cuba as a whole, but we constantly had to change what we were drinking. Had some interesting combinations!! Tips Take a thermos mug - everyone says it and it's well worth it The morning hike up the hill behind the hotel is literally straight up!! Very steep!! Take a trip to havana in an old car with a guide. Come out of the hotel and turn left to visit the little shop just outside. Standard tourist merchandise but they are so welcoming Take dollars or pounds to tip. We didn't really tip anyone in the first week and it made no difference to how we were treated so don't feel like you have to tip all the time. If you have room, take extra paracetamol, ibuprofen, sanitary products etc to leave behind. Insect repellent and bite cream are a must!! In fact, pack a decent first aid kit just in case. Diamond club - we didn't book it and couldn't really see the value in it to be honest. Top shelf spirits are all well and good but they use the same mixers. They bring drinks to you on beach, but the beach bar is literally right next to you (and if you have your thermos, you can get much more in one go than the tiny plastic cups). Cuba is a poor country and it is well worth doing your research before you go. Yes there are shortages, but the staff deal with these and will work round things. If the idea of not having orange juice for a couple of days and having to drink peach juice instead, or occasionally not being able to get steak and having to settle for pork is your idea of a holiday nightmare then this probably isn't the place for you!! The staff do a fantastic job and I can't praise them and the hotel enough

Yes, I know that its a third world country and the country has issues, it is a poor place etc etc. But , when you book and all inclusive holiday for a large amount of money , you do expect a certain level. This is an honest open review and I am not one to complain. The accommodation itself was nice. A great location on the beach. Rooms were spacious, and reasonably clean. They could do with a facelift though, but were clean and fine. Beds were comfortable also. Sometimes I could not get hot water for a shower though. Daytime activities were ok but not brilliant. Evening entertainment was shocking, the compare was always shouting on the mic, and in the disco room where entertainment was sometimes held was too loud. Opera night was awful and no one watched it. You could not get bottled water anywhere apart from when the cleaner left 2 x 500ml bottles in your room every day, that is not enough ! . You cant get it at the bar or restaurant !! why ? When i asked I was told NO! you have to ask the cleaner, who you have to search and look for and of course, only cleans in the day, this is not acceptable at all. My wife and I caught covid there also, and we are positive cases now. My wife noticed that hand sanitizers were empty.

The worst holiday in Cuba in 30 years, Jibacoa 3times. Beautiful grounds and nature if you don't care about a plugged up sink, urine smell in pillows, tv so grainy and hardly any channels and filthy bedspread. Vomit in the pool and rowdy guests suggests the type of clientele. Service is very poor and staff looks very unwilling to accommodate. We paid for late check out and they tried to get us out of the room on our own time. No regard. Starving dogs and cats are begging for scraps at the restaurants and on the beach freely...very stressful. Advertised buffet is a lie, you are NOT allowed to touch any food. No self serve and when they serve you, make you feel as you are steeling the food. Food was always terrible but it is absolutely horrific now. Don't bother with DIAMOND CLUB, we waited 30 min before we even got a glass of water. Got scammed as soon as we got on the buss to Jibacoa from Varadero. A girl posing as a tour guide told us to exchange our CAD dollars for Cuban pesos got off the bus as soon as she hit all of us tourists on the bus. We got stuck with Cuban pesos that no one accepted except for tips. All everyone wants is USD $ but our tour guide told us otherwise. Scam. At the stores there is nothing to buy, not even a chocolate bar or a pack of cigarettes but the towel guys are peddling US cigarettes on the beach for $30USD $. Shame. We used to love Cuba but that chapter is done. There is no comparison to what Cuba used to be 30, 20 or even 10 years ago. We are very sad about that.

In general we had a fantastic time at this wonderful resort In terms of location it’s absolutely beautiful, with a back drop of jungle filled hills, be warned though there is nothing close nearby so if you want to spend some time in the local area there is nothing around, the grounds immaculate, planted with lots of tropical plants and shrubs including a few mango trees. The beach is very nice, we upgraded to the Diamond Club which had its own section of beach with sporadic waiter service, the sea is very shallow and safe for swimming but I would recommend some water shoes as there are some rocks and small stones and a coral reef not far off shore, it’s great for snorkelling. Food: Everyone should remember this is Cuba which is going through a terrible economic time, saying that the hotels tend to have their own supply chains so you won’t go hungry, overall, the food is perfectly acceptable with a wide range of choices, the ala cart restaurants were OK not brilliant, however with the Diamond Club upgrade you were allowed to use the Italian restaurant for breakfast and lunch which was welcome break from the madness of a hotel buffet One small niggle on the food, they have a system where they serve you, I don’t know if it had anything to do with COVID or economics but they were a bit mean with the portion sizes, you had to ask for more. We had a ocean view room which was right next to the beach, the room was a good size and of similar quality to most over resorts I have stayed in, the air conditioning was good if not a little noisy We were not that impressed with the entertainment offering having been to Cuba before we have seen better, however it was acceptable There are three bars for the evening (the beach bar becomes a restaurant in the evening) the best of which is the piano bar, which if quiet and unassuming (plus it had great air conditioning) one of the major problems is the lack of glasses and the use of disposable plastic cups, at least they should get some reusable cups The staff on the whole are very good and friendly a particular shout out to Sarah (the Wedding and Honeymoon planner) she went above and beyond to make sure we had a great belated honeymoon) I would recommend that people upgrade tot eh Diamond Club option you get good top shelf drinks and a number of other perks Finally, I would recommend this hotel if you want a relaxing break not too far from Havana, it’s not a lively resort

We recently returned from our 18th visit to this great hotel. Since our last visit in 2019 there were some vast improvements all around the resort. The food in the buffet was a massive improvement with a very wide range of different fish and meats cooked to order. We had a lovely OV renovated room with a walk in shower. There are many new staff, all as happy and helpful as the existing staff, there are too many names to mention but a big thank you to all. The Reception Staff are very helpful if you have any questions. Overall a great holiday thank you and see you again soon.

Following a string of disappointing cancelled holidays during the Pandemic, we were happy to land in Cuba which we both have visited previously and love. When we arrived at the hotel, we were pleasantly surprised that it is as nice as Tui depict in their brochure. We stayed in Block 6 and the room was very nice, air con worked perfectly which was very much needed most of the time. The staff are so lovely and friendly, always with a smile and happy to help in any way they can, without, as some may say, expecting a tip! Yes, there are shortages with some things but this is to be expected with the situation in Cuba and in all honesty, it made no difference. The food is great with plenty of choice and my partner's son was in his element when he saw shrimp cooked to order in any amount. The beach is clean and tidy with the exception of the odd plastic cup left by some guests. There is entertainment every night around the pool area from the fabulous dancers and singers and the piano bar offers a sing along with the very talented guitarist an pianist and is enjoyed by all who participate. Even at 3am, the 24 hour bar staff have a smile for you. The staff can arrange a classic car or taxi and are happy to do so and the prices are good. A Pina Colada on the highest bridge is amazing after a trip to Matanzas in a classic car. Overall, the holiday was fabulous

This was our 18th visit to MJ since 2007, and this visit was by far the best yet. Considering the pandemic and difficult times in Cuba at the moment with supplies of everyday necessities the Hotel was excellent. We had a lovely renovated OV room which was great. There are lots of new staff, still as happy and helpful as all of the staff that have been there for many years. A big thank you to all of the staff, too many names to mention. The Tennis Coach Alberto is an excellent patient teacher. The buffet and Gourmet restaurants were all to a great standard. We will hopefully return next year for another great vacation at this perfect hotel.

We stayed in Memories for 2 weeks in May 2022 for a couple’s sun holiday. When selecting the hotel we fell in love with the beautiful location with mountains and beach, secluded and quiet place. When reading previous negative reviews I felt like people were exaggerating. We were not after luxurious stay, went fully aware of the shortages Cuba is experiencing and none of these had affected our vacation. Pros: - Location is amazing. Beautiful surroundings, you can do the hike in the jungle, the sea is just wonderful and not too many other hotels nearby. There’s a reef around the hotel and is wonderful for snorkelling, we spent a lot of time discovering the underwater life and it made the holiday so much more special. - Staff. Special thanks to the staff that was looking after us at breakfast on the terrace. The guys on the grills and everyone serving food in the main buffet were fantastic! They were the most amazing people we’ve met at the hotel. Always friendly and delightful. Another staff member that was a gem is the young lady at the beach bar, there was always a queue for her cocktails. Jesus at the towel station, the cleaning and entertainment teams were lovely. - Food. We loved the food! I know a lot of people complain, but we really enjoyed it. The buffet is much better then the a la carte restaurants. Every lunch and dinner there was a choice of 3 meats, 3 fish and other seafood like prawn, squid and shellfish available. There was also a salad bar. I prefer freshly cooked food rather than a crazy choice of dishes so we were happy. Fruits like papaya, guava, mango, melons. I really liked it. - Block 6. It is quiet, very close to the beach and rooms are renovated. - Mojitos at the beach bar. But be sure to bring a travel mug! Best advice we found in the comments. - Coconuts! The ground keepers would open up coconuts for the guest on the beach and I just loved this! Was a lovely touch! Now for the Cons: - Management has to do a better job with staff training. Some staff especially around lobby were rude and snappy. Even a request like to fill a water battle would be met with attitude. Unless you give a tip, some staff members would not even attempt to smile and be friendly. - Management can do small things to improve, like properly clean the beach. You can see a plastic glass and 10 staff members would go by , and no one would pick it up. - Plastic glasses - such a waste, replace with washable durable plastic glasses. They have a better look, are larger, save the environment and money for the hotel. - Stuff goes missing all the time, including money from the safe. This probably was the biggest disappointment during our holiday. It wasn’t a big sum. The first time o thought I lost the money but when it happened 2 more times… A few people we’ve met there had similar issues, like phone went missing, a hat, etc and when you make a bit of noise about it, the items would reappear. - Some blocks are very outdated. But don’t hesitate to ask reception to change your room, if you want an issue solved just ask for it. Highly recommend block 6! Overall we had a fine holiday, but won’t be back. We’ve met people that were 13 times in this hotel and they said the same. Small improvements would make a huge difference for Memories Jibacao.
