Overall, we had an amazing stay here. The property is stunning in an area of Portugal that is also stunning, surrounded by hills, cork trees, vineyards, and quaint towns. This property has so much potential, and the wine is very good! The main building is kept up very well, and the path around the lake was wonderful. We also went during the harvest festival, which was among the most amazing experiences we've ever had, when traveling. The food and wine were delicious. The activities were fun and went into the late night. The people were kind. Now the negative the L'and View suites are not kept up particularly well. Other room categories may be far better maintained, as is the property and the main building. Bulbs are out, and they need a deep cleaning and a refurbishment. We had to switch rooms during our stay because the A/C unit was not working well, curtains were torn, and the room had some cleanliness issues. The second room was better but also seemed worn. For the price point, we expected greater care toward these details.

We stayed 2 nights at L'And Vineyard this past June and while on paper this looked to be one of the highlight of our trip, this was far from great... The positive, the property and accommodations are generally nice, well appointed and can give you a feeling of luxury. The main building in particular is gorgeous. The reality however is that everything else is pretty much lacking. Service is terrible, everything is poorly maintained, several things are not well thought out like the private pool being disgustingly dirty in our villa. The restaurant at this property was by far the single worst dining experience we had in our entire Portugal trip. It was comically bad, the food was absolutely terrible, the servers had no clue what do do and finally it was so overpriced we could only laugh about it. We initially had reservations for both nights and we cancelled the second night to just have cheese and charcuterie in our room... The property overall seems to be in construction so there was also early construction work near our room. At night, there are no lights so if you are trying to find your way back to your villa from the main building, be prepared for some adventure... So lots of potential here to be honest but it seems to be poorly managed with staff that don't care and management that doesn't get what luxury mean. We will not return.

The hotel has a lot of potential, like the architecture and surroundings, however the generalized lack of empathy and professionalism by the staff ruins it in our opinion. Case in point: on check out, I asked to be invoiced under my name and company. “Mr C” said the invoice could be under my company name but would also need to reference my wife’s name instead of mine, as the booking was made by her. This was of no use for me, so I asked whether there was a way around this issue, as this has happened for us before at other hotels and they were easily able to accommodate the change. The answer was no – the software had recorded everything under my wife’s name. I then joked that ok, but maybe they should consider changing their software, to which he insisted that the software was doing what it was supposed to. So: 1) the staff was unable to put himself in my shoes and understand this was an impactful situation; 2) he was unable to escalate to management to find a solution; 3) not only did he not understand this was a reasonable request (attended to at other hotels), he insisted on making a point that everything was correct (hence I was incorrect); 4) total lack of empathy and professionalism. In the end he should have just said “sorry that we cannot accommodate your needs”. This was just an example. In the restaurant, there was just one person we found friendly – the sommelier, fantastic man. It’s really as if no one cares about their guests. Other notable exceptions: the girl that checked us in and the hotel director, both very friendly. Finishing the list of “cons”, we were a bit surprised there was construction going on near our suite (11) both on Saturday and Sunday. Not what we expected as a tranquil place to relax. To try to finish with a positive note, we liked the architecture and surroundings which, while tired here and there, still retain their charm. The suite was comfortable and the upgrade to a 2 bedroom was a nice touch. As were the gratuities like wine bottle, cookies, flowers, and honey. Breakfast was good, and so was the food at the restaurant. But in the end, none of this matters when your guests leave with bad memories and not wishing to return.

L'and Hotel is very appealing on photos, however our stay was disappointing: - Food in the restaurant is very mediocre but priced at Michelin Star level (in fact the rather disappointing desert I ordered cost EUR 20 (which is same price as a desert at Alma - 2 Michelin star in Lisbon) - It is branded as a vineyard hotel, but it was impossible to taste any of the home produced wines. No wines were available. - The rooms show strong wear & tear: the tabs in the bathroom were leaking, the doors to the toilet and shower did not close anymore as the hinges. - The stuff willingly sent us on a construction site for our morning run - we ended up covered in mud all over. In particular in rain the resort is not to recommend as it gets muddy a lot. On the plus side - the Spa area is nice and the indoor pool warm

We were really looking forward to our one night there but it was a disappointment. When we arrived in late afternoon we were told the only dinner reservation available was at 9:30, too late after a full day of driving. When we went to the bar at 8:30 the restaurant was almost empty. Thankfully, we quickly got a table and the dinner and service were outstanding. Our room was very large but tired. Shower and toilet doors were difficult to open as they got stuck on the floor. The small outdoor tub/pool couldn’t fill up more than an inch. The main outdoor pool is difficult to use because the bottom is very dark and the drop off from the shallow end to the deep end is invisible. Thankfully, another guest warned us. There is no outdoor pool service, only bar service for the indoor pool which makes no sense given no one was using the indoor pool and every chair outdoors was full.

The biggest problem of this hotel is lack of professional staff and very poor service, which is also what makes it anything but a luxury hotel that it tries to be. The architecture and design of the buildings as well as the interior is absolutely stunning. The public spaces and the rooms are beautiful and comfortable. We had a room for four adults with two bedrooms and a large living room area with a big terrace and a fireplace. The restaurant was great and there even the service was good. Breakfast was delicious yet service was quite inconsistent which again implies to staff that were surely trying their best but again, it lacked consistency. However, any other service, cleanliness of the pool, towels, sun loungers and room service were absolutely horrible. It was clear that the staff were doing their parts, each their own specific tasks and nobody oversaw the big picture so it just felt sloppy. It took an hour and a half to get dinner from room service and two hours to get the fireplace lit, among a long list of other things. A note to management - train your staff to meet international hospitality standards and make sure everything runs smoothly instead of relying on a pretty facade. Here you basically pay for the nice architecture and design, don't expect this hotel to meet any international luxury hotel standards. Most mid-range hotels are more professional than this one, unfortunately.

Got food poisoning in their restaurant. Dirty pool, had to ask twice to clean. Holes in their towels. Private pool was not private as garden workers where constantly walking by. Such a great concept completely mismanaged. Terrible experience. Told the Hotel Manager about the food poisoning, I'm still waiting for their call to see if I got better.

L’and Vineyards is an incredible place. It’s perfection. The hotel is so chic. The black tile pool is a dream. The restaurant is delicious. You feel like a member of the family. And the location is unbelievable. Portugal is paradise and if you are not adding L’and to any trip, you’re missing out. We went for a weekend after Lisbon on our way to the Algarve. It’s only a 35 min drive. When you pull up, you’re instantly enchanted by your surroundings - the vineyards, the castle off on the hill, the twisting bougainvillea everywhere. All brought together by the incredible architecture that blends the buildings right into the land - hence the name. Don’t be fooled by some of the negative reviews. It’s not a cookie cutter Ritz Carlton and it’s not trying to be. It’s doesn’t have a kids club or a margarita bar. Thank goodness. If you want chic, natural, heavenly and peaceful with wine that will change your life, it’s a weekend you won’t forget.

An example of how NOT to run a guest friendly hotel in these post pandemic times. We all appreciate how hard the pandemic has been on the hotel industry and how many have had to shut and customers have been forced to rearrange their holidays but this has been the only hotel I have experienced who have refused to be flexible. We actually bought for a significant sum a voucher for a stay at this hotel in a charity auction back in 2020. It could not be used due to the pandemic so hotel extended the voucher to end June 2021 . We booked again, this time to arrive on 28th June 2021 only for my wife to find she had covid when we were doing our pre flight tests. We advised the hotel immediately of this so they had several days notices before we were due to arrive that we needed too postpone again. Despite this, when we have tried to rebook they have just flatly refused to honour the voucher. Several pleas made by us and the charity have had no effect. Flat refusal. I imagine this is a lovely place to stay but we will never know. In the circumstances, would it really have hurt them to honour this voucher? A lesson in how not to behave when you are ion the hospitality industry!!
